Launched in March 2020, Steel FM has been broadcasting on the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week supplying local and national news, local sport, local information, mixed with music and light-hearted chat to the whole of Scunthorpe, Ashby, Winterton, Brigg, Kirton in Lindsey and the the whole of North Lincolnshire. Steel FM is manned by volunteers that give their time and skills to make everything work, from answering the telephone, administration work and been on air presenting a radio show. All new volunteers receive training with an opportunity to produce and present their own weekly radio show. A chance for them to develop their own skills and actively engage in their community to make positive changes. Steel FM works with people from the local community which includes Scunthorpe and North Lincolnshire. People from all walks of life get involved with the station, from the unemployed, pensioners, disabled, single parents, young people, people from BME backgrounds and various community groups, across the whole community. They find when people volunteer at the station, they are often unemployed with low levels of aspiration, very little academic achievement and no confidence. Through volunteering at the station, we help to raise people's self-esteem, build their confidence and develop their transferable work-based skills, which helps them back into employment. With Steel FM been a community radio station they rely on donations and sponsorship to do do the good work that they do for the local communities, and it would be great if you can help them with some support. As an example of how they help the local community, Spar on Brumby corner in Scunthorpe were doing a karaoke thing last year on Saturday's, Steel FM helped them promote it on air. See more
