How I got my money back
Following a google search, I contacted Barry by phone about a defective front door lock, then sent him photographs of the lock type by WhatsApp.
Barry wanted me to send £130 by Bacs as deposit for the lock for him to source it. I sent him the money on 12.5.25. He failed to answer or return my calls for the next 3 days. (He had originally told me he would get the lock the following day and get back to me).
I then went to his home address which is on his website, I spoke with his partner, I asked to speak with Barry but he was asleep, this was about 13.10hrs.
I then explained I was a carer looking after my disabled wife and we needed a secure front door.
I was then promised that the money would be returned that day (15.5.25). I gave my bank details to Barry's partner and left.
Later that day I received a text from the partner to say the money had been returned.
I checked my account and saw the £130 had been indeed been returned.
Learning points for me
1) Check Trustpilot before the transaction.
2) Don't make a Bacs payment in these circumstances.
I was fortunate enough to be able to go to the home address and deal with the matter face to face.
