Formal Complaint to Fair Trading NSW
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the moving service I received, which has been the worst experience with movers I have ever had.
Despite confirming a start time between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM to accommodate cleaners, the two movers arrived at 10:15 AM. From the outset, they moved at an unreasonably slow pace—taking minutes to place a single item on the trolley and minutes more to remove it. For hours, my brother and I had to repeatedly ask them to hand items over, which I could have handled myself without issue.
By 2:32 PM, with a few boxes still remaining in the truck, they informed me they would charge 4.5 hours. Before I could accept, they connected me with someone from their office who increased the charge to 5.5 hours, adding an extra hour for a “call-out fee.” This is completely unacceptable, particularly as I booked the service through Muval.com.au, whose referral I now consider misleading given the substandard service. I insist on a full refund for any fees associated with this referral.
I personally offloaded the remaining items and asked the movers to leave immediately. I paid only for 4 hours and 15 minutes, reflecting the actual time for the job, which should not have taken more than 3 hours if conducted efficiently.
I have requested CCTV footage from the building managers of both sites to document their service and will be lodging a complaint with Fair Trading NSW to obtain a refund for the additional 1 hour and 15 minutes charged. I am prepared to pursue this matter through the tribunal if necessary, due to the significant distress and inconvenience caused by their deliberate slow service.
