I am reporting them. They are holding my money, and business hostage. You will never ever get a hold of an actual SBB employee in Kansas HQ

If there was a 0 star I would give Small Business bank “SBB” that. Unfortunately I have to click on 1 Star. In my 57 years of doing business I have never gone though anything so unprofessional as to what I just went through with Small Business Bank.
The only reason I decided to use a online bank is because I’m opening a online business. BIG mistake.
1st - their website is slow, hard to navigate and way out of date.
2) - there’s an 800 number that goes to a calling center, who knows where the calling center is but it’s not the actual bank so all they can do is answer the phone eventually and then take a message for someone at the bank or try to put you through but most of the time no one answers at the bank. The calling center people are actually polite and try to do their job, but there’s only so much they can do. So none of this is their fault.
3) once you leave a message they either never get back to you or it takes for ever. Really bad service.
4) I eventually got through to them, and was able to open an account. Once I went through all the BS of applying, they gave me my log in credentials, I logged in and noticed there was messages on their crappy slow secured message box. The messages stated I needed to upload mine and partners gov. ID’s. Which I did but their 1980 website kept telling me they didn’t upload. So, again replied to their email asking them if they received the ID’s or not because I couldn’t tell but it seemed it worked. Eventually, (2) days later they emailed me back to let me know they had received our ID’s. But then I needed to fill out my partners info, which I had already done when I originally applied, weird right?. I figured I would do it again, once I filled out her info again I never received confirmation it was done, so again I don’t know if they received the info they requested. I received another secured email letting me know I needed to get a some form, I can’t remember what they called it but I needed to fill it out, signed and notarized. I felt it was weird, so I questioned it, and they emailed me back apologizing that I didn’t have to do that it was a mistake of their part. Again, more BS from them. After all that I’m thinking I have an account and I’m about ready to link to my online business to start depositing money.
5) A few Days later I get an email on my personal real life email letting me know I have an email in the secured box in my back office of their website. So, I go to log into their website and I’m not able to log in. I call the call center, they can’t put me through to the bank and I leave a message but no one gets back to me for 3 days. I call back a man answered and I’m on the phone for over an hour trying to get through to the bank and NADA, I can’t get through and the guy on the call can’t find my account anywhere. I gave him my account number, business name, you name it, I gave it to him and nothing. So we leave another message LOL. None of this was his fault. It’s the blind leading the blind because the so called fake online bank doesn’t communicate with them.
6) Next day I call again, because again no one calls me back from the bank and leave another message. Finally, the next day someone calls me back to tell me my account was closed because of a discrepancy. WHAT? no explanation? no reason? I have perfect credit, have plenty of money in the bank, been in my home for a long period of time, have owned many businesses. HUH?
MORAL OF THE STORY - DO YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR MONEY IN A SO CALLED BANK THAT, WHEN YOU NEED SOMETHING OR WANT TO TAKE YOUR MONEY OUT, YOU CANT GET AHOLD OF ANYONE IF THEIR IS A PROBLEM AND NEED MONEY IN A EMERGENCY and no one gets back to you and you can’t call the bank directly?
They open an account with you, take out the $5.00 from your REAL bank account and deposit it. You upload everything they ask for only to find out (2) weeks later there’s a discrepancy and they close your account without any explanation. I have an account number, log in etc.
They are so stupid they send you an email you can only read or open through their 1980’s website secure portal but close your account so you can’t log in to read. JUST THINK ABOUT IT. My recommendation would be to RUN and not put your money in this so called virtual bank, you may have trouble getting your money out when you need it. By the looks of the reviews, I’m not the only unhappy person.

I've been with them maybe a week and a half and it is the worst experience ever. They do not answer the phone usually and if they do they lie and say the supervisor will call you back.
The worst experience
I opened an account on 12/23/2020 and had my EIDL loan deposited on 01/04/2020 and 7 days later I needed to pay my employee which I did by originating a wire transfer. And, I had unpaid bills which should have been paid 2 weeks ago but they rejected the payments. Later, I talked to customer service and they said my account is under review. Then I asked to provide a time frame for review processing as I needed to access my funds and what I received was from Venetia Carpenter (Customer Support) the review process can take up to 60 days to complete. How come my account could be under review if all the requested documents were provided prior any deposits? 60 days? No explanations! I can't now either use my funds or initiate any transfers. This bank is a SCAM!
Positive banking experience for my business
I have been using Small Business Bank for several years. I appreciate their detailed security measures to set up the account. I have had excellent customer service for any question I may have. I have not had any problems with transfers to my personal account or paying bills. Any problems I have encounter have been my own mistake and mostly involved technical issues. I have had many more issues with larger banks in the past and feel the service SBB provides is superior and valuable.

Lots all lies
This bank they don't know how to handle business i opened an account i really thought i did but was never activated. Now they secured 2 message wich i can't get in because My account is locked. Well after you answer this last review you never fixed anything you closed my account and returned my money without letting me know. I ask you do you think what you guys did is correct? When the bank ask me for any documents I submitted immediately once I was 5 hrs away driving and I cancelled everything just for me to submitted what you ask me for what ? The funds come from a legit source Wich is SBA.

This bank is really a scam
This bank is really a scam. I do wonder why it is still working. The FDIC should close them up. I had pass through all the bank account opening procedures.
I managed to get funds into it but now getting an email from them in order to transfer my funds is a big problem now. Cant register the ACH transfer to my other bank accounts.
I advise people to stay away from this bank. My cousin who works for the Government is already investigating them.

How does this bank keep showing up on "best of" lists?
The website looks like something I made in 7th grade tech class. There's no clear instructions about depositing a check online or even any real indications about how to handle money. Creating an account is frustrating-- you need to deposit 5 dollars to get started, but can only call to do that, but can only do that by speaking to a banker, and even when you catch them during business hours, they may just tell you your request can't be processed but then call you the next day?
Seriously. These big business sites obviously don't have the small business experiences in mind when they put this nonsense at the top of their lists.

Terrible service! I opened an account and had my PPP loan deposited and the next day it was gone! I talked to customer service and they said my account wasn't fully active and that I needed to send an affidavit and questionnaire which I had already done at the beginning, ughhh!This bank is a SCAM!

Get what you pay for: garbage.
We picked this bank for the lack of fees and got what we paid for. Absolutely terrible. We had issues with the mobile deposits and had to download the app on a separate phone for it to work without crashing. Then 2 of our checks were denied and we received no notification at all, I spent 20 min on the phone with customer service to figure out why the checks showed up online but the money wasn't there. The website and the app are a decade out of date, which should have been a massive red flag for an online bank. Don't waste your time, pay some small fees somewhere else and save yourself the headache.

Worst Bank In The USA
This bank is run by people who have no idea what they are doing. You can't find anything on their website and calling them is like talking to a two year old. I opened an account, and now weeks later, no one can even find the account!
Finding a good bank online is not easy. I finally used First Internet Bank of Indiana, which turned out to be a great bank. I sure won't trust Small Business bank.

We opened up an account
We opened up an account, they took our deposit. We asked if they were going to send us checks and a debit card, they told us that they were still reviewing our account. An hour later, they told us this: Your account was reviewed by our Risk Management team recently. In accordance with our policy for transactions we are closing your account effective immediately. Your initial deposit will be refunded as of the date of this notice.
The problem is that we never made any transactions....what are they talking about? Oh well....there are many other options...glad to have experienced this early.
Always have had a positive experience
I've been using Small Business Bank for nearly five years and the only issue I've faced, and it was only once, was in getting an acceptable picture of a very oddly shaped check. (I did eventually get it through).
I've even had an occurrence of the bank contacting me directly on a Friday afternoon to let me know that there was an issue on one of the checks deposited - they wanted to let me know in case the funds would be needed immediately. That enabled me to redeposit immediately and all was good.
The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 ........
SBB no longer accepts money orders or bill pay checks by direct deposit and, instead, requires them to be mailed in. Not a huge deal since I rarely get those but, instead of a full refusal, the use of an automatic hold on those Items would have been much preferred.
This is probably the worst banking…
This is probably the worst banking experience I have every dealt with. The customer service is just plain horrible. The mobile deposit is the main focus unless you live in Kansas where their one bank is located so you figure the mobile deposit platform would rank among the best in the banking industry...right? Think again. It is very difficult to get an acceptable picture to verify check. I have a higher end smart phone and camera. Bank of America accepted pic of checks first try every time for me for comparison. You better not submit a check that is made out the initials of your company: ie A Better Company (A.B.C.) or they will reject it. The customer service is slow and I NEVER got a debit card after 3 months of opening the account and asking for it in writing 4 times.
So do what you want but I suggest you don't even waste your time with this mickey mouse bank. What is the point of using an "internet" bank when you can't even use the mobile deposit feature. LOL

Almost painless
Almost painless. My loan officer was very kind, understanding, then quickly worked to determine how she might help me. I had her full attention, until my business was completed. I felt quit comfortable as I was walked thru the process.
Have had nothing but positive…
Have had nothing but positive experiences since starting to deal with Small Business Bank over four years ago. I keep a small amount in the account - money goes out just as quickly as it comes in - and with other banks, this would create a big service charge issue for a home-based small business. Not with this company. Instead, I deal here with next day credit on deposits and 24/7 access. And, in the one case I would have had an issue, I received a call from them "before" the issue actually happened in order to straighten it out. You don't get that kind of service from any bank today but here I am bragging on them for service quality.
They do a good job of holding my money
They do a good job of holding my money! I started banking with them when I was 17. Back when they were Gardner bank, I set the account up with my mom back then. After awhile they changed their name to Small Business Bank which I thought was weird. And then they up and left Gardner and moved to Lenexa??? It was very annoying, and very inconvenient. I went in the other day to get my mom removed from my account and they said that they can't do that without shutting down my account and I can't reopen one once I shut it down because they don't do personal accounts anymore? Only business. Overall I actually don't like this company at all, I just want this to be on their website.

Excellent for Small Business. No hidden fees, no highway robbery. Communication is fast, easy and courteous. The web interface is a bit outdated and lacks some information, but nothing major or critical. I love SBB!
