We had a 50% surcharge compared to what we reserved online. They didn’t give us any options to choose from; they simply applied it. We picked up our car at Dubrovnik airport. They were mocking us... See more

NEVER USE THIS COMPANY
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They will do anything to try and rip you off. Firstly they tried to make me me pay for a couple of tiny scratches on the ROOF (which could not be seen on pickup due to being covered with dust). And now in the follow-up correspondence they have added pictures of a totally different car with more sever damage. Unbelievable!! AVOID.
Ladies and gents
Ladies and gents! If you don't want to be robbed, never use SIXT.
NEVER!!! In september in Zagreb they fleeced me for 100euro per day (I took reno captur. Not jaguar). NEVER use this company.Believe me, there are a lot of others rent a car com. where work more decent and honest people.
Was fooled by SIXT at Split AirPort
Rented a car a couple of months ago. Realised afterwards that 25% VTA was added on top of the amount they told me they would charge. First and last time I rent there

Be very cautious if you are served by Mr Drenski @ Zagreb Hotel Panorama branch. He lied to me that using the Neum Corridor would require a green card and as a result I ended up buying a so called Standard Package that he told me had included the green card apart from a zero excess CDW. According to the customer service, I didn’t purchase the green card as the foreign use option was given to me free of charge in the Standard Package so my complaint was invalid. Sham on Sixt, never hire from them.
Poor service and awful transparency
Very slow service and a very chaotic experience.
The transparency of the fees and expenses is very poor and when complaining, your case is forwarded to 5 different departments within the Sixt Group, who again forward the case to someone else or in our case blaim a 3. party.
Not one star because the actual car was better than expected.
Spend the extra money and rent from a more reliable and honest company.
AVOID.
AVOID.
They will try to charge you big money for preexisting barely visible scratches that any other rental company would not.
Never again.
Another one star review for sixt
Just like many of the other sixt clients that left a bad review for this company I have been debited hidden charges at the end of my rental.
The funny thing is that I had found the service quite good and I was willing to use them again.
Then I received my credit card statement where I have been debited extra for taking the car on a ferry and for roadside assistance and here I am writing a one star review for them.
Apparently the terms of the rental mention some extra charges for some of the territory outside of mainland Croatia but they were never highlighted or even mentioned at pick up.
I have only been asked if I was planning to do any of the islands with the car but never been asked when or how many days so, sixt decided that a full week of charges would have been fair.
The roadside assistance charge was not mentioned again and this is the first time in all my years of renting cars that I have been charged separately for this service.
At the moment I have raised this matter with my credit card company in order to recover these money.
In terms of money it isn't as much as other sixt customers unfortunately experienced but I still do not like being scammed.
I also have raised the issue with Expedia as I booked this rental through them. They are aware of all the complaints against sixt (especially sixt Croatia) and they are probably evaluating if it is good business continuing the partnership.
Goodbye sixt. Here is another of your customers gone.
as with others who've had a bad…
as with others who've had a bad experience with SIXT at Zagreb Airport, here's another one. AVOID AVOID AVOID
I was charged 50% more than the price agreed when I booked the rental. They used an excuse of 'pre-paid fuel' and that I signed a contract. However, there was never an explanation at booking, at pickup time at the airport nor on return. In fact SIXT lied about the fuel situation in person on pickup stating that it was cheaper for them to refuel the car on return than for me to do so before return.
It is a tourist scam, which Sixt HQ must address. Never again.
SIXT CROATIA REVIEW - THE WORST
We had an extremely bad experience with Sixt Croatia. Hidden costs, lies about costs at the counter, no desire for customer service, etc etc. Note: to pass through Bosnia-Herzegovina via the Neum corridor between Dubrovnik and Split should be free (and does NOT cost EUR100 as we were told at the pick-up desk, neither EUR45 as we were informed by emails when querying this misinformation at the counter).
Save yourself a lot of problems and rather use ANY OTHER rental company but Sixt.
If I could give 0 stars I would... Multiple unnecessary additional charges
If I could give 0 stars I would...
I had prepaid for rental directly through the Sixt website for a total of €75.65 to be picked up at Zadar airport. As usual, we were greeted by a large queue and a long wait to collect our car.
When running through the paperwork we were asked if we were going to be taking the car to Dubrovnik as if so then we would need to pass through the Neum corridor in Bosnia, this was mentioned as a compulsory charge and cost an additional €80.80. Having looked online this is in fact NOT COMPULSORY when travelling down to Dubrovnik. Even if the foreign use fee was to be charged then this should have cost €9 per day or a maximum of €54. However their website clearly states this shouldn't be charged.
Also we were charged a premium location fee when arriving at the desk which was supposedly already included in our original payment of €75.65, however this was still added.
There were other additional charges which were not warranted resulting in the cost of the car rental totalling to €234.15, more than 3 times the initial cost suggested!
I will be avoiding Sixt like the plague in the future and would advise you to do the same, at the very least, be ready to fight your corner at the desk and not walk away like we did as we didn't want to cause hassle with such a big queue of people behind us waiting to no doubt receive the same treatment as we did.
Entirely unacceptable, I've emailed Sixt customer service and received one response which was along the lines of "you signed it so you agreed" which was simply a result of the circumstance of not wanting to ruin the start of people's holidays queuing behind us.
Sixt - no way!!!
I am very unhappy with the Sixt service in Croatia. I booked and paid for a Sixt car with a company called rentalcars.com - the price having included fully comprehensive insurance. I was then given a voucher which I had to give to the Sixt staff when I arrived to collect the car. This showed complete details of the booking.
The Sixt staff does not pay any attention to rentalcars.com voucher. She absolutely does not care what is written there. The sixt manager intentionally enters Sixt insurance into the lease.Sixt's goal is for the customer to pay as much money as possible for unnecessary services. They do not ask about the need for certain services, but simply include them in the bill. For Sixt, this is the standard of work. To make matters worse, I am yet to have my Sixt insurance payment refunded.
I see from other reviews that my problem is far from unique - an overwhelming number of people appear to have suffered a similarly bad experience at the hands of Sixt. So beware when booking a car with them online. Frankly, I now wouldn't touch the company with a barge pole.
In fact, everything about the entire Split experience was a disaster. I was told to turn up at a particular time to collect the car, which I duly did. I then had to wait for 50 minutes with my 6-year-old daughter before I was served. Indeed the tiny office was so busy, cramped, noisy and hot that we ended up waiting outside in a temperature of 36 degrees. There was then a very long walk in the heat of the day to collect the car.
A depressing and upsetting start to my family holiday. I had never used Sixt before and I will certainly not be using them again.
Excellent experience
I had read very mixed reviews of this company and was very nervous but our experience was absolutely excellent! We hired our car at Dubrovnik Airport and the representative we dealt with was very customer-focused and helpful. We even got an upgrade. I think the rep's name was Miho (but that may not be correct). There was certainly no hard sell on additonal insurance as others have experienced and the whole hire process was extremely quick and efficient. He even recommended some restaurants which were on our way to our destination. When we returned the car, it was checked promptly and then Antonio quickly and efficiently completed the final paperwork. Would definitely hire from this company again!
Avoid renting a car with Sixt
I hired a car in Zadar, Croatia on 12th September. After I returned the car, I waited for the Sixt person to finish his checks and send me a final confirmation e-mail that there were no new damages(wanted to avoid this common scam). I was sure that I am safe from the rental car invisible scratch scam. However, I was surprised when I returned back home and found an additional charge of 160 euros. Turns out, they charged me for insurance package which I did not request or need. You can be as careful as you want, but they will still find a way to screw you. Better not hire from Sixt if you want to avoid the hassle. Now, all I remember of my holiday from Croatia is being screwed over by a nasty company with no morals. I already cancelled a future booking I had with Sixt. Better safe than sorry.
This rental company is awful.
This rental company is awful.
Please avoid at all costs, we booked a cheap fiat online and paid for insurance. When we arrived we were offered an upgrade but said no because we couldnt afford it. They didn't have a fiat available so they gave us a 'free' upgrade, made us pay a 9000 kuna deposit and forced us to pay 400 euro for insurance before giving us the keys. We were assured we would be reimbursed for the insurance, deposit and car we had already paid for online. We were not reimbursed for anything. Original online bill of $350 turned into $1400.
No compensation, no guilt.
Stay away from these people, they are scum.
Avoid this company complete fraudsters
Car hire booked on our behalf by our holiday advisor, via Jetset holidays, originally via Fizzer, two days before departure Jetset changed this to Sixt We had booked the additional insurance cover via Jetset.
On arrival at Dubrovnik airport offered upgrade, declined, then we were told we had to take out their CDW insurance, we showed the sales rep out contract and that we had the appropriate insurance. Like a robot all he kept saying was it wasn't insurance it was the brokers profit margin, we had to take theirs at 284 euros. No breakdown of costs. Argued for 20 mins but then second sales rep ploughed in saying any damage was a minimum of 400 euros. We informed our holiday advisor, had to take insurance as they wouldn't take no for an answer or give us key for the car.
No real handover as rep said no problem no checks on return you're fully covered.
Car duly returned 11 days later, no damage, on arrival car checked very thoroughly !! then told to go to office. 3 couples in front all arguing about this insurance, no manager came even though one guy asked for him. All ripped off like us.
When we came to hand back key they had taken a holding deposit on CC not the additional insurance cost, so why do this.
Despite more protests had to pay 284 Euros !! We were hounded and fraudulently sold this with no options.
Complained via holiday advisor to Jetset, who were as most holiday companies seem to be oblivious to customer service saying I'd made this up and I'd taken this additional insurance out. Completely useless. How are Sixt getting away with this?
Do not rent from this company!!
Gave me an scrached car which cost us 500€ + to our vacations. Scrach was actualy 50€ fix. Also was double charged for an rental period - via mobile app and from deposit. Don't ever rent from them!
DO NOT BOOK car hire through sixt
DO NOT BOOK car hire through sixt. Intimidating, high-pressure sales on pick up forced us into additional agreement that we didn't need or want. Which came with hefty additional costs of course. Misled as to what we were paying for on pick up and return-no card receipt issued until after event on specific request. On collection we joined 4 other customers querying the additional costs charged- all in hundreds. Months later no satisfaction through customer services. Sixt should be investigated by agencies who govern this business if you look at reviews continually mentioning their sales practices.
Horrific company to deal with DO NOT RENT
Horrific company to deal with, I booked a basic model and they didn’t have this available and girl in the Split office said I would get a FREE upgrade as it was there fault. A month later on refund of additionals they charged me for the upgrade that I didn’t want or ask for . Going back and forth with there customer service about it and they called me a liar and they would not issue refund. Before I ordered I read reviews and said I would still give them a chance never again do not take a chance they are not cheap lots of hidden costs and poor attitude to deal with. I hope they close down . Horrific staff and company.
Not worth even one star.
Beware of this company in Croatia. Picked car up (Dacia Duster) at Pula Airport in torrential rain - vehicle not checked by myself or hire car attendant owing to weather conditions. (Big mistake by me but saved me from drowning). Upon returning car a 'forensic' check of car by attendant revealed a small scuff mark to the underside of the front plastic bumper. There had been a previous scuff mark recorded on the vehicle notes when I picked it up.
I had no knowledge of mark I was alleged to have made but because I hadn't checked car when picking up could not prove I was not responsible. Didn't think this was a big deal until I was told I would be charged Euros 314.15 for the scuff 'as per the brochure'. The minor scuff to the plastic could be rubbed out with a cloth and polish for a very minor cost.
What was very upsetting was the fact that I was being charged Euros 315.15 for a bumper that had already been recorded as being damaged before I picked the car up. If the previous hirer had also been charged that amount 'by the brochure' then Sixt were making a lot of money out of 'scuffs'.
I contacted customer services on numerous occasions to query this practice and argue my position but they refused to waver or reduce the charge. This has left a very bad taste in my mouth as I feel the Company acted in a completely unethical way and had 'scammed me'.
I have used Sixt vehicles on numerous occasions since 2000 in other countries and had always been pleased with the service they provided.
Sixt Croatia are obviously a 'law to themselves' in relation to fair practice and proportionate charging. As a consequence I cancelled three other pre booked rentals with Sixt (in Portugal) and I will not be using their company in the future nor will I ever return to Croatia. There are many more countries in the world where I can spend my money. Thankfully there are also numerous other Rental Companies that I will be able to use.
DO NOT USE this franchise company.

Claiming I damaged car bodywork.
Virtually every body panel had some damage on pick up - it was impossible to tell if the extensive list provided to me had everything noted. Wish I had taken photos or even refused car at pick up as it was in a very poor condition.
I let slip at start of rental that I had third party insurance cover for excesses. Leaves a suspicious feeling....
I took photos after they said they were charging to have a record of just how bad the car was in general. Waiting customer services to contact me as I said I refused to give authorisation to charge for damage. I expect they will just charge on the pre-auth regardless.
Going to fight this one all the way as it would be wrong to claim this on my insurance. The reason why premiums are increasing!
My advice...if you hire from these take detailed photos of car. Or better still, go elsewhere. Never had this experience with competitors.
Note... all positive reviews (on Facebook and other sites) I have read are Croatian. All bad experiences visitors to country. Really suspicious don't you think?
