Please avoid Roof works by Frank from

Please avoid Roof works by Frank from, Skyline Roofing Service based in Exeter but branches in Torquay.
My mum was approached by Frank whom suggested the roof didn’t require scaffolding to fix a leak. Frank quoted my mum £450 to fix the rendering on the chimney side of the roof. My mum lives in a bungalow.
The job took 1 hour. Neighbours said they appeared to look and act like cowboy builders.
My mum paid by cash after the works were completed.
Unfortunately since Easter when the works were done the leak has not been fixed. We emailed the Torquay and Exeter branch of the company with no acknowledgment or reply. We eventually got hold of Frank whom promised to re visit the property that week to investigate. This of course didn’t happen. Mum never got a receipt but an invoice.
We have since had another company look at the roof and they have said that a patch job has been done only. Not worth £450 that my mum paid.
An expensive lesson learnt for an elderly lady but please check reviews for companies, their website doesn’t list any details for complaints. Funny that!!!
I will also go to Trading Standards to report.

Aggressive cowboy roofer

I don’t often give negative reviews, but these two you need to be aware of and avoid if you want a professional job.

To avoid confusion, it is regarding a John Mason and someone calling himself “Frank” from Skyline Roofing based at 72 Paris Street, Exeter, EX1 2JY. skylineroofingservice.co.uk There are several roofing companies with a similar name, but our review is regarding Skyline Roofing in Exeter.

We recently had 4 slipped roof slates which we needed to be repaired and unfortunately ended up using John Mason of Skyline Roofing, Exeter. To start with he was late arriving to give us a quote (which we made allowances for, people are sometimes late) however, then he didn’t turn up on the agreed Saturday to do the work. I got a call at work the following Monday from someone calling themselves “Frank” to say that his van had blown up and that’s why he (presumably John) couldn’t come. I should have been suspicious then because it was quite obviously a lie. Furthermore, why didn’t he call/text or email to let us know that he wouldn’t be able to keep the appointment? Very unprofessional.

When John eventually turned the carry out the work the following Wednesday, it was done within 40 minutes (we have this on camera). He then disappeared off, presumably to another job. We received his invoice later that evening stating that it needed to be paid straightway. The invoice stated that there is a 5-year guarantee for the work done (more on that in a moment), but it didn’t have our correct address, so I emailed asking him to correct this so that the “guarantee” was valid. I also asked if I could pay by Barclaycard.

The following day my husband got a very nasty phone call wherein “Frank” was very aggressive and threatened that if payment wasn’t made by the end of the day, he would come onto our property and “reclaim the silicone he’d used to glue the tiles back onto the roof”. SILICON? We were told he would be using copper nails, no wonder it only took 40 minute instead of 2 hours as was discussed originally.

We have paid this cowboy but have also reported his aggressive behaviour to the police and Trading Standards for the “work” carried out on our roof. I am sure these reports will sit in a queue along with others as going by the way that “Frank” and John Mason conduct business, I am sure others have had the misfortune to have come across them.

AVOID John Mason and “Frank” from skylineroofingservice.co.uk
