Fabulous Watercolour Courses

The watercolour courses offered on the Skillshare website are plentiful, interesting and fun. The amount of pleasure and entertainment I receive from the very reasonable subscription is more than worth it.

Do not recommend!

I had the annual subscription come out of my bank account, I emailed to ask for a refund aa I thought I had cancelled this and was within my 14-day window to get a refund. The first response I got back was telling me that this was not possible, however their website stats I am able to. Upon telling them this, they then changed their mind and tried to off me 50% of my refund and another full year! When searching online, I saw lots of other people who experience the same issue.

Cancelation Process Super Shady — SCAM

Purchased seats for a full creative team and paid annually. It autorenewed for a second year and it is not possible to reduce or cancel seats online.

Looking ahead to the next renewal, I contacted the "sales representative" even though no sales representatative was ever used for signup and got no response. Then emailed the HelpDesk and received an automated response that they are experiencing high volume of messages.

With so many options for skills development, I'd recommend ANY option over SkillShare.

RESPONSE TO YOUR REPLY:
There is no Cancel button to click on the Membership & Payments page. Further proving this system is deeply flawed and feels very shady. Even your own instructions to cancel are incorrect. How am I supposed to click a Cancel button that doesn't exist?

Hi Adam,

We're sorry to hear about your experience — we can understand how frustrating this must feel, especially when managing multiple seats for a team and trying to make changes ahead of renewal.

We also understand your concern around not receiving a timely response and only seeing an automated message. While response times can vary during high-volume periods, we recognize that this doesn’t help when you’re trying to resolve something urgent like billing and seat management.

We're sorry to hear about the confusion with the cancellation process. Please know that we are actively working to enhance our systems to prevent such occurrences in the future.

We've outlined the steps to cancel via our public Help Center below: https://help.skillshare.com/hc/articles/115001701651

We appreciate you taking the time to share this, and I’m sorry again that your experience has been so frustrating.

Misleading Subscriptions, No Accountability, and Refusal to Refund

I had a very frustrating experience with Skillshare and would not recommend them. This company seems to benefit from customers who do not actually intend to stay subscribed. I was under the impression that I had canceled my membership years ago, only to later discover I was charged for an annual renewal.
After looking into it, I found many similar experiences from other customers who also believed they had canceled, only to be unexpectedly charged later. That raises serious concerns about how their subscription and cancellation process is handled.
Their customer service was no help at all. I received repeated, copy-paste responses quoting policy, with no willingness to actually review my situation or escalate my request. Any legitimate business would issue a refund when a customer reaches out within hours of a charge and has not used the service at all—but Skillshare refused and only offered store credit.
What was especially concerning is that they would not provide me with my own account history or documentation, claiming “security reasons.” As a customer, I should be able to access information about my own account.
Overall, this felt like a very unfair and disappointing experience. I would strongly caution others not to use this service at all.

Hi Christy,

We're sorry to hear about your experience — we can understand why this would feel frustrating and disappointing, especially when you believed your membership had already been canceled and were then charged unexpectedly.

At Skillshare, we aim to be transparent about our billing practices, including during the free trial period. When signing up for a trial, we do mention that the membership will automatically renew into an annual subscription unless canceled before the trial ends. We also send reminder emails in advance of the renewal to help ensure members aren’t caught off guard.

Understanding the issue you've faced is important to us, as it doesn't meet the exceptional experience we aim to offer our members. Please reach out to us at help@skillshare.com; we're here to assist you.
Regarding your support experience, we're sorry that you felt your case wasn’t properly reviewed or escalated. While policies around refunds and account access are applied consistently, we understand that each situation is personal, and it’s important that customers feel heard and supported in the process.

We appreciate you taking the time to share this detailed feedback, and we’re sorry that your experience led to this level of frustration.

Very poor customer service. If they dont like what you are asking of them, they simply stop replying. Its horrible. This is why SkillShare isnt doing well at all. If they dont up their game, they will not last long. Back to Udemy i guess.

DON’T sign up for a free trial without reading the very fine print!

If you aren’t careful you will be charged for an entire year’s subscription and if you don’t see it on your credit card bill in time, they won’t do anything about it. Except try to tell you that it’s your own fault.
Very unhelpful, unsympathetic customer service.
It’s a messed up system to make money.
A very sneaky tactic.

I am super vigilant about free trials, I always put them in my calendar and cancel days before.
I didn’t realize that I was being subscribed fully and receiving no notifications that it happened.
Don’t used the free trial unless you are very careful to unsubscribe in time!

Hi Melissa,

We're sorry to hear about your experience — we can understand how upsetting it would be to feel caught off guard by a charge like this, especially when you’re usually very careful with free trials.

Skillshare free trials do convert to a paid membership if they aren’t canceled before the trial ends, and in most cases, renewal notifications are sent in advance. That said, we understand that if those emails weren’t seen or received, it can still feel unexpected and frustrating.

We also hear your concerns about customer service and communication. Feedback like yours is important, and we’ll make sure it’s shared with the team so we can continue improving clarity and support around billing and trials.

Thank you for taking the time to share this — we’re sorry this was your experience.

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out, and we're sorry to hear about your experience. We understand how frustrating and concerning it must feel to see a yearly subscription charge you weren’t expecting, especially without clear communication or follow-up.

That’s not the experience we want for our members. We also regret hearing that you felt your emails went unanswered—this is certainly not the level of support we aim to provide.

We’d really like the opportunity to look into this properly and review what happened on your account. If you’re open to it, please reach out again so we can investigate and work toward a resolution for you as quickly as possible.

We’re sorry to hear about the playback issues you experienced. Glitchy videos and a flickering toolbar can definitely take away from the learning experience, and that’s not what we want for you.

If you’re still encountering this, a few things that may help are updating your browser/app, clearing cache, or trying a different device or network. If the issue continues, reaching out to support with details (device, browser, screenshots) can help the team investigate further.

We’re glad to hear you still found the classes enjoyable and educational, and we’ll be sure to share this feedback to help improve the experience.
