Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 223 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the payment process, often finding it difficult or impossible to pay for parking, leading to unexpected fines. People frequently reported issues with the appeal process, stating that their detailed explanations and evidence were ignored, and appeals were consistently rejected, often resulting in increased charges. Reviewers also highlighted problems with the clarity of parking signs and payment methods, which they felt were often inadequate or misleading. The service was widely criticized, with many feeling that the company's primary intent was to issue fines rather than facilitate parking, leading to what some described as excessive payments and questionable practices. Customers also noted that fines would escalate rapidly, sometimes without prior notification, and that debt collectors were involved, causing significant stress and financial burden.

You WILL DEFINITELY recieve a parking charge…

You WILL recieve a parking charge as the other reviews have mentioned. Please do not park here and try to avoid this company. They will ignore the appeal and you will have to pay an even higher fee when it goes to debt collection. I don't know who they think they are as well because most of the time their car parks are absolutely trash with no lines for parking, 1 working payment terminal and it feels like you're driving on the surface of the moon. Their profits come from the fines and not the actual fees they recieve from from parking.

I would also like to give 1 star to the mothers and fathers of the employees of this company for raising little thieving rats, with no morals.

To the software engineers that didn't implement a large enough tolerence between entry and exit time on the ANPR system. - change career, you're max level dumb.

To the appeal team - nevermind there is no appeal team, they will ignore you and wait for it to go to debt collectors for easy moola.

Glen Lyn Car Park Combe Martin

Avoid Smart Parking car parks! Regardless of your circumstances which "may" have made you a few minutes late, your appeal will not be successful and in my case, I didn't receive any response to my appeal and was then referred to a debt recovery agency for non payment and told I had been sent 4 letters, when I had received absolutely nothing! It has now cost me £170. They should be ashamed of their conduct, it's disgraceful and dishonest.

Would give 0 is it was an option.

Would give 0 is it was an option.
I've no idea why I've been given a parking charge. . I've never had one in 34 years of driving because I've never broken the law. . I can only think I've mis-typed the registration number of my car , I've no idea. A very disproportionate fine, £60 for the £1.20 the ticket cost!! I'll never use any of their car parks again. The stories I've read are shocking. How on earth are they getting away with it !!

Unfair parking fines from Smart Parking for EV drivers!

Unfair parking fines for EV drivers!
I received a fine from Smart Parking after charging my rental car at the Instavolt station at Bannatyne Broadstairs — despite having paid for the charge. There were no clear signs explaining that drivers needed to register or inform the club. It feels like a trap for anyone just stopping to charge. Very disappointing and unfair practice.

The pay machine was out of order which…

The pay machine was out of order which was displayed on the machine and i took two photos of the display there was only one machine in the car park. I received a parking fine so i appealed and got there response they say they have rereviewed my appeal and have dismissed the fact that the machine was out of order as there was another machine in a near by car park which to doesn`t make sense as that car park would have a different location code. I have paid there blood money but what a lot of rob dog bastards

No care for distraught toddler

My daughter who was a year old was distraught in the back of the car and so we pulled up outside the hotel and got her and our luggage out so we could give her to my mum and go and park the car elsewhere. We were there for 10-15 mins and received a fine which has now gone up to £170. I explained that it was because we needed to get my daughter out the car who was hyperventilating through tears and they said they were going to fine us anyway. I appealed the case and they still made us pay. They then said they had written to me 5 times to make contact which is a lie and now we allegedly owe them £170 for parking for ten minutes with a toddler in a bad way.

Avoid any car park managed by Smart Parking Ltd – they are dodgy!
We recently visited Margate and entered Arlington Car Park, but it was completely full. The place was filthy, had broken fences, and smelled awful. We couldn’t even park—just drove around for a few minutes and left—yet Smart Parking Ltd. still sent us a £100 fine claiming we had parked for 11 minutes.

This feels like a trap. Smart Parking is fake, dodgy, unfair and should be avoided at all costs!

Why Do Businesses employ this Company

Like so many people who post reviews on this Company and the disgusting methods they use to extract monies from people who totally innocently fall prey to them, I unfortunately fell victim to them in June this year.I wont bore you with the details but have went down the Appeals Process with them(yes I know its completely a waste of time) and although I appealed to the Independant body I have still to hear the outcome of this(again I won't hold my breath waiting for a favourable outcome) I received a letter from Debt Recovery Plus demanding payment of £170 from the original figure of £60.I suppose the main point I want to make is that practically in ALL cases that people contact Trustpilot they all say the same thing that they will never use/visit the businesses/leisure places etc who employ this Company.Surely these businesses etc see whats going on and know they will suffer as a consequence of losing trade as a consequence of these Charlatans. On the subject of the Appeals processes they use I tried to through Freedom of Information try to get the percentages of appeals being succesful/unsuccesful but have ran into a brickwall trying to get this information.

Never use Smart Parking

Wasted time near machine which was cash only, inserted coin and waited again in hope it will give me back the change, then gave up and just took the ticket, displayed it. And here we go: parking charge for extra 1 (ONE!!) minute. My advise is never use Smart Parking.

Vile vile company

These people are absolutely vile creatures, they give U a ticket that has a start time on it and a finish time in it and then sends you a fine telling you that those aren't the actual times. Absolute con men. Just looked at the people who run the business. I explained the reason we were three minutes late because of a panic attack and these disgusting poor excuse for human beings want £100 off us. Paul Gillespie, Richard Ludbrook, Jo Hiney and the rest of you disgusting specimens need to take a look in the mirror and stop this disgusting operation you're running

Utterly disgraceful company

Utterly disgraceful company. Issued me with a ticket dispute the fact that their machine wasn’t working properly. This was unknown to me at the time. Correspondence with the car park owner then shone light on the issue. Refused to cancel the ticket. Had to go to the IAS with the same evidence to get them to cancel the ticket. Company is utterly disgraceful. All reviews are more than accurate. If I see their name on any car park I will never use. Complete entrapment!

Awful

Awful! Criminals! How are these people still going? We entered the car park in Newquay, drove around to find a space, parked, got a ticket, returned within the time and left. Apparently we overstayed by 13 minutes and fined us. They also say they can write outside of the 14 days because they were "receiving my details". Pile of shit. They have a machine and cameras, they have immediate access to the details. However like many, I do not have the energy for a further fight and this is what they rely on! AVOID this company!!!!!!

DO NOT USE - EVER!

Do not park at any car park owned by this company. They are scammers. Look at any reviews. Don't be like me and assume because I always pay it won't be a problem. They just issue you a PCN anyway - four years later.
There is a reason why these parking companies make more money than the biggest innovators in UK. Criminals in plain sight.
Sadly, this not only impacts customers but results in less trade for local businesses because no one will use the car park.

This is a disreputable company

This is a disreputable company. I went to the website of the place i was visiting to check on parking fees, and the website clearly states that parking is free. I took my 82 year old mother, who has mobility issues, and parked in the car park. There were no clear signs, and based on my check of the website, I assumed the parking was free. I just received a notice that I am being charged a 100 pound fine. I came to read reviews and it seems that this company is only here to rip people off. I won't be going to visit the place where I parked ever again, so it is their loss for contracting with this company.

Unjustified PCN Issued

I had an extremely frustrating experience with Smart Parking. I paid via RingGo for parking from 1:21 PM to 2:21 PM. I left the premises, believing I was within the time I paid for, only to be told that I left at 2:27 PM. Even if I was a few minutes late, this still seems well within the tolerance period, yet I received an unjustified PCN.
It feels like they are more focused on issuing fines than providing fair, customer-focused solutions. I strongly advise others to be cautious when using this service, as it seems they are quick to issue penalties without giving adequate consideration.
