Scammers.
I made a rental last July at Split airport, very bad experience, they added some expenses that they had not told me about, on the contract there were extras but they reassured me by telling me that in reality I did not have to pay them and now I find myself having lost on my account 400 euros, a real scam, I trusted thinking it was a good agency, now I'm asking for the chargeback from my bank.
0/5 Rented a car noticed damage and…
0/5 Rented a car noticed damage and pointed said damage at pick up and took photos, was charged for same damage after drop off, this is a scam company who also wont respond to emails in a timely manner or at all, also gave me a car on 1/4 tank. Stay away bunch of SCAMMERS and FRAUDSTERS!
Sometimes the “safest” agencies are not necessarily the best
If I could have given 0/5, I would have done so. We ended up paying double the price we had originally expected for a car booked online. It’s written in small lines in the conditions that debit cards are penalised by a higher amount whereas you can easily hire the car without any problem on the internet.
When we picked the car at the airport, the advisor at the desk wasn’t clear at all in his explanations, and if you are not ultra attentive about the slightest line or any question, Sixt will charge you additional fees that you never asked for
Scammers do not use sixt
Do not use this company they scam you by making you pay more or they will not give you the car you already paid for!
Make up silly rules to rip you off and make you pay more. I went with sixt who were more expensive than the other car rental companies available at Dubrovnik airport thinking I would get good customer service, this wasn’t the case. They are the worst car rental firm I have used to date. Paid £600+ in the end for one weeks car rental as they wouldn’t accept the fully comp insurance I had already purchased (£100) and charged me another £277 insurance on top of the £300 car hire price. Very rude man was not prepared to discuss or explain, it was either pay up or don’t get the car “he didn’t care”. We therefore had no choice.
The queues were huge, they were waisting everyone’s time adding on extra charges. I suspect they probably work on commission so upsell insurance and upsell border crossing etc which they give you no choice over as mentioned, you pay up or they will not give you the car you already paid for.
Added extras to contract without consent
Picked up the car and the person at the front desk went through all the optional add ons that I declined when booking and for some reason added them to my contract without my consent. It wasn’t until I dropped the car off that I was told I owed a few hundred more euro and it would automatically be taken from my deposit. They played dumb when I addressed this, it’s clear they’ve done this many many times. This is place is a scam. Beware.
Sixt Croatia rental scam
Booked rental car was not available and agrred pickup time. Subsequent aggressive and misleading upselling resulted in paying double agreed price to get a car. Communication with customer service shows that this is normal practice. I have used Sixt in other countries and this so far is unique to Sixt Croatia. Avoid.
Scammers
Scammers. They present additional fees for islands or other countries at the airport and then they ask you to pay an amount that is not written anywhere. No documentation, no rules, no contracts. Middle age service.
STAY AWAY
BE CAREFUL! They try to scam you and sell you incurrence that you already have. He told us that we need to pay full price if the car was stolen without the incurrence. That was not true, because the car already had third party incurrence. They try to take advantage of you knowing you just got out from the plane being stressed and tired. They talk fast so you don’t have time to think and ask questions. STAY AWAY
Scam Scam Scam!!
Scam Scam Scam!!!
Fraudulent company Avoid at all cost!! They trick you into signing the Tablet thinking it’s just to sign you are happy with the car but it’s an amended invoice with added Insurance cover! I pre paid €400 including all my extras then when I returned they had added €399 extras that I signed for on the tablet/I-pad before collecting the vehicle. They didn’t discuss any extra cost had told me to sign a tablet that was zoomed into on the signing part. If I had zoomed out I would see they added €399 to my invoice! Once it’s signed it’s too late.
I’m in the process of speaking with the European courts and Fraud team. This site for Sixt should be shut down and held accountable by the law! It’s clearly not a mistake looking at all reviews
When questioning they said it’s signed for too late. Look at all the reviews!
It’s a scam.
“Unjust €32 Fee Despite Delay Notification and Premium Insurance”
I am extremely disappointed with Sixt. For my booking (No. 9519537176), my flight was delayed and I only managed to arrive at the station at 22:02 — two minutes after your closing time. Although I immediately notified you of the delay via the Sixt app, I was still hit with a flat €32 charge.
When I complained, I received nothing but a standard reply pointing to the T&Cs and reiterating that I was unfortunately late. There was no individual review or gesture of goodwill.
On top of that, I even purchased an additional insurance on-site for €131—surely one would expect some leniency when you proactively inform and pay extra. This approach is anything but customer-friendly, and I expect far more service from a “premium” provider.
In contrast, the staff member at the counter was very friendly and helpful.
Staff was helpful on arrival
Staff was helpful on arrival, I was concerned returning the car as I didn’t take out the extra insurance, we went over the car and they were happy that it was fine, all car hire companies will try to sell extra insurance, the customer service member mentioned the insurance but did not try to force like I have had with other rental companies, overall a good rental
Fast efficient pick up processed by Ivan
I picked a hire car up on Sunday night and was greeted by Ivan at the door. He quickly processed all of my details and was very polite and helpful.
I wanted to leave this review for him, as it was a pleasure being served by him.

Avoid and use another company.
Rude and aggressive miss- selling of their additional insurance on top of what we had already paid.
Under reporting of damage to car.
Didn’t honour the size of car we had requested.
Car was dirty inside and out.
Staff are extremely rude - especially the 2 ladies on the office who were awful.
Avoid at all costs .
Misled, Overcharged, and Abandoned by Sixt
I am appalled by my recent experience with Sixt in Croatia. Upon arrival at Dubrovnik Airport on 22 June 2025, I was told that my card – which had already been accepted at the time of booking – was now not valid unless I paid an extra €322.95 for a so-called “premium” package. I was given just 25 minutes to decide or forfeit my deposit. This felt like extortion, especially in a foreign country with no clear alternative.
I signed under pressure and duress, simply to avoid losing my money and being stranded. When I returned the car to Pula Airport a week later, the staff there were surprised by what had happened and said it didn't reflect Sixt policy. They advised me to escalate it with customer service.
Since then, I’ve been repeatedly assured that a resolution is coming – but nothing has happened. I now genuinely believe Sixt, or at least this franchise operating under their name, has stolen my deposit and ripped me off with extras I didn’t want or need.
What’s worse is Sixt’s complete lack of help in dealing with the issue. They are allowing this Croatian franchise to operate under their name while treating customers like this. It’s dishonest and disgusting.
Rental Agreement: 9519096110
Extra charge forced on me: €322.95
Avoid Sixt Croatia – and frankly, reconsider Sixt altogether if this is how they back their franchises.
Don't use Sixt for renting a car in…
Don't use Sixt for renting a car in Croatia. They will scam you with extra coverage and a gas deal.
During my recent holiday in Croatia, I rented a vehicle through Rentalcars.com and selected Sixt as the provider. I specifically requested an SUV to accommodate my mother’s (76 years old) mobility needs, as higher boarding is essential for her comfort.
However, upon arrival, I was provided with a Skoda sedan instead, I reported it, but no further action has been taken.
As in previous 30 years visiting my family in Croatia, I always opted for additional insurance when booking through Rentalcars.com. At the Sixt pick-up counter, the agent mentioned that my additional coverage was beneficial, as it would reduce the deposit from €1,400 to €700.
I knew I had to pay a 1400 euro deposit with the deal I made, so I was surprised and inquired further, after all I had arranged everything through Rentalcars.com, including the additional coverage.
After repeated questioning, the deposit was 700 euros because of my extra insurance — which I agreed was reasonable.
Unfortunately, upon returning the vehicle, I noticed an unexpected insurance fee had been added for extra coverage. This was never clearly explained to me at the time of pick-up.
We had to pay the amount afterwards (?), which would surely have been noticed with a normal upfront payment.
I attempted to clarify the issue at the Sixt return counter, but no staff were present despite the counter being open for customers.
After searching for assistance, I found the staff member seated approximately 15 meters behind the office sitting with a group of people on a bench outside.
When I approached and explained my concern, she called a colleague to inquire about the matter. However, during the call, she abruptly ended the conversation and, to my surprise, accused me of taking photographs — when I was infact simply checking my Rentalcars invoice on my phone.
Please note that the staff member was sitting on a bench in a lower position, while I was standing searching for my invoice when I suddenly accused of taking photographs. (Yes, I can imagine the staff member is suspicious about that, since you are not present at your workplace, but please be relexed)
She insisted I show her the content of my iPhone (wtf?) which I declined as I found the request inappropriate. At that point, I chose to end the conversation and left.
The original booking was € 323,00, I ended up with a total amount of € 550,00 for 1 week. So be aware!
Warning about Sixt Croatia (Airport…
Warning about Sixt Croatia (Zadar Airport Location)
I had a disappointing experience with Sixt in Croatia. Despite having already purchased full insurance coverage during my booking in Germany, the staff at the airport insisted I buy an additional, "mandatory" insurance on-site. They refused to release the car unless I paid for it. so I urge others to be cautious when renting from Sixt at Croatian airport.
Easy car hire
We hired a car from the Dubrovnik city office for the day. It was easy to pick up the car. I did feel pressured to buy the additional cover to remove the potential excess charge, which worked out as an extra 12euros for the day. But we did agree, and there were no issues reported on the car when we returned it.
We chose sixt as they allowed us to drop the car off after hours, rather than us having to hire a car for 2 days, for a 1 day trip to Montenegro, which even with the extra border control charges worked out cheaper than going to another location and hiring a car for 2 days.
Fraudulent company actively scamming people
Most Google reviews on this location are fake, and most likely bought online to make this location appear better. Filter on the words "insurance" and "fraud", and you will see the real reviews. This place was actively set up to scam tourists. We booked through Booking, and got the full insurance so we wouldn't have any trouble to pay extra. We paid a total of 180 euros for everything.
Once we arrived we went to the counter and noticed that for every person that rented, the process took around 15/20 minutes to finish. After noticing some talks the people working there had with the people, we noticed a pattern of them telling that the full coverage insurance they bought is actually useless, and you need to buy their extra insurance (which for us would have costed a minimum of 245 extra, which is 1.5x as much as what we already paid). On top of that they wanted to freeze 1200 euros on my creditcard as a 'guarantee'.
A complicated story from him came up where he said if we didnt take it, we have to pay for everything in case something happens because they are not the owners of the cars, but they 'lease' the cars from another company, so any repairs to the cars would have to be arranged by ourselves. He they proceed to tell us that garages do not use invoices here, so then we need to come back to Croatia for it. I said I needed to call Booking to ask what they had to say about it, since we already paid plenty for the car rental + insurance, so we already felt like he wanted to scam us. I called Booking, and they were aware of nothing, and mentioned what they were doing is illegal. I went back to the man behind the counter, and he already knew I was on to their scam. He acted aggressive when I told him the person from Booking needed to talk to him, as what he did is not legal. The man from Sixt screamed at me (in front of other customers) that I needed to go away and that he needed to help other customers, even though I was still at the front of the line. Highly unprofessional, it was like I was talking to a little spoiled kid that didn't get what they wanted (which was: more of my money). He shortly talked to the man from Booking, and even screamd at the man from Booking also, trying to explain why I need to take an 'extra' insurance. He denied helping me further, and the person from Booking was baffled. They told me they will cut connections with this Sixt location, as they do not want to be connected to a fraudulent company.
This location of Sixt is actively frauding, and forcing people to take a fake insurance. I can't understand how someone can do this work and live with themselves. Do yourself a favor and pay a bit more to rent a car at a proper and safe location.
Misleading Debit Card Policy
Misleading Debit Card Policy – Forced to Pay Extra €300
I rented a car from Sixt Dubrovnik via Discover Cars and was shocked to learn that my debit card wasn't accepted, despite using it with Sixt in other countries like Greece and Romania with no problem.
At the counter, I was told I had to pay €300 for extra insurance to rent the car without a credit card. This wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the booking info. I felt cornered and misled — either pay or lose the car.
I later saw many others experienced the same trap. Sixt Croatia seems to exploit unclear terms to upsell insurance.
Very disappointing and unprofessional. Won’t rent from them again.
don't rent from them my friend work…
don't rent from them my friend work there and say that they are scamming people like charging more and stealing credit card information of other people
