Disappointing Stay and Customer Service

We stayed the weekend before COVID restrictions were due to be lifted. We expected the shower blocks to be closed but was expecting simple facilities such as toilets and dish washing to be available.

We booked our stay around 3 days prior to arriving. The confirmation email stated that further information would be provided prior to our arrival. No such information was provided.

We arrived at the site after a long drive at around 6:30pm. We were surprised to find that reception was closed and there was nobody around. Luckily we had phoned to ask for two pitches next to each other as we were travelling as two parties. We were given the pitch numbers over the phone so were able to drive around the site and eventually find our pitches.

We were disappointed to find that no facilities were open. The bar was closed, the takeaway was about to close and there was nothing to do on site. We were even more disappointed to find that the toilets were closed along with dish washing facilities and anything that was inside. Having stayed in many campsites over the past few weeks, there is absolutely no reason this should have been the case. The only government restrictions in place were for showers to remain closed.

We paid £29 for one night in a campervan. Most sites we stay at around Devon and Cornwall charge half of this and have better facilities, even with COVID restrictions in place.

I did contact the park to share my experience and received a fairly corporate reply. They stated that the bar is open until 10pm but this was not the case for us. They also said that a screen is outside of reception showing pitch details for late arrivals but we saw no such screen.

I appreciate that these are difficult times for hospitality but a bit more customer service and maybe even a gesture of goodwill would have gone a long way.

The park did hope that my next stay would be more enjoyable but needless to say I will not be spending another £29 to find out.

Excellent Staff

I have been going to Stowford Farm Meadows for many years now and have had nothing but excellent holidays at this Touring campsite. The reception staff and the staff around site are polite and very helpful especially Clare who I have been dealing with recently regarding my Caravan Insurance and service enquiries. I would recommend this site to any Family that is looking for a good value holiday.

Fantastic and great site!

Fantastic and great site!

It's a huge campsite with lots of facilities but doesn't feel like it. Even on a bank holiday when it was probably full it didn't seem be to busy and staff always had time for you.

Food could be better, pizza was a bit rubbery.

Beautiful site but money making at every opportunity

The campsite itself is beautiful and could not be cleaner or more pleasant aesthetically. However the staff are not friendly or welcoming and I found the reception staff to border on rude. The air hockey takes a pound although I was later advised there are no discs available. But it is still switched on. I asked for a refund but no one would assist me. The swimming pool costs extra for each swimmer and the pet barn also costs extra money to enter. It feels like money is being taken at every opportunity. The camping is by no means cheap either. The evening and morning kids entertainment was great however. If the staff had a positive helpful attitude and the swimming and pet barn were part of the camping package, as I believed, I would give the site 5 stars. However these things ruined the good feeling I usually encounter when camping. It felt like a business and had lost all personal touches.

"Everything You Could Ever Want From a Caravan and Camping Holiday"

Been to Stowford Farm Meadows many times, staff are always friendly and helpful, the pitch fees are competitive, the pitches are spacious, your neighbour is not sitting on your tow hitch. You don't need to go off site for anything, it is all here, farm shop, mini market, fish and chip shop, cafe, restaurant, indoor heated swimming pool, petorama for the children, bars and entertainment in the evenings, crazy golf, even get yourself another caravan, new and second hand, (found these a bit pricey) but all in all a cracking place to have a holiday, Ilfracombe is only about 3 miles away, loads of other places to visit along the North Devon coast line, I believe that the whole of Stowford covers about 500 acres of beautiful Devon countryside, very dog friendly, go enjoy.
