Was interested in one of their bikes, but when I enquired it was £9499 later that day the price increased to £9999, would be cautious with this bike dealer.

I bought a Yamaha fjr 1300 from speed which was ready to collect on the day they said even though I asked for it to be rushed through due to us needing a replacement bike asap for my booked holiday, the staff were great and the handover was brilliant thanks to Shane for his help will recommend speed bikes and would use again.

Totally incompetent

z1B
I bought a fully restored Z1B the description is still on their YouTube. When I looked at the bike it was misfiring & popping back through the exhaust.

Shane the salesman said don’t worry it will go through the workshop before delivery. When it was delivered it was still doing it. Shane said take it somewhere locally. I did & they said it was running rich and changed the pilot jets & emulsion tubes.

This improved it but they said there was still a problem as it was still rich & the needles were on the lowest setting. At this point Shane said he would collect it and sort it out in their workshop.

They picked it up 17th June with 230 miles on the clock , which was reset when fully restored.I had quite a few conversations but it seemed they were getting nowhere with it.

Then Graeme the owner got involved. That’s when it went bad all he kept saying was well at the end of the day it’s a 50 yr old bike. It’s modern fuels. It came from a different climate. It came back to me 30th August with 700 miles on the clock. They’d added
nearly 500 miles and it was filthy. He’d basically ridden around for about 20 hrs. The delivery guy said with these old bikes you need to start without choke. Which straight away tells even a real novice it’s running rich.

It eventually starts running then as it warmed up it smelled rich then stalled. He started it again and it stalled 3 times. I said would you be happy with a £14500.00 bike running like that. He shrugged his shoulders and looked at the ground. I think he was embarrassed. He said do you want me to take it back. I said there’s no point as you’ve clearly not got the required skills to fix the bike which is pretty basic 50year old technology.

I was recommended to a mobile guy who said unless it’s something major,I’ll come to you in the morning & you will be riding it in the afternoon. He turned up, first thing he checked was the valve clearances these were too tight. Then he checked the valve timing this was one tooth out. He then checked the ignition timing, points gap too wide & ignition timing too advanced. He then removed the carburettors replaced the needles & needle jets also the choke plungers.

All this was apparently checked adjusted or replaced at Speed Superbikes. I have this on email from Graeme see pictures below of choke plunger. True to his word at 3pm I rode it & it rode perfectly like it had just come out of the factory.

How come this guy did in 6 hours what they couldn’t do in 3 months. Also didn’t put any miles on it. Maybe I should let Graeme ride it as he clearly either has no idea how a bike should ride or he thinks if he keeps making things up eventually you will just accept it.

If you buy a bike from these people get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing as these guys haven’t a clue. Shane did send me an email offering to take the bike back & carry on trying to repair it or refund the purchase price.

In the end I accepted a partial refund as I wanted to keep the bike. Although this didn’t cover the cost of the repairs or the excess mileage, I accepted it because I wanted the bike and didn’t want to waste any more time with them.

Falsified MOT

Edit. The garage did not reimburse me for unnecessary service. And called me to 'suggest' they were disappointed in my review as accusing them of falsifying an MOT could cause them issed. So they've asked me to change my review to stop them having issues. So I have, you've now got 1 star 👎

Bought in July 2023

MOT done September 2023 - advisory Drive chain worn but not considered excessive. same for the 2 previous MOT's. Bike was MOT'd before I purchased and no advisories. I thought brilliant, obviously replaced chain/sprockets and all should run great. 6 months later and 1600 miles down the road and I've had to take out chain slack a dozen times bike dropping gears and losing rev's. I booked to my local bike garage for service as I wasn't happy with how it should be running, and get told the sprocket set is so worn it never would have passed an MOT and needs replacing ASAP, loose chain and sprocket teeth chipped and breaking. there is no way 1600 miles has worn a new set so they clearly faked the MOT to get it sold.

during this time, I had spoken to Speed and they played it off that they would have checked it before sale, and questioned the milage I'd done and that i had sufficiently lubed it. They did say they would reimburse me for the cost of a chain?

After spending £80 on a service I shouldn’t have needed, and then having to re-book to have the repairs done leaving me without a bike as it was not safe to ride it was all very disappointing.

However, despite the faults above, true to their word, they did call my garage and pay for the new sprocket & Chain and the labour cost, and the bike is running better than ever, however this doesn’t excuse the fact that the MOT was falsified to make a sale.

I purchased a second hand 2010 plate…

I purchased a second hand 2010 plate Ducati Multistrada 1200s in May. After some gentle haggling- we agreed a reasonable trade in price for mine (I checked that was the going rate). Whilst the bike I bought was 14 years old, it looks nearly new, and came with belt, desmo service and 3 months warranty (hopefully i'll not need) all for £5500. Their bikes are clean, with good tyres and well maintained chains ect., for me these basic matter with second hand bikes. The sale man I dealt with was very friendly and genuinely seemed happy that I was excited with my new Ducati. I've rode it loads in the last week, and i'm over the moon with it. So far best bike purchase- i've ever made, and i've had over a dozen second hand bikes over the last 30. years.

Honda rebel

I visited Speed Superbikes on 06/04/24, as I was interested in one the machines they had for sale. I was assisted in my enquiry by Mark, who was a gentleman throughout, and gave me useful advice, but no pressure at all. I was very impressed by both the bike and Mark’s manner, and later contacted him to arrange to leave a deposit. On further consideration, I changed my mind, nothing at all wrong with the bike, it was just that I hadn’t done my research properly, and the bike didn’t have the exact features that I was looking for. As I say, this was down to my own inexperience, and nothing to do with either the bike or the service. I contacted Mark, who refunded my deposit, and was very helpful despite me not completing the purchase. I’m actually quite sorry that it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, as I feel I would have been very confident in making a purchase from them. Thank you to Mark and the team. I hope I’ll be able to get back to you in future should the right machine for me turn up

Poor customer service

Travelled 180 miles for pre-arranged bike viewing, to be met by brusque and indifferent salesman Paul Witherford. Poor customer service. Sale lost.

Feeling utterly ripped off and let down by Speeds Superbikes Exeter.Gave me £5000 for my bike.I was made to pay £400 toward a bike in part exchange of £5400.They now have the bike i had for sale at £7300! So with the £2300 mark up and £400 from me thats a big kick in the teeth as i could have had a much better deal...Yes i've been a mug to myself and to trusting. As they told me the value of the bike i put in part exchange at £2000 less than they now have it on sale.

Great sales and aftercare

Very helpful when buying the bike. Can't fault it. Had an issue with a very old bike I bought and they are sorting it under warranty with no issues. Excellent sales and excellent after service. Can't fault them. Will be using them from now on.

Don't expect any MOT leniency

One of those places where MOT standards appear to be applied very rigorously if they don't like your face but less onerously for bikes they sell. My own bike failed for being too loud, although it had passed the year before in exactly the same condition and despite someone in their service department telling me a few days afterwards that technically a bike can't be failed as there is no measurement standard. They also had bikes in the showroom with exactly the same model exhaust, which I was assured would pass an MOT. It also failed on other items which was fair enough and I have corrected them, but the new quiet baffles cost £180 and 6 hours of effort and seem to have been an unnecessary expense according to the Harley dealer I spoke to today.

I do apologise for paying

Bought a motorcycle from these guys and was given additional mug, keyring and neck tube which was a nice touch.

The original salesman very accommodating and pleasant. I spoke to there engineer / mechanic who was also extremely pleasant discussing what I wanted doing to the bike for collection.

If I hadn't already insured the bike I would have asked for my deposit back and left. The chap taking final payment got a little "shirty" as was paying balance in cash. I am aware it is not the best with covid. I didn't have the funds in the bank. However the chap seemed more concerned about fees from the bank. I am sure there are fees involved with card payments too . Pardon me for trying to pay for my motorcycle if it was mentioned on arrangement I could have paid by card
.
Purely because of these comments more so the tone of them I took the rest of my cash down the road to bridge motorcycle, who were pleased to accept it, - where I bought a new helmet gloves and jacket.
hopefully I won't have to claim off the warranty as I do not wish to frequent this dealership again !
two stars may be harsh but so were the shirty comments.

Speedthrills, a cracking bike shop

I was given a steer to check out Speedthrills for good offers on bikes. I checked out their website, saw a number of great bikes at low mileage for age, all in good condition and at a great price - I couldn’t believe my luck! When I got to the showroom the staff were all really friendly and gave me space to have a good look around without the pestering you get at some bike showrooms. When I asked for some help they obliged giving me sound info on the bikes I was looking at and based on my riding experience, what would be more suitable to save me px’ing later for something with a bit more poke! They were really helpful and needless to say 24hrs later I had put a deposit down on a cracking VTR1000 and picked it up that weekend. Great service, helpful staff and would definitely recommend to anyone - thanks Speedthrills!

Top customer service

Bought a bike from these guys 3 months ago with a 3 month warranty.
3 months and 4 days later I lost all front lights. I called speedy up and they fixed the bike no charge.
1 week later I lost all power to the bike, waited two and a half long hours for the AA to relay me to Speedy to drop my bike to them.At this point as you can understand I was really miffed with the whole situation and ready for a confrontation , well "oh my days" they took the bike in no probs, they said they would fix the bike on warranty, no probs, and could only apologise for the whole situation. Fantastistic, shouldn't take long.
Two weeks later not happy as they still had my bike, spoke to the guys and was told that parts were on back order and would take 2 weeks , omg.
BUT we would like to offer you a curtesy bike while we fix the bike.
To there word they did this and more so I can only say what a fantastic company, I will defiantly use them again and highly recommend then.

10 out of 5 guys thanks
