I have had the Sparrow Mastercard for about six months. It has an annual fee of $59.00 and that's it for fees. I got a $1000 credit line which was generous enough, being as though my credit rating at the time was barely out of "poor" and into the "fair" category. The cash advance amount is a generous $500, and I can get it all at once instead of part of it spread out over several days like a couple of my other cards. The interest rate on purchases is 29.49 and for cash advances, it's 31.49% currently, which is a few points lower than some of my other cards. You're allowed to make payments by using your bank debit card with no accompanying fee which is great, and the payment posts to my online banking right away, which I like. I like using the card. It's a keeper!

I signed up for Sparrow because their marketing says they guide the “overlooked and underserved” toward financial freedom. I was approved for a $300 limit.

In my experience, once I was late paying (even by a day or two), I was hit with late fees and interest, and my balance grew quickly. My $300 turned into $500+, and it became harder to catch up as fees stacked.

I’m sharing this so others who are rebuilding their credit can be cautious and read the fine print before applying.
