I have used Sixt every time I travel to Lithuania and always goes smoothly
Last night we were to collect the car at 11pm and the Ryanair flight was delayed so I got to the car hire at 12.30am
I had called them earlier to explain and they said no problem
When picking up the car I had to pay an out of hours €60, I am not a happy customer
I've always left good reviews

Unjustified €150 Cleaning Fee for Minor Winter-Related Marks

I have been a loyal Sixt customer for years, but my recent experience with Sixt Lithuania has been deeply disappointing. After returning my rental car in what I considered normal condition for winter driving—minor water and salt marks on the seats—I was shocked to receive a €150 cleaning fee. These marks are typical during snowy conditions and should not warrant such an excessive charge.

To make matters worse, the photos provided as evidence lacked timestamps and location data, making it impossible to verify when and where they were taken. This raises serious questions about the validity of the claim.

Upon researching, I discovered that other customers have faced similar issues with Sixt Lithuania, particularly at Vilnius Airport. This suggests a pattern of imposing unwarranted fees for standard wear and tear associated with local driving conditions.

I have escalated this matter to the State Consumer Rights Protection Authority (VVTAT) and am awaiting their assistance. In the meantime, I urge potential customers to exercise caution when renting from Sixt Lithuania. Ensure you meticulously document the vehicle’s condition upon pick-up and return to protect yourself from possible unjust charges.

Do Not Rent from Sixt, particularly not from Lietuva!

I had extreme displeasure of experiencing Sixt's services and malpractice of fictional damage fee at the Vilnius hotel Radisson Blu pick up site (Konstitucijos pr. 18 Vilnius, 09308 Lithuania)
On October 23, 2024, I rented a VOLVO car at the SIXT office at the above address for the rental period from the time of collection until 11:30 p.m. on the same day. When picking up the vehicle, the employee (blond girl with lean ass) of the SIXT company did not give me the rental contract to look at and possibly read, but I signed it electronically in 3 places. After that, she showed me where the car was in the underground garage and gave me the keys and nothing more. She did not inspect the car with me to warn me about possible existing damages and to verify the state of the car's damage together. After I picked up the car and started driving, only then did the rental agreement arrive by email. I drove the car in the direction of Klaipeda on the A1 highway, where there was no heavy traffic. The line of motion was the highway to the ferry port of Klaipeda, then along the peninsula to the town of Nida. After visiting the viewpoint above the town of Nida and having lunch in the town itself, we headed back to the town of Klaipeda, where we parked the car in a one-way street in the center (Danes g). After sightseeing in Klaipeda within an hour, we went back to Vilnius and left the car in the garage from which we picked it up. During the rental, the car was parked in Nida in front of a restaurant and an amber museum, then at the viewpoint above Nida and in the aforementioned street in Klaipeda. In all these parking spaces, the car was properly parked and was away from other cars or some kind of pavement constructions. So, during my rental period, the vehicle was not damaged in any way. When returning the vehicle, there was no person from SIXT company to look at the vehicle together with me and notice any possible new damages that occurred during my rental period.
The next day, October 24, 2024, when we were getting ready to leave the Radisson Blu Lithuania hotel, I received an email from the company SIXT informing me that during my rental period, damage was done to the vehicle in the form of a scratch on the front bumper at the level of the passenger seat, and near the front right wheel. Furthermore, already on the same day, they made an assessment of the damage, i.e. the cost of repairs in the amount of EUR 639.35, and they ask me to pay EUR 450 in accordance with the additional insurance that I took out. When I came to SIXT office and asked blond girl with lean ass to see the so-called damage, she categorically refused it and forwarded me to email communication only.
I responsibly claim that I did not cause the damage I am accused of because, as I have already described above, there was no possibility during my rental period for the car to be damaged due to the fact that the car was not close to any other vehicle or any obstacles on the roads or any third party.
So, this is more than an obvious attempt at extortion, and as far as I am informed, this is a common practice of rental houses in Lithuania. That this is so evident from the fact that they already had a very detailed cost list of possible repairs ready on October 24, 2024, which is of course impossible, because in order to compile such a cost list, the car must be taken to an appraiser's house and inspected. Furthermore, as SIXT itself admits, the car in question already had several damages in the area of the bumper, so it is not clear how this bill could repair the so-called the damage that they claim we caused them in relation to the previous recorded damage to the vehicle. I also emphasize once again that we did not see the so-called damage on the vehicle, nor did we inspect the vehicle together with a SIXT employee, as is the usual procedure everywhere in the world, and the so-called damage that is attributed to me may not exist at all.

Do Not Rent from Sixt!

Do Not Rent from Sixt!

I had the extreme displeasure of experiencing Sixt's services and malpractice of exorbitant cleaning fees and charges at the Vilnius Airport drop-off.

I was charged €150 for dirty seats! I could barely notice the "dirt" from the pictures they provided and there were what appeared old watermark stains in the fabric from a previous user. In what world does it cost €150 to vacuum a back seat?!

Keep in mind, I used this vehicle to travel from Riga to Vilnius and the only thing the backseat saw was a duffle bag. No passengers, no outdoors hiking equipment, or other dirty expeditionary experiences.

Also keep in mind that there was no agent or worker at the garage before hours to make my case. (There was also no visible 24/7 key drop-off at VNO, but that's another issue.) They took full advantage of their claims without my representation.

Truly exorbitant for a policy that indicates that they will charge extra if the vehicle is returned "EXCESSIVELY DIRTY". If my few specks of dirt are "excessive", then buyer beware: make sure you schedule a full interior/exterior detail for their car and be at stand-to for the Sixt agent to debrief them on the car's services and cleanliness before you drop it off! Budget your time and money wisely!

Do not rent from Sixt. If you do, take pictures and plan your drop-off around THEIR working hours. Don't let them scam you.

extreme dissatisfaction

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the recent experience I had with Sixt in Lithuania.

I returned the rental car without any issues, and to my surprise, three-fourths of a day later, I received an invoice for cleaning fees, totaling an exorbitant €120, supposedly for a small amount of sand on the back seat. I immediately contacted Sixt to request a detailed breakdown of the charges, but unfortunately, the customer service representative was unable to provide me with such information. Furthermore, my subsequent inquiries were met with silence, as Sixt failed to respond to my questions and concerns.

Given the lack of transparency regarding the charges, I chose not to pay the invoice immediately, as I was awaiting a satisfactory explanation from Sixt. However, after ten days, I received a second reminder email, in which the invoice had been arbitrarily increased by an additional €40 labeled as 'reminder costs.' This sudden increase only added to my frustration and confusion.

It is both absurd and unjust that Sixt did not bring up any cleaning concerns during the return process but waited for three-fourths of a day before issuing an invoice. This deliberate delay creates a situation where customers are unable to address or resolve issues promptly, especially when they have already left the country. As a consumer, this left me feeling utterly powerless and taken advantage of.

I strongly advise against renting from Sixt due to this deceptive billing practice, lack of transparency, and unresponsiveness from the customer service team. Sending invoices without providing any substantiation is not only unprofessional but also amounts to consumer exploitation. Additionally, the inability to escalate the matter to a manager for resolution further exacerbates the issue.

Mistakes done on purpose

Received car with less then half tank of fuel after was assured tank is full and have to return it full, contacted the and was TWICE assured that i can return car empty tank, i wont be charged and that is complimentary for me to dont refill the tank, and apologies of course. I left 10 liters in tank as a courtesy of problem being solved with complimentary resolution. When i dropped off car, and received receipt i was fully charger for refuelling around 171€ After i was assured twice that i wont be. And as i pay from my Bristish pounds card i pay currency exchange fees for these. I email about it, got an apology and value was fixed, and i guarantee you the same way SIXT guarantee you things, these are not a mistakes, they do it on purpose (leave car not refilled and charging fir refilling when say u dont have to because if some other problem) for people that are to busy to notice. Sixt is great car service, but a scam when it comes to payment, they will try to rob you from start to end

not trustworthy

I Booked a car for 12 days. I would cross borders to 4 countries that includes finland and sweden. On the website says the fee for zone 2 (that includes finland and sweden would be 100€.) I had to send an email to the manager to get authorisation to travel to these countries.
I got the permission but I would have to pay 181€ instead of 100€ as described on the page. How can I trust in a company like that? I complained why is the price doesnt match, the manager told me: because its busy and its up to the branch to set the price. What I’ve done? Found another company that allow me to travel to those countries and I found it! Much much cheaper!!! I do not recommend this company at all!!!

Ridiculous and not trustworthy. Why they charge extra? That does not make sence.

Please do not rent from Sixt in Vilnius

I have encountered many scammers throughout the world. Some in places that could be considered a "failed state". I have come to accept them as part and parcel of travelling in such countries. But I would never have imagined that the worst experience of scamming would be at the Sixt car rental office in Vilnius Airport.

I was going to pick up the rental car at Vilnius Airport at the appointed time. When presenting the documents at the counter, the rental agent pointed out that I did not have the correct identification with me (I presented Lithuanian Residence Permit). Passport or ID card was missing. This was not the issue. I would accept that unlike 99% of all other car rental companies, Sixt for some reason did not accept Residence Permits as valid ID. But time was an issue and I wanted a car ASAP.

I asked the agent whether it´s possible to cancel the booking for free so that I can rent from another company. The agent replied that I need to contact Rentalcars.com (the vendor I used for booking the car).
I replied that I will call them and see whether it´s possible. During the call to Rentalcars.com (which was made at the Sixt rental agent office), the rental agent at Sixt canceled the car rental without informing or confirming with me. I was not aware of this while on the phone.

After the call, I informed the agent that it´s not possible to cancel the car rental without paying a fee. Therefore, I told the agent, I would take a taxi home and collect my passport and return to complete the pickup.
The agent acknowledge my statement but did not comment.

I returned within 20 minutes (and 15 eur for taxi), and while presenting the passport to the car rental agent he told me he already canceled the car rental. He told me that I had told him to cancel the car rental.

Now, it is understandable that the rental agent might have misunderstood or confused the situation, but he did not double check, inform or confirm or even raise the question with me prior to canceling the booking. I asked him to reverse the cancelation and he told me with a big smile that its not possible.

The agent refused to acknowledge any wrongdoings and behaved very rude and disrespectful, blaming us for the situation and smiling all the time while talking. You could tell he was enjoying the situation. We lost the car and 70 euro (+15 for taxi back and forth). Easy money made for him.

We argued for some time but to no avail, the guy clearly had some system in place to take every chance that arise to scam whoever is unlucky to rent from this company.

Now, the car rental will reply and say that "they are really sorry to hear about this misunderstanding" and that the terms and conditions states something about something that is not relevant to the situation. The car rental agent is a scam, and the endless bad reviews down below just confirms it.

I always thought that people write these scammer reviews because they are upset, but not actually been subjected to a real scam. Well, I can say that there is a reason to call this agent for scammers. Sixt in Vilnius Airport showed us in a glorious way how to do scamming.

I truly hope that we can organize in a group and bring a claim to the Lithuanian Consumer Protection agency, because it amazes me how this company can still have a business license.

Stay safe, and avoid Sixt!

Awesome experience

Great experience I've had by renting a car from Sixt.lt (Klaipeda) Super friendly staff, less than 5 mins spent for vehicle collection - they didn't annoy me with extra excess insurance (i had my own annual one). No any hidden costs. I was advised that car can be returned outside of office hours by dropping the key in their dedicated letterbox which i did. Next morning i received the invoice confirming that the outstanding balance is zero (i had prepaid option) The vehicle was exactly the same model as per booking (2018 Toyota Avensis - 3months old, very clean) Very recommended company to use if you plan a trip to a beautiful Klaipeda (Lithuania)
Thanks
Denis
