Slöjd and spōn is rooted in traditional craftsmanship, with a total focus on the preservation of heritage crafts. Based in West Yorkshire, Slöjd and spōn is dedicated to the preservation of traditional Scandinavian slöjd through meticulously hand‑crafted knives, leatherwork, and treen. My work follows the same principles and methods used by Swedish craftspeople for centuries: slow, intentional making with nothing more than an axe, a slöjd knife, and skilled hands. I never use power tools at any stage of the process. Every blade is individually hand‑forged in Nottinghamshire from O1 Sheffield tool steel, shaped and finished by hammer and anvil, entirely by eye to achieve exceptional sharpness, durability, and character. All of my leatherwork is stitched by hand using a simple awl and the finest Italian vegetable‑tanned leather. Each sheath is custom wet‑formed in a traditional Scandinavian style and fitted with a hand‑carved solid birch wood liner — I never use plywood. I harvest all of my own timber by axe, selecting each tree personally and working the wood in its green state before drying. Every part of the tree is used, from handles and sheath liners to spoons, ladles, and smaller treen items. My knife handles are carefully chip‑carved with traditional Swedish and Scandinavian folk patterns, then finished with artists’ linseed oil paints for a timeless, breathable, eco‑friendly finish that patinas beautifully with time. My signature knife design, the Slöjd Super Slim, is a uniquely ergonomic spoon‑carving knife, light, tactile, and comfortable across all Swedish fundamental knife grips. Slöjd and spōn exists to honour and preserve the old ways: hand‑crafted, human‑centred, and rooted in tradition. Every piece is made with care, precision, and respect in my little Yorkshire workshop. I hope that my use of colour, folk art, and function can inspire others to become makers themselves, and that any piece you buy from me will become part of the heritage craft revival and help preserve this wonderful Swedish craft tradition. Luke ~ Slöjd and spōn ~
