We Paid Hundreds of Thousands, Got 14,000 SEK Back
We decided to move abroad and therefore rented a storage unit at Shurgard Täby to store our furniture, clothes, and home interiors. We followed their instructions to the letter.
When we visited the unit this summer, we were met with a disaster: rats had run loose among our belongings. They had chewed through leather armchairs, bed legs, duvets, carpets, clothes, and even the children’s beds. Our Tempur bed/mattress and large parts of the interior were completely ruined by droppings and urine. The stench was unbearable. In short, practically everything was destroyed.
We had to spend an entire day clearing it out ourselves—sweeping up rat droppings, hauling loads of clothes and belongings to the dump, and moving the few items that could be saved into a new unit. The staff on-site were helpful and offered us a new unit at a lower price, but the damage was already done.
The insurance issue was the next shock. We were insured through Shurgard for up to SEK 40,000. After depreciation, our claim value was estimated at around SEK 35,000. The insurance company’s final decision: SEK 14,000 in compensation.
At the same time, we have been paying around SEK 70,000 per year in rent - roughly SEK 280,000 in total - only to be told in the end that our belongings were, in their assessment, worth SEK 14,000.
My advice: If you care about your belongings, dislike rat urine and droppings, and don’t want to be disappointed - do NOT store them at Shurgard Täby.

The storage units end wall has a gap at…
The storage units end wall has a gap at the bottom from where you can see outside light. I think because of this inside walls were very dusty.
