I am providing this poor review as I have been given no choice by this company, it's my only form of come-back to warn others. I purchased solar window films from Solarshields for my south-east facing flat which becomes unbearably and ridiculously hot when full sun is on it, at any time of year. I was hoping that solar films would reduce even just a bit of solar gain and reduce the temperature inside by a couple of degrees. I wasn't asking for much. But No. The solar films actually made my flat HOTTER! I have weather stations in various rooms and there is no doubt, my flat is HOTTER since the films were installed. Not only that, the company were not remotely interested in helping me resolve this, not giving me any reasonable explanation of why this occurred. I believe the films are actually keeping heat in the flat and not allowing it to escape. The flat doesn't even cool down much at night now. I can't actually believe it. I was doubtful if the films would have any effect, but what I did NOT expect was for the flat to get hotter! I kept being sent blurb by Solarshields on what solar gain is and "how it works", treating me like I'm an idiot and don't understand. Well I DO understand and I'm not thick, but the results speak for themselves. I can FEEL that the flat is hotter, and the weather stations are showing higher temperatures throughout, plus the fact that the flat refuses to cool down overnight properly. The only alternative the company gave me was to buy better solar films! So giving them even more money in other words, with no recompense for the other solar films!
Firstly, I just cannot recommend solar films on your windows at all because you risk your home getting hotter. Invest the money in an air-con system, or buy a couple of mobile air-con units, they are actually pretty good, and will cost roughly the same as the films, or maybe even less.
Secondly, even if you are considering solar films, go to a company that will give you an honest appraisal and some kind of guarantee if they cause more problems. Solar shields will give you none of that. They've given me no choice but to write a bad review because they refuse to deal with this issue in a professional manner. I spent £700 for absolutely nothing, so be very careful before you decide to have solar films, and certainly don't use this company, you'll be abandoned if something goes wrong.
Amazing service, I was after some 3M tinting but was unfortunately told this was discontinued, however Martin at the company said they could see if they an find some off cuts to send me they may have lying around.
A day later and they are on my desk in the morning. Friendly, helpful and with good communication.
Highly recommended.
Our new-build home was reaching (and sustaining for weeks) internal temperatures between 28° and 32° in the summer months, both summers that we have lived here, causing me near-constant headaches and nausea. We decided to have heat-reducing solar film installed on all windows.
We got quotations from several companies but Solarshield was the only one offering an external film (better heat reduction) with a 10 year warranty. They made this process a real pleasure. Daniel was quick to respond to emails, giving practical and unbiased advice when it came to choosing the right film for us.
The installation of Prestige Exterior 70 and 40 on all windows went without a glitch.
Lee and Jack were courteous, utterly professional and very knowledgeable about the product, and its aftercare.
The film will take up to a month to dry out, but is already, in the following week, extremely effective. The kitchen with its east-facing French doors is noticeably cooler in the mornings, and the utility (Prestige Exterior 40) is now so comfortably cool, that the veg I store in the pantry cupboard are having a more normal shelf life! As a bonus, we can raise the blinds fully in the morning without worrying about the clavinova, painted cupboards and carpet fading (that was the least important aspect of the film to us, but we appreciate it more now that it's a reality!). Most importantly, for the first time in this home, I am actually looking forward to summer.
I strongly recommend the product and Solarshield as installers.
