First Impressions
This was my first inquiry with Smartseal. I left a msg for a call back but got through to speak to Sophie Yan who had great product knowledge and helped me choose the right paint for my driveway.
Meanwhile I promptly got a call from a young man in response to my call back request.

Customer service sunshine
On Sunday evening, I went in search of the best price for 5ltr Smartseal Xtreme and, lo and behold, it looked like Smartseal themselves were the winners, by some distance, AND it was free shipping; excellent, I thought, let’s visit the website and order it.
Unfortunately, the system kept adding £3.95 for shipping so I sent a message querying why this was happening. (Super easy to get in touch with them, their means of contact are totally visible, accessible, not hidden.)
Anyway, 12 hours later, early Monday, having identified that this was the product for me, and anxious to get cracking, I ordered it from B&Q for next day delivery – free shipping but a fiver more than Smartseal! Ah well
Then, an hour later, the phone rang and, all I can say is, I was treated to a masterclass in customer service, delivered by Ricky.
He had a lovely bright manner, intelligent, listening, understanding and, well, a breath of fresh air halfway through a Monday morning. I couldn’t believe someone had answered my query so quickly! What a great start to my week.
Best of all, he was totally across the issue, fully appreciated that the Google entry I’d responded to was potentially misleading and would ask IT to take a look.
For the inconvenience, Ricky offered to dispatch the product without any shipping fee - I then had to explain that I’d just ordered it from B&Q! In that case, he said, he’d arrange to refund me the £3.95 via B&Q. No sooner said than done; in less than half an hour, there was a flurry of emails from Smartseal, B&Q and PayPal, all confirming the refund. I know it’s ‘only’ £3.95 but the amount is irrelevant, the proactive positive human effort is worth 10x that.
The goods are due today so I can’t comment on its performance yet but … watch this space, there could be another instalment … who knows, maybe Ricky will come and clean the patio himself? … 😉
