PROVIDENT House Student Lodge failed expectations
This relates to PROVIDENT House Student Lodge in Nottingham and services to students. This accommodation is highly priced and over-rated in my opinion after being my daughter's guarantor since September 2020. My daughter's first year coupled with the pandemic and having stayed in a claustrophobic room in the basement without access to fresh air was appalling. Despite pleas to change rooms, nothing was done. The basement had no 3/4G connection that meant only communication was through social media/what app. The window does not open and the fire door leads to the dirtiest outside space meant to be a fire escape. Would be better to go through fire than that back. Student not allowed to open the door anyway and it is the only source of fresh air. So prepare strong smelling foods in the room and you are stuck with it. Very unhealthy atmosphere. My daughter was not allowed to simply move to another room despite months of notice, but had to proceed like applying for a new room.
Moving in date,the lift was broken, so had to be log bags and bags up to the first floor. Luckily, was not higher up floors. Until Monday 13/09/21, lifts still out of order, so moving in days for all the worst.
New room has black stains on a large area on brick wall under one of the windows. I thought, oh, just stains on the brick similar to mould in damp area. Called maintenance and sent pictures and was told "oh that's mould". Well, since 13/09/21, my daughter and I have been contacted their office on 01157722111.I was informed that all the rooms are booked up, therefore, they cannot offer a change, but are happy for her to cancel her contract., as they have a waiting list of students ready to take up room as it is. Conclusion, stains, not mould and there is nothing we can do to rectify. To cut the story short, you complain and never get customer friendly outcome. Very satisfying solution for an accommodation that costs minimum £6800 per academic year. Please make sure you inspect any room allocated before accepting an offer. The pre-recorded videos are not exactly what you get. I must say, polite lady I was dealing with until the General Manager got involved with a decision before offering a solution. Definitely, final year, I will rather pay higher rent and get good service, especially maintenance that tend to be slow at responding.
