if there is an option for 0 I would rate this company 0! it is such a scam. In 2020 during COVID lockdown in NZ I signed up with Shaw Academy FREE course, they then charged me over $80 USD worth of NZD currency from my bank and when I asked them to cancel my subscription and refund the money given I didn't use their service, their customer service refused to do so. They were unreachable by phones, could only be contacted via online chat or email.

I have had a completely different…

I have had a completely different experience with Shaw Academy. They were great to me and I enjoyed the photography course and have learned a lot and my photos have improved. Twice I tried to quit and someone from the Academy contacted me to encourage me to continue and asked how they could help and why I wanted to quit. The first time I explained that my mother had just passed away tragically and I just could not keep up as I was dealing with ptsd from her passing. They told me to take all the time I needed to finish my course.
Then the second time I explained I just could not afford it because I was no longer working. They then told me that if I still wanted to finish the course they would stop charging me and all my course materials would be free and I could take my time to finish the course. They just wanted to see me finish it. They were true to their word and did not charge me another cent. So I continued until life happened again. I took a bit of a break and only rarely went on to do a bit at a time. I had just recently started to get more focused and started to work it once again. I was over half way done and was getting very excited to be finished this course and take another one. Unfortunately when I tried to log in the skill list thing showed up and informed me my subscription has ended. I am in the process of trying to figure it out because I really want to finish this course and have already paid for my hard copy certificate for when I finished the course. I really hope to get this straightened out. It has been something that helped me keep going and I'm forward to when everything else in my life was falling apart.

Unauthorised/Accidental Purchase

I feel that this is unfair from Shaw Academy’s side. There was no confirmation for this purchase and I was trying to see what lesson I was at when the popup for the certificate popped up, which by the way is the second popup I had to close in a span of less than a minute.

From a developer's point of view (which I as a Multimedia and Web developer can comment on) you should at least have a confirmation set up for purchases when you have popups coming up the whole time linked to a payment to avoid situations like this. Take a look at Mr. Delivery and Takealot, they have the confirmation setup which I am referring to.

I already contacted the bank to cancel my card so that this can not happen again and also to do a chargeback.

QUALIFICATIONS NOT ACCREDITED

SCAM SCAM SCAM! listen to me now when I say THEIR QUALIFICATIONS ARE NOT ACCREDITED. I did the project management course and tried to use the hard copy certificate I recieved toward my career plans, new job etc. I got nowhere. They don't acknowledge these qualifications and as a result I have not got the job I wanted. They are a absolute rip off and should be avoided like the plague.

I'm fighting to get my money back right now and I'm not backing down until I get it. It's disgusting and what's worse, if you look up 'Skillist' their website is very similar and offered exactly the same courses/materials.

Be careful about auto renew

I enrolled in the Management course a few years ago. Be very careful! I signed up and paid for a year. The subscription auto renewed and they would not refund me. I hadn’t read the fine print. If you sign up, be sure to cancel the subscription if you don’t want to renew!! I could not reach them by phone. When doing the course, it wasn’t possible to communicate with anybody in person. At the start I sent an email to the lecturer and did not get a response. The online lecture content was very interesting though and well presented.

REFUND?? Don't hold your breath!!

I have had a similar experience to many of the bad reviews left here. I signed up for a free month, at the end of the free month I didn't realize that they continued to charge my card and when I did realize and got in touch with them, they insisted that my only option was "free lifetime access" as they "could not give me a refund."

I was frustrated and upset but accepted because I felt there was no other option, thinking "maybe there will be some good courses." After looking for courses that were half decent and useful to me and finding nothing, I contacted them again and this time demanded a refund as I never intended to give them my money and the "lifetime access" was useless to me since I didn't want any of their courses. "

This time I managed to get through to the customer service person that I was not going to stop confronting them until I got a refund and they said they would refund me $300 - still over $100 short of what they took from me. I decided to accept this as it was better than nothing, and guess what....??!?!?!

They STILL have not sent me that refund after I have written them back and asked for it several times. I don't know how they can live with themselves or sleep at night :(

It's a scam. Avoid at all costs

It's a scam. The courses are NOT free when you sign up. You have to pay extra for the course materials, then extra for the certificate. Not to mention the appalling quality of the course videos. Please avoid at all costs. I'm annoyed companies like this are still allowed to trade even though it's very clear looking at the reviews that they're 100% Scammers and using all the loop holes they can to not get shut down!

Absolute scammers.

Absolute scammers.
I had a hope to start new course and shaw academy sales kept calling and emailing me how good they are etc.

I signed up for free trial a month and I didn’t had enough time, chose the option to cancel my free subscription and the app said I have one more month free trial. So I chose to stay but again felt no use and cancelled it before 2 months.

This scammers ended up charging me £100 (two months subscription) which they said for free. So I learned my lesson and I hope everyone get to read the reviews before signing up for this scammers. STAY AWAY AT ANY COST

This company is disgusting and disappointing. They ensured me nothing will come out my bank after the course I had completed but yet still took £100 in December!!!
They owe me £100 and now are saying because I didn't cancel it in time they will not refund me eventhough they didn't tell me I had to do that in the first place. Told me I have to just complete the course and that's it!
Horrible AVOID AT ALL COST

Money's slaves

Personally, I haven't taken any courses, but I have tried to work at the call center in Tbilisi, Georgia, and I sneaked out on the very first day during the break. I didn't like what I was doing, and then I asked someone else next to me, and she explained to me so optimistically, that we have to call old clients and offer "new courses", and those courses are the old ones and all we had to do was to lie old customers and make them buy the course once again. I didn't like that I was calling people that we had their data from 2015/2016, they didn't even remember what was the Shaw Academy. I left, but others stayed, and they have never been paid. Shaw Academy = money's slaves.

Scammers and unprofessional

scammers and unprofessional. I wish I had read the 100s of reviews before I signed up. I like many other countless people had signed up for a 4 week free trial. The website is badly structured, making it easy for you to click on the resources which actually cost. they took £50 out my bank account with just one click, I asked for refund ofcourse but no response. Fast forward a couple of months -I get a call from a number. The guy on the phone is trying to convince me and he's being charming, friendly etc tells me to download the shaw academy app telling me I don't need to pay anything today etc. So I say okay and this time I refused to enter my card details - after going back and forth with his his true intentions became clear and he cut the call while I was speaking proving my point :)

SCAM METHODS

I once tried their 4 weeks "free" introduction online course in photography. The content wasn't what I hoped for, so I decided to quit immediately. AND THEN THEIR SCAM METHODS BECAME CLEAR. It was very difficult to end the course. Why is that so important? Because I had to give them my VISA-card number to access the "free" course, and if not telling them I want to quit (before the end of third week) they will start taking money. But I luckily made it. 😰 I write "luckily" because many persons haven't been able to quit.

Today I got a phone call from the "Academy" trying to hook me up again. There is no Caller ID available, so you can't block them. That's a CLEAR SCAMMER SIGN. Be aware!

My advice: Do NEVER give them access to your CREDIT CARD. Do never give them your PHONE NUMBER. If they were sincere and honest, they should let you try their services for free without requiring CREDIT CARD or PHONE NUMBER.

SCAM ALERT

I signed up and realised that I would not be using the course. Tried to cancel my subscription and received a call manipulating me to extend my free trial, with them saying they’d be in touch to confirm. I got nothing, never accessed any of the course material. I was charged for subscription renewal. They claim to have a “no quibbles” refund but it seems impossible to get one from them
