Sparx has ruined my life and the lives of every student at my school.

Sparx has ruined my life.

Once upon a time, I had a flourishing family and a peaceful life. However, it was one fateful day in school where everything changed for the worse. I had just arrived at school and had maths period 1. I wasn't looking forwards to it but little did I know that my life was about to change forever. As soon as I got the classroom, the air seemed to shift around me and a chill ran down my spine. A cool gust breezed past me with the air of death. I walked in. Everyone was sat down motionless. As I sat myself down at the back of the class, the teacher addressed us and quicky informed us about the change in schedule. This change being the introduction of sparx maths. Our school was not the first to fall to the tyranny of sparx maths so I had heard about it from friends outside of school. Seeing that infamous logo plastered upon our board was a terrifying sight to see. I instantly knew that my peaceful life had come to an end. Weeks after that first introduction, life only got worse and worse. I had to spend day after day completing sparx maths in sessions that lasted hours at a time. Most of the stuff which came up in the homework, had never been taught to us by our teacher and the videos that were meant to help us only confused me more and more. It was on the 13th of may when the first incident happened. A young boy had sadly done the unthinkable. I will leave it at that. As time progressed slower and slower, more people dropped around us. Loosing friends on a regular basis was demoralizing to witness. Not only that, but people were becoming sleep deprived since in order to keep up with the copious amount of treacherous confusing homework people had to sacrafice hours of their own sleep. School time merged into hometime and eventually the world became one great cycle. However, the end was near, and the summer holidays will soon gracefuly shower liberty down onto the few remaining students. Thats what we all thought. Thats what you would have thought too is it not? However, on the final day of term. The school announced their final announcement before we broke up for the holidays. The mood in the hall was at an all time high knowing that we would all soon be freed like birds from cages and free to go our own ways as the warm rays of the summer sunshine shone onto our relieved souls. The school's final note was that sparx maths should be continued throughout the holidays with xp boost and target questions having to be completed to 100%. It would be an underexaduration to say that people were mortified. The room was filled with an empty silence and I felt a sudden sinking feeling deep inside my body. The loop will continue. The suffering will continue. The treachery will continue. So as I sulked home after that fateful last day of term so sit myself down once again to work at my sparx maths once again and draw myself through agony once again. In the holidays, I became distant from the rest of my family. I no longer spoke to them, I no longer laughed with them, I only went downstairs to snatch morsels of food at breakfast and dinner to try and keep pushing myself through what felt like a tunnel with no ending. I barley even noticed when they moved out. They had changed numbers. Everyone. Including my beloved mother, my cheerful father, my energetic brother and even my cat had left me for eternity. Never to come back again. My life has become a slave to sparx maths. I am forced against my will to spend hours of my time doing something that I believe will have very little influence on the rest of my life. It is here that I conclude my sad story, as someone who has gone through everything but also nothing at the same time. Someone who has been driven to the verge of insanity many times, and someone who has been forced into an endless circle of never-ending meaningless work.

How do I describe such a horrible…

How do I describe such a horrible experience? Never in my life have I ever been so distraught by an app. From the moment I opened the app I felt a sense of dread wash through me. Yet I progressed and signed up for the app. Then I saw the first question and my heart dropped. And soon enough I felt the shell shock over come me. Never again.

don't use it

It was a cold December evening and I stumbled into my maths lesson unconscious of what was going to happen. I remember my teacher saying we have a computer room with a smile on her face. I naively followed her with hope still left in my body. Little did I know this was the last moment of happiness I can recollect. My teacher said that we were trying out a new, "fun" website named sparx maths. It was supposedly a "brilliant, educational app that boosts grades" but I now know that this is a lie. After my first week of having to endure it as homework, I realised my life was ruined forever. After the first bookwork check I could remember the look on my dads face as he watched me smash the computer. It was the first time he cried in years. Not because of the computer but because of the look of despair on my face.
