Saw the most animals compared to other safaris
Before I mention anything else about or amazing trip, I think it’s important to note the safari industry is having a negative effect on the environment and Masai Mara indigenous tribe, which I’m not going to go into in this review, but I will say Super Africa Safari is one of the few companies (I observed) going out of their way to curate their safari to be Masai Mara and environmentally friendly - specifically by supporting a Masai Mara run resort where we stayed and was one of the highlights our trip. This is reason alone to book a tour with Super Africa it gets so much better.
This was our first safari and we didn’t really know what to expect. We crossed paths with many other tour groups throughout or journey and towards the end of the trip we began to realize this wasn’t the same type of safari everyone else was on - It was much better curated with a greater emphasis on seeing as many different animals and parks as possible and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!
When choosing a safari tour company we were overwhelmed with all the different options and knowing so little about the country, made it difficult to trust we were making the right decision. We were also on a budget and opted for Super Africa Safaris because it was far less expensive than other companies. We were afraid we might regret it and get what we paid for but felt we got better value than a trip more than twice the cost and very happy with the decision we made. If we had spent money on a more expensive company we found that the money would have gone to unnecessary hotel upgrades were you may enjoy 5 star accommodations but you’re stuck at a hotel inside of a small wildlife preserve with very little animals to see. Sure there’s a luxury pool, bar and spa but why would you spend thousands of dollars more on a safari to just sit at a pool all day. Also, our accommodations were not lacking in the least. My wife and I are not young and we like to travel comfortably. All of the hotels and lodges we stayed at rivaled the average mid-high end western hotel. They all had clean comfortable rooms; really nice pools; safe and well manicured grounds; bars; serious chefs cooking amazing food using fresh local ingredients and plenty of internet and hot water.
As I mentioned, this wasn’t an expensive sit by the pool all day get pampered and go periodically drive around and check out a handful of different animals around the property. Super Africa Safari is an all out adventure from dusk till dawn to track down all the African wildlife. In the biggest national parks we constantly came across scenes that were unbelievable. Beautiful African skies surrounded by lush greenery with a dozen elephant in one direction, heard of zebra and wild beasts in another direction, hippos climbing out of the water with giraffe necks poking up behind trees in the background in another direction. All so surreal and mind bending I half expected to see a dinosaur pop into view next. Numerous occasions our vehicle was engulfed by herds of elephants lumbering by less than 30 feet from us, some herds with 100 plus elephant of all sizes and ages. I could write a novel about about all the incredible scenes we found ourselves in among the Big 5, crocodiles, birds, all the way down to lizards, butterflies and giant centipedes.
I thought a 14 day safari might be too long but I could have driven around for another 2 weeks. This safari covers a lot of ground, traveling through different ranges of climate, habitats and biodiversity in order to see a greater diversity of animals. Just a note, you do get a couple down days to break up the trip and spend time relaxing at the hotels. 4 wheel drive safari van was very comfortable with plush reclining chairs which made some of the longer drives easy to sit back and take in the scenery, nap or read a book. Had a large retractable stand up viewing roof. There are lots of rest stops along the way, many specifically for safari tour vehicles. Our guide, Sam, was extremely knowledgeable. Great at spotting hidden animals out of the corner of his eye and had deep knowledge of every tree, plant, animal, reptile, bird and insect under the sun.
