As a marketplace, they decided to make each and every product sold on their site have updates cycles of 12 months, after which you need to buy them again.
This decision is forced upon creators selling on this site, and customers.
Basically a scam, I will never buy another product on their site, there are many alternatives out there like gumroad that don't scam their customers.
This company changed policies overnight on already purchased products forcing everyone to repurchase their products on a yearly basis just to receive updates. Do not use this marketplace, there are other alternatives. It is time to move on as a community. This is not at all in the spirit of Blender. If you have addons you might as well just subscribe to one of the real full featured 3d modelling or CAD programs because the yearly cost will be the same.
