Poor customer service. Deceptive online pictures.
I ordered (my first purchase at Spartina) a $149.00 sweater and paid almost $10.00 for shipping. The online picture of the sweater showed it had a light pink background. When it arrived the background was brown. I called customer service and they insisted their picture showed a brown background, and to return it would be another almost $10.00 restocking fee. So for $20 I got nothing. I will never, NEVER order from this company again.
Love the designs but will no longer buy Spartina bags. The handles are cheap and peel very quickly making the bag unusable. Expect so much more for the cost. Needs real leather handles/trim.
I bought a lovely stitched spring handbag and within a year the "leather" handles have come apart at the seams and cannot be replaced because they're sewn into the purse. Their quality has gone down over the years!
This company does not stand by their product. I had bought a Spartina, 449 larger bag, and after less than 30 days it started to peel. I wanted to take it back. They told me it had been 40 days and they have a strict 30 day role. I feel sorry for anyone who buys from them because they do not care about their customers
They charge a $9.95 restocking fee on all returns which is not disclosed at the time of purchase and that is in addition to the cost of return shipping. They actually tried to use the discount that is given to all new customers as justification for charging me $20 restocking for the two items I returned. Ignored the lack of disclosure of their policy at time of purchase being the real issue.
Happy to receive a pretty Spartina handbag as a gift. However, I soon noticed fraying on the purse handle and the plastic skin on the trim started to separate from the faux leather backing, I could peel the plastic off in sheets and now it is useless to me. Very disappointed in the quality of this item and will not be purchasing a replacement.
After several Spartina 449 orders over the last years, on my last advance order - and coming from Germany - soon after I arrived in Texas I opened the order and inquired just 1-2 days past their 30-day return window about returning 2 items (total value ca. $150 before tax).
Even after I paid $38 for shipping the 2 items back to Spartina 449, their Customer Service/Support dept. says they will refuse my return, and not refund but return to shipper.
When purchasing, please be aware of the following: NO price adjustments can be made if you use any type of promo code initially. In other words, you’re better off purchasing full price and hoping the item drops in price shortly after so you can then take the extra step of calling for an adjustment. As far as free shipping, you have to spend at least $150 to obtain it. If ever returning, also note: “Initial shipping charge will not be refunded. There is also a restocking fee of $8.95 for any number of items returned and will be deducted from your refund. All purchases made on Spartina449.com can only be returned online and refunded by the original payment method or web credit. Online orders cannot be returned to Spartina 449 stores.”
The customer service team is a small group that will not escalate any complaints to upper management or transfer the call, simply stating they strictly adhere to their policy and there are no exceptions, whether it’s a first time order or a repeat customer. In my case, they would rather lose a loyal customer than apply a small percentage adjustment before the item even shipped. Months later, they’re still selling the item and now at >50% off. Buyer beware!
The handles on my Spartina handbag have literally fallen apart. I took the handbag to the shoe/luggage repairman and was told the item could not be repaired, that the binding on the edges of the handle broke down and there wasn’t any glue to keep the handle together.
This is the second bag I have from Spartina that has had issues with the handle. Other than the handle, the handbag is in excellent condition.
I contacted Spartina to see if I could send the purse to them for repair (which I would have gladly paid for). I was told that their purses are made overseas and that they do not have a repair facility nor do they have anyway to get the item repaired. I was told to go online and look for a replacement handle. This is not possible as the handle is actually sewn onto the purse.
I have purchased clothing, shoes, jewelry, and purses from Spartina. Needless to say, I will not purchase another item from this company. They do not stand behind their product and offer no assistance.
I first purchased some earrings at Belk several years ago. I was told Belk doesn’t sell the brand now. I can see why. I ordered an amazonite necklace and earrings plus two other sets of earrings and wasted my money. The amazonite earrings are garbage and made in China. No information on the necklace. Very very disappointed and will not waste any morw hard-earned money on local businesses like this.
I still have not received my suitcases that I ordered two weeks ago. I mistakenly had them to my DE home and immediately contacted customer service to request it be shipped to my FL home. Spartina charged me the FedEx fee to reroute the package. My request was not handled and the suitcases were delivered to DE. Again I contacted customer service and asked that they initiate. FedEx pickup, which they reluctantly agreed to do.
Customer service agents were slow to respond and when said they took action, it was a failure. They don’t share an email box for customer service, so when one person is out of the office requests sit in their email box unanswered. I’ll never buy anything direct from Spartina again. I love the products, but the customer service is horrible. I’ll only buy from retailers in the future.
If my suitcases don’t arrive in the next few days I’ll dispute the charge with Visa because I have no patience with what Spartina customer dis-service!
I really like the clothing and accessories but the return policy is not customer centric and customer service is very poor. I returned 2 items using the provided return label and original box. They charge for return postage to do the return but that wasn’t my biggest issue, my biggest issue is that two weeks after I sent the return I had heard nothing. I contacted the company and they said they had no record of my return. They said I needed to provide the tracking information, I explained that I used their label but that meant nothing, they said they have no record of the labels. Thankfully I was able to track down the FedEx number from a text message when I dropped it off at FedEx and the tracking said Spartina449 had received my return 2 weeks prior. After I provided the proof of delivery and another few days of back and forth they said it was in the system and they would request the refund. No apology, no explanation, no confirmation of the credit ever. Really makes me rethink my choice to shop here.
Always happy with their clothing, although on the pricey side.l and I wish they offered a few things like free shipping for purchases closer to my price point (you have to spend $150 for free shipping) and if you want to do a exchange you have to do a return and reorder… would be nice to just do an exchange.
The quality is definitely there… you must really measure yourself… I am 123 and 5’6 and wear a large in some of their dresses, but a small in their maren pants…. So you do end up truly using their size charts.
