This company seems like a self sufficient company at first glance. Like Russians said, there is no ugly person but just less vodka.
I made a contract with them on 02-04-2022 due to the urgency I have. I need a place immediately to move my staff cause my house rental contract was about to expire and the construction at my hose was not finished yet. I picked up Shurgard just by considering the location which was the closest to my house.
Anyway, I made the contract on 02-04-2022 and on the very same day I mentioned verbally that I need this place only for one month and please consider me as a client for one month only. they said to me that a e-mail confirmation to be followed latter the same day so that I can respond to that e-mail two weeks in advance for termination. But they took my e-mail address wrong as jigit.juksel instead of yigit.yuksel.
So please bear in mind that this company is not really expat friendly and even the phone communication line menu is only in Dutch!!!
Shortly, that e-mail never came.
Apart from that, on the day when I move my goods, on 04-04-2022, we were like 2 minutes late to leave the building (they have this strange openning and closing time frame (only from 06:00 am in the morning till 23:00 pm in the evening) and the alarms were ringing everywhere. We couldn't manage to leave the building and trapped inside and my password became null immediately after 23:00. I called the line written as 24hrs service and again the Dutch menu. By coincidently clicking on the menu (but by trying all possible combinations like 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 2-2 and so on about 5-6 possibilities) we couldn't manage to reach anyone at that time for approx 30 minutes hearing the same phrase all the time:
"Al onze medewerkers zijn op dit moment in gesprek. Blijft u aan de lijn, u wordt zo spoedig mogelijk geholpen."
Anyway, after becoming hopeless enough we decided to leave our car there, jump over the wire fence and walk under rain. The next day while expecting an apology for the trauma we have been exposed to I only received an ultimatom to obey the leaving time next time.
Last but not least, I sent them an e-mail on 30-04-2022 stating that I will be leaving all my staff on 01-05-2022 and did exactly as I promised on the very same day, they asked me to pay extra like 120 EUR which includes the insurance money for the staff inside while there is nothing remaining :)
I warned them that there are also faulty, to have my details wrong and not notify me as promised, they said this is their system and I am the only one in default.
Cherry on top for this conversation, they were reaching me by phone all the time and trying to convince me why I am wrong.
I offered them to remove the insurance cost, and split the rental amount 50%-50% just to be fair and all they said after numerous discussions and correspondence they can only delete part of the insurance money like a real compromise from them. :)
Anyway, on 02-05-2022, I told them that I am gonna pay the rental charge for 15 days without the insurance money but I also mention them that I will write this review in order to protect and prepare future clients what they might expect as a service from them. Since yesteday, I sent them two reminders and in total 5 emails but never succeeded to receive a response from them. They never put it in writing but expect their clients to do it... Poor employees working there are just entitled to ask for money but they are eligible or authorized to resolve disputes. System makes them just a chain in the line and I am afraid nothing more...
PS: The lady, whom I made the contract at the Rotterdam Alexander office asked me to write a review about the service I took and I am keeping my word as I promised her to write at the end of the rental period. I was kind a suspicious that it was coming... Keep in mind that she does not remember the words she is giving so better to have a witness with you or take a video as long as the GDPR rules allowing. May be better to make everything in writing.
Important points to deal with Shurgard:
1- They don't care who you are as long as you are paying. No client commitment but just income and profit oriented.
2- Don't make any verbal commitments, make it in writing or follow above instructions inline with GDPR rules.
3- Don't stay more than a month, cause the second month rent is 220 times more expensive. (they charge 1EUR for the first month)
4- Bring a lock with you cause they are selling a 2 EUR lock for 35 EUR.
5- Don't buy anything from their shop which is excessively expensive.
6- Don't stay inside after 23:00pm cause then you really need to face up to as min. the Stockholm syndrome or the being the prisoner.
7- Better to find companies who are still customer oriented and value the customer satisfaction more than making unearned gain.
