Never buy from this company

Never buy from this company. I requested 7 day access only for 1 pdf that I needed to amend, and they have taken £49.99 from me for 2 months now which I never authorised. Its shockingly bad. Never buy or use this company. Terrible service, not transparent in their dealings and hugely untrustworthy.

Scam - stay clear!

Same experience to everyone else. Purchased a document for £1.99 and then was automatically subscribed, leaving me £49.99 out of pocket. Did not sign up, or create an account, neither did I recieve any communication that said about a trial ending or a subscription. Very hidden. Do not use!

MIS-SOLD SUBSCRIPTION – MISLEADING & UNFAIR

I purchased a subscription to this service in the UK for £1.99 per week, but the company mis-sold a £49.99 per month subscription. They charged me for two months even though I did not log in or use the service during that time.

I contacted customer service requesting a refund, but they refused and admitted they do not have a complaints procedure. This is a clear case of misleading and unfair trading practices, which falls under UK consumer protection law.

Warning to others: Do not trust the small-print promises — this company’s billing is deceptive and potentially unlawful. I am pursuing a chargeback and reporting this to Citizens Advice and Trading Standards.

Misleading Subscription Trap & Refused Refund

I strongly advise people to stay away from SmartPDF.

I signed up for what was presented as a one-week subscription for £1.99. Nowhere during checkout was it clearly and explicitly stated that I would automatically be enrolled into a £49.99 monthly subscription after the trial.

A few days later, £49.99 was taken from my account without any clear warning or reminder.

When I contacted support on the very same day of the charge, explaining that:
• I did not authorise a £49.99 subscription
• I did not intend to continue beyond one week
• I did not use the service beyond the trial

Their response was simply:

“Our conditions are clearly stated on our website and unfortunately, we are unable to adhere to your request.”

No investigation.
No goodwill gesture.
No accountability.

Just a generic copy-paste response hiding behind “terms and conditions.”

Important billing information should be displayed clearly before purchase — not buried in fine print that customers only see after payment is processed. After researching, I noticed many other customers on Trustpilot reporting the exact same issue, which makes this look like a deliberate subscription trap rather than a misunderstanding.

I have now cancelled and will be raising a formal dispute with my bank.

This business model feels deceptive and intentionally designed to catch customers off guard.

Avoid at all costs.

Paid for 1 time service £1. 7 days later deducted £49.99. When I reached out to support they said it’s in general terms and conditions and automatically subscribed me to there service.

Watch out - absolute SCAM!!

Went to their website which was offering a pdf compression service for €0.10 and requested that service. I then found that they had taken €49.50 claiming this was an annual subscription. I emailed to complain and request a refund - they don’t reply.

Avoid this company like the plague

Avoid this company like the plague. It appears to trade under different name , (the other name being “TOPPDF”. I converted a couple of JPEG’s to PDF at 10p a picture, only to discover they had deducted £49.90 from my credit card, telling me that I had subscribed. At no point during the transaction could I see this. I emailed them twice to query this, and got no reply. It appears they are operating from New York and somewhere in Chine. My credit card company refunded the £40.90 but I was very lucky I reckon. STAY WELL CLEAR from these scammers…!
