Worthless company. Raised millions of dollars in crowdfunding and has ghosted every backer in every campaign. They are either terrible at their jobs or going bankrupt and won't tell anyone.

Poor Customer Service

Received the boardgame with missing accessories.
Half years later, I still don't know when I can receive them.
Also, it is really hard to get the feedback from customer service.

Received a wrong order and I don't know where my goods are.

I placed an order 8 days ago.
I had to ask customer service about the status and was told it would be shipped.
A few days later I get a tracking, but yesterday I am contacted by logistics? I have no idea who contacted me, who informed me that the package I will receive has incorrect goods (do they notice 8 days later?), and that my goods will be sent in a generic "soon" I write to customer service and I don't get answer.
Today I receive the package and the goods are not only wrong but have nothing to do with what I ordered (miniatures).

To date still no response.

Great experience with the VIP-shop

While backing the Horizon Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion kickstarter, Steamforged Games opened up a VIP shop on their website offering the previous Horizon Zero Dawn Boardgame. The core game and regular expansions were at a 40% discount, and for two Kickstarter-exclusive expansions the remainder of their stock was up for sale at its normal pricing.

While I missed out on one the Heart of the Nora expansion, I managed to secure one in the second round of offering after redistribution of the remaining stock after a number were still left in one of the hubs.

While quite a few people were still left without a copy of this, and perhaps SFG could have been more transparent about their proceedings, the company cannot be expected to make a loss on a reprint if they would not be able to sell the needed amount of copies to justify a Reprint.

I am not against a reprint, since I did not manage to get this expansion during the original Kickstarter campaign, or the opening of the Vault store for which they did do a reprint, but I do not expect a commercial company tomake a loss just to satisfy a couple of customers.

I am currently still awaiting the delivery of the Herat of the Nora expansion, but once it does, I will have my Horizon Zero Dawn collection complte.

Not worth supporting this company

I recently got burned by SFG and wanted to get my 2 cents out there.

The games I've played of theirs are mediocre at best. I was content to enjoy them for what they were because they weren't terrible and I liked being able to play tabletop versions of some of my favorite games, but the bottom line is that for any game they've made there is probably a better game out there made by a better company. For instance, the first game I got of SFG's was the Dark Souls board game. Later, CMON released Bloodborne as a board game, and honestly it blows the Dark Souls board game out of the water. I can't comment on the revised version of Dark Souls, but I have almost no desire to continue supporting SFG so I won't be getting it regardless. Throwing hundreds more dollars for a revised version of a game I already bought isn't something I would mind too bad except that, as I already mentioned, I simply do not want to support SFG any more.

More recently, the Monster Hunter World board game released. This is where my biggest complaints lie now. As a game it's better than Dark Souls was, but it's still a pretty flawed experience and I'm going to need to house-rule quite a few things to make it more enjoyable overall. To point to a similar game that is immediately much better, however, Primal: The Awakening just released, and now after having jammed a fair few games of both of these games I can say pretty easily that Primal is much better. I think the only "advantage" Monster Hunter World has over it is the number of characters/weapons available to play as, but the core gameplay easily goes to Primal. If you can only get one, I would recommend Primal.

Now as for my actual complaint--because it's not necessarily specifically about the quality of the game itself. SFG had to make an errata to many (and I mean *many*) of the cards and boards in the game as well as the core rules themselves. They offered this for free to those that kickstarted the game (as later releases weren't affected), but they communicated this very, very poorly. Simply put, rather than sending out a more direct form of communication, they merely mentioned that they were doing this in a handful of newsletters that came after the release and shipment of the game, some of which were for the newer Iceborne game they were beginning a kickstarter for. If you happened to be continuing to read these then you were golden, but for someone like myself who only really glances at newsletters occasionally when I'm curious about how far along things are it meant that I didn't even know about the erratas that were being offered until after the deadline to request them. I contacted SFG about this and was basically told "too bad, we won't do anything for you, but there are some PDFs on our website." If it were just a couple of cards or something then whatever, but again, it's a bit more than that. It's 19 of the regular cards, core rules revisions, and it seems like *all* of the oversized crafting boards for each of the weapons (of which there are 14). Major game components are affected.

Throwing out one more less major gripe, their miniature quality is still not great. Many of the models came broken for a large number of people. It's mostly models being broken off of their bases (which is much easier to fix and less of a problem than issues there have been in the past for other games), but it's still a notable issue. To throw the comparison out there again, I kickstarted Primal and absolutely none of the models came broken, and there were way more of them too.

In summary, not only are their games mediocre (which is forgivable) and their component quality questionable, but their customer service absolutely sucks. Major issues shipped with a game that they (to their credit) did offer a solution for, but one which was very poorly communicated and only offered for a limited window of time. They knew and had contact information for all of their kickstarter backers, they could have easily sent out a more clear and direct communication about the issue but instead opted to simply throw it into a newsletter. Their response to anyone that missed the window is extremely uncharitable as well, given the circumstances--it's worth mentioning that anyone who was a full-backer (like myself) would have thrown several hundred dollars at this game already and are now being told to kick-rocks. Their lackluster game quality combined with what is in my opinion extremely poor customer service leave me with almost no desire to ever do business with them again. I simply wanted to put this out there to caution others that, as a company, SFG isn't exactly good at pretty much anything, and there are much better companies (both in terms of game quality and customer service) that you can spend your money supporting.

Missing items in two consecutive orders

Before Brexit this was a really good board game store on all fronts (games, web page, instructions, shipping quality and time, customer support, prices, discounts, shipping cost, ...).

Now the last few years the quality has dropped significantly (e.g. mistakes in game rules). My last order had a mistake in the factory (one item was packed twice, which resulted another item to be missing). I got a reply from customer support (took weeks though) but no item or refund (I have waited more than four months). My previous order had a similar problem (not a mistake by SFG itself but the factory they use to produce the games) but then I got a replacement, but had to pay additional customs cost as the replacement wasn’t sent from the UK which is now outside the EU.

As a EU citizen I just can't use this UK store anymore. There seems to be a problem in every order and then it's also impossible to get fixed.

Additional problems are caused by SFG themself as there seems to be zero quality assurance. No one reads the cards, rules or basically any text they produce for their games. It's still possible to play as you have your own fixes to the texts and SFG has produced some erratas by themselves also. But missing some actual physical items kinda makes playing the game impossible.

Orders do not get shipped

Orders do not get shipped for more than a month, inquiries about order status and cancellation requests just do not get answered, or only receive a "I will get back to you asap", with no response afterwards.

Edit: shortly after this review, I received an answer to both my inquiries. Coincidence? Maybe. Still took them weeks to answer my refund request, let's see how long the refund takes.

Not far from ideal, though shipping proved to be an issue

Long story short, I preordered a board game core package and later an expansion for the board game, but never received my first shipment. My first order was marked 'completed' at steamforged, but I never got a shipment notification from the delivery, so it's possibly not their fault.
I contacted steamforged customer service and after a few days I contacted steamforged on discord. Customer service took about 2 weeks to reply and didn't really answer anything from my support inquiry, but I was helped out by 'Caz' through discord who nagged the customer support department. In the end I got a refund for the first product and have been able to purchase it in my home country.

'Caz' really helped me out and seemed very understanding in the process though I might have seemed a bit frustrated and as a result I'm not done purchasing from Steamforged, my only wish is that once a order is confirmed done by Steamforged that I get a tracking ID ASAP or at the very least know that the package has been sent for delivery. On my second order I got the tracking ID a day or 2 after the confirmation : )

Thank you for refunding the first product and for shipping my second product in good condition!

Preordered a board game from them but…

Preordered a board game from them but had to cancel it. I was told I would be refunded but the money has not shown up. Been chasing them for nearly 4 months for my money back. Was getting a “we are looking into it reply” every couple of weeks when they finally responded to my emails. Now it’s been 5 weeks and no response at all. Do not bother trying to get any kind of customer service from this company it basically doesn’t exist. Now left with no money or board game, not impressed and certainly won’t be buying into any of there future projects

Failure to Respond Among Other Things

I ordered the Dark Souls: Roleplaying Game Collector's Edition book. I waited nearly a month before reaching out to them; from February 27th, to somewhere around March 14th. I had not received the email containing the PDF, which was meant to confirm my order had been shipped. I have been fighting with them for a refund or update since. However they had the gall to ask for a review on a product I never received.

I ended up contacting my bank, and alerting them that I have been unable to contact Steamforged Games in a meaningful capacity regarding my order, or a refund.

Yesterday, April 5th, 2023, I received an email, stating that the book is listed as Shipped as of March 1st; it is currently April 6th, and I have no PDF, nor do I have the book in hand in order to even confirm that I have received the product.

They are stating that if I can return the book to them, I can receive a refund; a book that I do not have, nor expect at this point to receive. I will be keeping in contact with my bank regarding this information, and will spread word that Steamforged Games cannot be relied upon AT ALL for any amount of meaningful customer service.
