I used this app 3 years ago or so and if you took a photo that had an issue, it was rejected immediately and you tried again. this time, the photo is "processed" for quite a while before it is rejected and then you start again, increasing the time it takes to actually get a code. When I ordered a French photo with a code, I was quoted 2.89 but at checkout, I had no choice but to accept a print mailed to me as well, increasing the cost to over 8 euros. I don't want a print but found no way to decline. I found the process a bit frustrating and it took longer than the hype suggests it will take. I did end up with a photo eventually and overall, it was easier than finding a Photo Booth in my neighborhood.

Don’t expect to get a refund. It’s policy…
After numerous attempts to get an acceptable picture eventually one worked. I sent it to Irish passport office who rejected it!
Took
A single shot myself and submitted it and it went through.Applied for a refund only to be told that proof of rejection was required. Naturally , as it had been rejected during the process, I had none. No proof - no refund. Even if it hadn’t been set out at the outset. Lesson learned!
UPDATE - Had a message from Customer Support asking me to send a copy of my passport so they could see the photo wasn’t theirs and they would issue a refund. Did that and within a couple of hours received confirmation of a refund.
Issue resolved - good for you!

In the end the photos were rejected
The photos were approved by Smartphone ID , but were rejected by the Gov.Uk website when trying to apply for the document.

Not need to be sceptical
Always sceptical about such apps but no need to worry here. Great app; I did 2 passport pictures and it actually rejected one so I re-did it and sent both through and they were both accepted. Cheaper and more convenient than doing it elsewhere and more reliable and accurate than a selfie

Simple enough but no chance to get an additional hard copy photo. One photo is not enough. Digital photo means you just have to go and get it printed. Should have paid slightly more on another site and got additional photos

Frustrating
Frustrating. You get your photo rejected by their robot when it decides that you are not looking straight enough to the flash it creates or any silly small reason.
Eventually, it graciously handed down its positive decision, just before I was about to delete the app.
Frankly, it is not great.

SmartphoneID worked perfectly
SmartphoneID worked perfectly! For some reason my visa application wouldn’t take the photo number I had already entered in the application when I resumed the application after a couple weeks and I couldn’t get to a photo shop to get a new one as I was out of the country. Smartphone ID was recommended by a lawyer I was working with as a way to get the right photo with a number required by the visa application. It was easy and fast. In fact my first photo was rejected as I held the camera a little low. But they were very quick to identify the problem, gave instructions to correct and I got a much better photo that was accepted. The number worked for the application. Would highly recommend. Fast, easy, and reasonably priced.
