What an informative talk

What an informative talk, delivered with such enthusiasm. Sam covered lots of topics including dead heading, diseases, pests, feeding. Will definitely attend more of her talks.

You can tell it is family run

You can tell it is family run - such a lot of thought has gone into using the whole space to advantage for everyone.
I attended plant talk this week and so enjoyed it. Then put voucher towards a beautiful plant for my outside table.
A BIG THANK YOU TO SAM……
I even treated myself to a luxury hot chocolate as I did not have a drink at event (my choice)

Afternoon tea was not the award winning…

Afternoon tea was not the award winning experience we were expecting and unfortunately not worth the £50 price tag. All cakes and scones were so dry and had clearly been sitting out all day not fresh at all. We couldn’t eat the scones. We were not asked about any dietary requirements on arrival and were refused to be able to swap cold salmon sandwiches (could not eat due to pregnancy). Asking dietary requirements on arrival should be standard practice especially as these afternoon teas are often given as gifts. When the afternoon tea was brought over we were not told what any of the cakes or sandwiches were, it would have been nice to be told what we were having.

Hi Freya,

Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review on your recent experience, I firstly would like to apologise on behalf of the team that your recent experience was below par.

Our scones are prepared fresh daily by our pastry chef and I can only apologise that you received scones below our normal standards. I have taken your feedback on board to have them warmed and will now make sure the team follow this improved service.

It is our standard practice to take all dietary information for the table at the time of booking over the phone or by email when speaking with the customer. On this occasion having investigated our booking process further, this key dietary information did not get captured or shared with us due to the booking being made on your behalf, so we do apologise for not being made aware of any dietary information beforehand and following this up with a check back on arrival at the table.

Please rest assured I have now communicated with my team to improve on this for future bookings.

On your feedback about the delivery of customer service when your afternoon tea was delivered to the table, this is not good enough.

Our staff are asked to normally deliver menu information about our afternoon tea stands when delivering to the table and apologises that it did not happen on this occasion.

As a token gesture of good will, I would love to invite you both back into our restaurant again to give you the afternoon tea experience we usually deliver and strive to achieve on a daily basis. Please get in touch with me by email and I would be more than happy to get you booked in again.

Half term activities…

We booked onto half term activities with our two children aged 6 and 8, they both enjoyed the activities and were made to feel welcome and comfortable enough to engage with the staff there. Good value for money - the staff accommodated dietary needs when we made them aware. Would take mine again and would recommend for children aged 3-10.

Went to have coffee and cake here on Sunday at 3.15pm, only to be turned away by a young waitress there and was told they were now closed, apparently they need time to clear away really???.
Disappointing, who closes this early on a Sunday, we've been in the past and have been served later than this before.
Oh well, it will be Webbs Garden Centre then next time.

Good event. Shame about paint!

We took our 2 grandchildren (aged 6 and 3 years) to the half term tomato planting and painting a windchime and pot. They both loved it. We had a good time doing the activity, then went to see the goats and pigs.
Only downside was that the paint used unfortunately did not come out of their clothes. We washed them as soon as we got home but the pink and yellow would not come out despite using stain remover and washing several times.

May half term activities

Excellent value for money and a great half term activity for our granddaughters. The staff helping the children were all very good and the girls loved the activities, planting their own tomatoes and taking them home. Thank you. We will keep an eye out for future school holiday activities.

Tomato Planting

We had a lovely time doing the Tomato planting with our nieces. It was fun painting their plant pots, a wind chime and clearly a hit, as they’re watering the tomato plant daily. Only criticism is the paint was a bit watery for the pot, and didn’t seem to show up.

The staff were friendly, helpful and on hand to help/answer questions from the children. Great activity for a wet afternoon in a magical teepee setting.

Loved the allotment and got inspired to look into gardening myself! Nature trail was a good addition and the garden centre was a well thought out retail experience overall. Will definitely return in the future.

great half term activity for kids, restaurant service disappointing

A really lovely morning with the family. We booked onto the tomato plant pot activity (£10). Includes plant pot painting, tomato plant & soil (kids plant their own) wind chime decorating, sweets and a drink along with some crayons and an activity pack. My daughter really enjoyed it! Both the staff were lovely and super helpful. We went for a walk around the “trail” afterwards and thoroughly enjoyed all the free lawn games they had. Browsed the garden centre shop afterwards which was great.
Only downfall was the restaurant in the shop, it was really busy (expected for a bank holiday I guess). We sat down and waited 15minutes and nobody came to serve us… we ended up leaving and getting lunch elsewhere.

Half term activity - Tomato Planting

This was our first visit to the garden centre and we decided to book in for the half term activity of tomato planting for our 2yr old.
And I must say it was a great day out for all.
They were very accommodating in allowing me to change the date of my booking, the event itself was super organised and setup in a lovely teepee. Both organisers were great with our little one, got him involved in the tomato planting and he absolutely loved it.
We had a walk around the trail which was lovely as is the garden centre and cafe, could easily spend hours there!
We would definitely come back for any future events and would highly recommend it.

Behind the scenes

This was the first event organised by the Garden Centre that I have attended and it was a brilliant start. Between them Will, Stewart and Mark told us all about the history of the Garden Centre and how they raise plants for the sale. It was very interesting and they answered all the questions clearly.

The tour finished with Coffee and lovely cakes in their Yurt. A great morning.

Unreasonable extra charges

lovely setting, friendly staff, 30 pence extra for soy milk for the tea, I noticed on the bill. Don't normally question food outlet prices and wouldn't normally respond to such pettiness, but on principle... This is not justified. Soy milk is 50 pence per litre in the supermarket. I recieved around 50 mg, which equates to £6 per litre. Soy does not cost more than dairy milk, so why charge extra instead of exchanging like for like. I didn't receive a discount for not using dairy milk.

This is unfair and after years of coming to The Shed with family for food and drink, I think this sort of ridiculous petty penny pinching is unacceptable.

Dear Rob,
Thank you for taking time out to leave us a review and share your feedback.
I feel your concern and dissatisfaction regarding your point made about the alternative milk charge of 30 pence. Unfortunately, the hospitality industry and independent caterers/retailers like us do not have the buying power like the big Supermarkets nationally that can work on lower margins and turn over higher volumes of any product line at a lower cost price.

Wholesale and food suppliers servicing the hospitality industry are still absorbing higher than ever high food inflation costs across many categories despite what the media publish in the news. Unfortunately for us, alternative milk options are very expensive to buy in and over 75% of local and branded chain cafes/restaurants share the cost on their menus to their customers to be able to offer these alternative milks. Coupled then with the recent wage increase last month, the hospitality industry is already in a very difficult place.

I appreciate your feedback and I will certainly take this away for consideration in future menu development with our restaurant & café.

If you would like to discuss the matter further please feel free to get back in touch and I will be happy to chat further

Best wishes,
Robert Banks
