Misleading trial — unexpected charge without clear warning
I signed up for what was advertised as a free trial, expecting a full month to test the platform, as there was no clear indication anywhere (especially in the Ukrainian-translated version of the site) that the trial was only 24 hours. The next day, I was charged the full subscription amount — without warning, and without even using the service beyond initial testing.
Support responded quickly but refused any kind of refund, even partial. Their explanation was that the trial details were listed under the subscription tab — not something the average user would find if the interface is poorly translated or lacks clarity.
This felt like a trap. If I had known it was only a 24-hour trial, I never would have signed up. Be very cautious before entering your payment info.
The service might be useful — but the way they handle trials and charges is far from transparent.

amazing and helps a lot
Scam behavior : charged $170.54 cad for a "free trial" then attempted $238.26 CAD the next day
As an international student in Canada, managing a tight budget while being restricted to part-time work, every dollar matters. That’s why what happened with Smodin was not just disappointing. It was alarming.
I signed up for what was clearly presented as a free trial. I never used the service — not a single credit, not a single feature. Yet, I was charged $170 for an annual subscription, with no warning, no confirmation screen, and no explicit consent on my part.
To make matters worse, there was a second attempt to charge me $238.26 CAD, which my bank thankfully blocked. I never agreed to any of this.
When I contacted the customer support, they claimed that since the service is digital, it couldn’t be refunded. That rationale is both technically and ethically flawed. Access to digital services can be revoked, accounts can be deactivated, and usage rights can be disabled. Especially when there has been no actual usage. In my case, the platform shows zero activity: no credits used, no tools accessed, NOTHING AT ALL. You cannot call this fair business. I only entered my card details with the intention of exploring the service during the trial period, and at most, I would have considered opting for a one-month plan if I found it useful.
Smodin's practices does not reflect transparency. It’s entrapment. I’ve reported this to my bank and will pursue the matter further with consumer protection agencies.
I urge others to steer clear of this platform. And to Smodin : reverse this charge and cancel the subscription and ISSUE A REFUND.
UPDATE MAY 9th
Hi,
You initially charged me $170.54 CAD.
You then issued a partial refund of only $161.59 CAD, and without any explanation, you proceeded to charge me an additional $21.42 CAD on the same day.
This means I am still out $30.37 CAD in total — and I have no idea why. I never used the service, never authorized these amounts, and never received a clear explanation of any fees. This behavior is unacceptable, and borders on deceptive billing.
I demand:
A full refund of the $21.42 CAD,
An explanation for the missing $8.95 from the original amount, and
A written confirmation that no further charges will be made to my account.
You had a chance to resolve this fairly. Do not make this worse by hiding behind vague policies — I expect transparency and immediate action.

internet fraud
Dear Internet users. Be careful with this company. I was scammed in a similar way to people who have experienced this before (it's a pity that I only noticed their opinions now). In my case, the situation was as follows: I purchased a monthly subscription. A fee was charged. After a minute, a banner appeared showing the possibility of saving 40% of the cost. I clicked on it to read the terms of the promotion. Suddenly, it turned out that the subscription was changed to an annual one when I clicked on the banner. I canceled it immediately. Unfortunately, the fee was charged. I notified the company after a few minutes. I informed them that I did not want to use their services on an annual basis, but only monthly, and that I expected a refund. After two days, the answer came that it was not possible. My conclusions: 1. the software is poor - I managed to review it; it is not worth it - think about it before you look into it. 2. the site was designed to rip off customers (in my case - I used a smartphone browser). 3. the explanation that they can't return the funds is pathetic - everyone knows how it works; if they wanted to, they would do it without a problem. 4. the company does whatever it wants because it's from the US - being European, I have no tools to enforce a refund from them.
Edit: After intervening, the company changed the plan to monthly and refunded the difference in price.

great tool, just needs a bit of fine-tuning
From ad copy to blog drafts, Smodin speeds things up. Occasionally, the tone doesn’t match what I need, but a minor tweak fixes that. Definitely makes writing easier!
wish I found this sooner
Writing emails used to be a hassle. Now? Not so much. Smodin drafts them fast, though sometimes it’s a bit too formal when I need a casual tone. A quick edit fixes it.
This helped me for a proyect
lazy writer’s dream, but
If you need a jumpstart on writing, Smodin is a lifesaver. Research, summaries, rewrites it’s all there. But sometimes it gets stuck in a loop, repeating ideas or making weird sentences. And don’t even try complex topics it fumbles. Great for drafts, but you gotta edit hard.
Unintended Annual Plan Charged
I signed up for what I believed to be a one-month trial or monthly plan on April 15, 2025. However, within less than one minute, my plan was somehow switched to an annual subscription — likely due to a pop-up I accidentally clicked during the sign-up process.
This resulted in an unexpected charge of KRW 262,824 (~$180). As a student, this caused a significant financial burden. I immediately contacted support within the same day, before using any of the services, and also attached clear proof that:
• The monthly and annual payments were made just seconds apart
• The services were never used (0 usage on my dashboard)
• Other users have reportedly been offered partial refunds or downgrades in similar cases
Unfortunately, despite two follow-up messages and a detailed explanation, I was told that no refund or downgrade could be issued due to company policy.
This is extremely disappointing, especially when others have received more flexible solutions.
I’m sharing this review in hopes of receiving fair treatment, and to inform other users to be cautious of this kind of billing process.
Smodin, I sincerely ask you to reconsider a downgrade and partial refund as a one-time exception.

Really shady experience
Really shady experience! Signed up for 24 hours free trial. First suspicious thing was they tried to charge me the full annual subscription when I signed up even though it was a free trial. This was reverted, not sure if by them or my bank. I signed up yesterday evening and by this morning I realised the app did not suit me so I cancelled the service. The moment I hit the cancellation button it charged me in full for the full year. Customer service repeatedly refused to refund me, regardless of the fact that they themselves admitted it’s 24 hours before free trial ends. My trial had only been active a little over 12 hours. They forced me to have to initiate a fraudulent chargeback with my bank and the bank supported this and are arranging the refund. Should not have gotten to that. Very unhappy.

Scam behavior
Leaving a second review — charged $120 for a “free trial”, no refund, no response
I visited your website to explore the free trial version, and at no point did I knowingly agree to a yearly subscription. I signed up expecting a free trial for one day, just to see how the tool works. I never used the service — I simply entered my card details, planning to cancel if I didn’t like it or maybe pay for a 1-month plan.
Instead, I was instantly charged $120 for a full year — with no warning, no confirmation, and nothing on screen that clearly stated this would happen.
I contacted your support team and waited. I left a review. I genuinely hoped for a peaceful resolution.
Still no reply. No refund. Nothing.
This is a deceptive practice. I did not confirm or authorize a yearly payment, nor was the price or duration of the subscription clearly communicated beforehand. When I reached out to your support to request a refund, I was refused — despite never having used the platform meaningfully.
This behavior is not only unethical, it also violates basic principles of transparency and user consent.
I have already reported this transaction to my bank and shared a public review on here to warn others.
Please also consider the context: I am from Ukraine, and $120 is a significant amount — especially during wartime.
If this issue is not resolved promptly, I will continue pursuing it through my bank’s dispute system and relevant consumer protection authorities.
Please confirm the refund and cancel the subscription.
This feels like a trap — not a professional service.

I’m a student and only needed this tool for one month
I never write reviews, but this situation really upset me.
I’m a student and only needed this service for one month.
Due to my limited English, I accidentally purchased the yearly subscription instead of the monthly plan.
I contacted support immediately to explain the situation and asked for a refund of the difference, but they refused – even though I explained everything clearly.
As a student from a European country, this charge financially affected me a lot.
Their response was disappointing and showed no flexibility.
The tool itself is average at best, and this whole experience left a bad impression.
Not the way paying users should be treated when it’s an obvious and honest mistake.

Unethical Practices and Misleading Payment System – Definitely Not Recommended!
I decided to try the Smodin service because it initially appeared to be a reliable platform offering a free trial period. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a completely misleading and untrustworthy service that unethically takes money from customers.
After registering, the system directed me to a payment platform. I believed that this was merely the beginning of a free trial period, with the option to cancel before any payment was charged. To my shock, however, my account was immediately debited for an entire year’s subscription – despite the website misleadingly displaying it as a monthly payment.
At first, my money was refunded, but the very next day, Smodin withdrew it again, which makes absolutely no sense to me. This process is completely non-transparent and feels like a scam.
To make matters worse, the service itself is of extremely poor quality. The text it generates is comparable to something written by an eight-year-old child – completely unusable. I expected at least a basic level of quality, but what Smodin offers is a total disaster.
When I reached out to customer support to resolve my issue, I was informed that their terms do not allow any complaints, refunds, or contract cancellations. I am unsure whether this practice is even legal, especially for customers in the EU.
In addition when I provided examples of other users who had similar experiences and received refunds, their support team simply stopped responding.
Overall, I find Smodin to be an extremely untrustworthy company whose practices border on fraudulent. Their product is of very poor quality, and their payment system is deceptive. If you don’t want to waste your money and time, avoid this service at all costs. I do not recommend it to anyone!
