An organisation not fit for purpose.

I have had to leave one star as it is the minimum rating but I don't think they deserve one star. I have been chasing a shortfall in a compensation payment since September 22. Eventually Sscl admitted they made a mistake in September 23. After having to advise their staff over the last year on the issue I have raised, as most of them it would appear either lack the necessary training and knowledge to deal with it or just didn't care I have reached an impasse. Sscl asked me to request the the Civil service pension scheme to request updated figures of my salary. This I did. CSP have refused to do this until they get a request from Sscl. Sscl refuse to contact CSP as they don't do this! I will now take this up through my MP, courts and press as necessary. I think I now know how Sscl have saved the government 400 million pounds since 2013.

Just utter dogs***

What an appalling company. I have been underpaid since September 22 and I'm still having to chase. I get all sorts of ridiculous answers which basically boils down to the fact that the staff are useless and can't be bothered to do their jobs properly. I've had very little help from my employer despite it being their responsibility to ensure I'm paid correctly, no wonder their staff leave in droves, the service is a shambles. I have referred this now to ACAS and will gladly take this to a tribunal. Also had to leave star to be able to leave this review.

If there were 0 stars I would have given them that. Every month I have to chase payments. They claim that the clients haven't authorised payments when they did, having to keep chasing clients to get in touch with SSCL to release the payments. Absolutely shocking!!!

You destroyed everything

After a year of training, staying fit. Taking holidays to attend interviews, driving to Leeds to do assessments. SSCL have now taken my application from the job offer stage to “Thanks for your time but you missed a form out and we can no longer continue with your application”

They as a company should not hold people’s careers in their hands.

I have been so polite and I know the people at the end of the phone have zero power but they have really slowed down and potentially messed up my career. It’s sad to say how much effort I’ve wasted over the last year to do something I was so excited about.

You should be ashamed.

I’m gutted.

Appalling treatment

SSCL have messed and and underpaid me for almost two years. Each month I chase and each month I get fobbed off with how busy they are. My case was supposedly escalated six months ago and to date I still have had no direct correspondence from the team. Incorrect changes are continually being applied without any communication. Last month's debacle left me without funds to buy food. Simply not good enough.

SSCL is a disgrace.

SSCL is a disgrace and part of the reason im leaving my role. Incompetent doesn’t come close to describing this circus. These abhorrent and gutless maggots don't care about the consequences of their ill performance. Staff are required to fill in time sheets to aid SSCL, yet they fail to execute their minor responsibilities with routine accuracy without any cause, therefore staff suffer the consequences of underpayment. Some staff clearly failed the reading test as it seems they frequently miss the point of emails / communication and reply with irrelevant information. The poor and inadequate staffing / training is evident with the quality of service provided. People of this quality should not be handling payroll. Personally, im embarrassed to be associated with these clowns and will be raising my concerns across all possible outlets.

I have tried 2 times to do my online…

I have tried 2 times to do my online half day test for P.O. it did not work both times.. I wrote a review at the end stating this. A few days later I got an email asking why I did not attend.. I explained what happened, then I received an email stating my application had been withdrawn as I did not attend.. its a joke.. why can't face to face be done now the pandemic is over.

An absolute disgrace

Why is nothing being done about this disgrace of an organisation?
Received a letter telling me they overpaid me by £500 when I worked for the probation service (which I left 9 months ago), with threats that I needed to contact them and arrange repayment or there would be legal consequences. I have been unable to reach them by phone or email despite repeated attempts.
I'm now questioning the legitimacy of the letter and possibly this service. Messing up people financially in this way and making it impossible to rectify, this company needs to be investigated and hopefully shut down.

Terrible service

Like most of the other reviews, the first point of contact service is terrible if not abysmal. Applied for a position last August, offered position in October, dependent upon security clearance (although due to my current role, I already have a a specific level of clearance). After repeated efforts I am still awaiting clearance, very disappointed as this was my dream job but sadly as I am no further forward, and the lack of response from all parties has left me feeling very frustrated. It is not worth the stress. Avoid Sscl, as they are not person-centred and you feel like you are just a commodity.

The worst company ever

The worst company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with! They messed up my P45 and end of service pay when I moved jobs and I have been paying the wrong tax for over 8 months with no apology from SSCL just excuse after excuses. No concern for the financial hardship incurred from their errors.

Shocking process, appalling customer service

Hi, my partner has applied and been accepted for position with the probation services. pending clearance / checks, which is where it all falls apart.
despite her new line manager chasing some answers and my partner calling 3 times a week, she is no further forward than she was over 6 weeks ago. she understands that it could take 18 weeks (which in itself is ridiculous) there is no explanation, no feedback, no answers, and absolutely no respect !!! awaiting a decision is the only answer she receives.
Appalling service, appalling process's, virtually no thought towards the applicant leaving them wondering why they bothered in the first place. Shocking !!

Totally incompetent! Stone Age web portal.

I have now been trying for nearly six months to get a vetting application sorted. WARNING TO ALL links sent to APPLE mail servers don't always work, SSCL insist they have sent link, you don't get it.
Then there is the work history page, which will not save (this applies regardless of operating system). The fix is to submit your CV info as a PDF (they don't take spreadsheets) in your 'Right to work' upload and complete an employment section with dates that span the five years (so that it saves) and tell them so in the employment box.
Finally, the laughably titled 'Customer Service' phone service, which operates on the principle that if you give enough Monkeys Typewriters (ok word processors) you will end up with the complete works of William Shakespeare. To date, they have not done anything they have said they would do.
I think they may be owned by a water company.

SSCL demanding money with menaces for THREE YEARS

I moved within government departments work both payrolls managed by SSCL. Somehow my first month was played by the wrong department and SSCL's same and rational response was to try and charge me the money. According to their demands I should have worked a month for free, and repaid the half of my performance bonus they'd actually paid me. It took literally three years to resolve this, because I kept having to call them and explain the whole complex situation to a new person from scratch, every interaction I had seemed to reset the confusion back to the starting point, they never called me or wrote back leaving me to chase, and never put anything in writing. And every time I was told the matter was resolved, they were to me a few months later with a new demand.
In the end I made a freedom of information request just to try and get the information they were using to calculate the demands they made in writing.
They missed the FoI deadline and I had to resort them to the ICO.
Once things genuinely were resolved, SSCL laid low only to hit me with another demand 1.5 years later in the middle of lockdown. After much chasing and anxiety attacks, it turned out they actually meant to email someone else entirely. I guess threatening me for money with menaces was just such a Pavlovian response at this point.
The reason I was promoted to write this review was because I just started at a new govt department. Imagine my sinking heart as I saw SSCL still do their payroll...

Horrendous

Horrendous. Quite what these people do I do not know. They have lost my application, they have promised me numerous times to call me and email me which never ever happens then when you ring them to chase things up you get told to patiently wait. Absolutely useless service and I now understand why prison officer recruitment is such a mess.

Absolutely terrible vetting application…

Absolutely terrible vetting application form when it comes to employment history. I've wasted over 8 hours completing this section and still it doesn't save. I tried to contact SSCL to be sent to an overflow line. The person I spoke with on the overflow line advised someone may get back in 5 working days! There is no complaints email addresses for SSCL. You would expected something far more provisional and reliable considering what they do. Deeply disappointed and this delay will affect my student placement as a counsellor.

Impossible to contact

Impossible to contact, you used to be able to phone up and actually talk to someone. I've been trying for 3 hours to find any sort of number for HR. Impossible! it's like they don't want to do any work so they make it difficult to contact them.
