I've used TDA for a long time. I give them 3 out of 5 stars because they are pretty much useless for speed trading, or anything under 5 minute trades. Then, their price execution for market orders can... See more

TD Ameritrade are a bunch of thieves
TD Ameritrade are a bunch of thieves. They charged $54 just to withdraw $300. My suggestion to all you folks. Don't open an account with them and if you have an existing account close it.
Beware the hidden fees
Beware the hidden fees. It's difficult to know which transactions will have which fees. Some will have a $50.00 fee and some a $6.95 fee. I often just buy the same positions I understand BUT the worst thing is the sneaky fees. Some are small but the worst one I encountered was a $15.00 FOREIGN SECURITY FEE on a position that was only worth $100 and already had a commission fee. No warning, nothing up front, I only found out months later while reviewing transactions randomly. While small, that stock had been my biggest percentage gainer but after those fees, it became a net loss. I thought TD Ameritrade had an air of security and stability but I am going to at least look into E-trade and Robinhood now. Transparency is everything to me.
Great customer service!
I've been an active client of TD Ameritrade (formerly Ameritrade) for over 25 years. I am experienced with many other institutions and trading platforms. They have the best customer service and I would recommend them to everyone.
I wish they were also IRA custodians for non-traditional investments such as crowd funding or real estate investments, but they're not. Altoira is currently my custodian for that, and the customer service is extremely poor.
cost me $960 by selling my stock at a ridiculous price.
Sold my stock for what ended up being $960 less than the amount I entered. Wouldn't undo the trade or even apologize.
Ridiculous customer care
Ridiculous customer care. Every time when i submit a tax form they come up with a query after 7 business days. If i resolve one they will again come up with an another query, why don't they do it all at once. Close the account due to this reason.
TD Ameritrade brokered approximately…
TD Ameritrade brokered approximately $6,000 in two trades for me to purchase a stock (BTSC) that had been previously revoked by SEC. Two client services reps for TD Americtrade were contentious, uninterested, very defensive, and not helpful, eventhough they kept me on the phone around 45 minutes. SEC documents show the revocation of BTSC to be effective on April 14, 2021, prior to my purchase of 127,672 shares on the same date: Google search BTSC revoked. Devon, one of the Client Services reps insisted that the effective date of revocation was July 29, 2021, which is not documented anywhere and not true. I later saw on the Google search result that Devon was reading from that my "last visit" to the Google searched related SEC docs was on July 29, 2021. I had referred this page to another TDAT client services rep on that date, and I suspect that Devon's insistence that the revocation became effective on July 29 was a result of his noticing the "last visit" date under the Google search result for BTSC revocation, and mistook it for the effective date of revocation, a hurried action by the rep that misinformed him of my thesis. Nonetheless, Devon argued on against any claim I may have against TD Ameritrade. I argued that TD Ameritrade has a fiduciary obligation to block a trade or inform its client in such situations, and to know if a stock has been revoked by SEC. Period. TD Ameritrade's argument against me, per Devon, is that since the stock kept trading after its SEC revocation, TD Ameritrade had no way of knowing it had been revoked, nor that its brokerage of that stock would not be in my best interest. According to Devon, TD Ameritrade had no knowledge of the April 14, 2021 BTSC revocation, and is thus not responsible for brokering the revoked stock. Is TD Ameritrade now brokering other revoked stocks unknowingly? Why doesn't TD Ameritrade have an effective means for knowing when stocks are revoked by SEC?
Huge Hidden Fees
I was charged almost a fee of 97% of the value of one of my positions because the stock split. No advanced warning so I could sell the stock and avoid the fee. What a crappy scumbag move. JJ goes on CNBC acting like he cares about the customer. Selling my long term holdings and transferring out the cash.
RUDE, NON EXISTING CUSTOMER SERVICE REP!
Trying to get help logging into the online portal for an existing account, was BEYOND STRESSFUL!... The rep: Omar Deniz, was rude and refused to let me speak to his superior/manager; his response was " It's Not going to happen", "It's Not going to happen, you can hung up and call back and see if you get someone else, but it's not going to happen".
After hunging up and calling back, only to have him answer my call a 2nd time and refuse to let me speak to a manager, I repeated " your refusing to let me speak to a manager, correct? and this call is being recorded, correct?, because I am recording this call, he put me on hold for 15 minutes. Someone by the name of Chis Gabriel, ( if it was a different person at this point I dont think so), came on ine to give me the information I needed, which is how to check if an account is registered. THIS WAS THE 2ND CALL AND IT WAS 20 MINUTES.
I would give the 1/2 a star if it was an option1

TD has had a request for my accounts to be transferred to another brokerage for months. My broker left and they moved it to a general retail account. Instead of doing the transfer as directed by one of their associates, they sat on it for months, and wanted to charge enormous fees to finalize the transfer. I am greatly disturbed by the snark and indifference. If you want to earn the trust of a client - you must listen. Not only will I never use you again - I will tell everyone I know to never use you. Way to be greedy and difficult!!

Truly Bad Management Relative to Other Brokerages!!
For several years, after moving capital elsewhere, we were left with very small balances in vanilla brokerage accounts at TD Ameritrade. Nonetheless the accounts each incurred $2/month service fees, despite repeated requests to close the accounts and mail us the small proceeds (< $30 total). The requests were ignored, and the monthly charges continued. Today, after 2+ years and many such requests, it appears that the accounts will be closed. Nonetheless the proceeds from one account is now $3, and the other is $18, after yet another service fee of $2 per account is assessed. Common sense suggests that this is NOT an enterprise to ever consider doing business with. Several years ago, we actualy encountered, and continue to encounter, good management at Schwab, 180 degrees different from TD Ameritrade, in their application of common sense, and of accommodating common-sense client-requests.
Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible, they hold funds for an outrageous amount of time even after receiving them from a bank. You can call customer service and best believe they’re not going to give you a straight answer as to why your banking information is showing one thing and yet your still not able to use your funds. Steer clear of this brokerage if you can. But if you like having your funds hung up for a week not being able to withdraw them, then your at the right place.
Account hacked - seriously flawed security practices
Somebody hacked into my TD Ameritrade account with very limited knowledge about me. They did this by phoning into the call center and then changing my username and password.
The security protocols they have in place is deeply flawed and in my opinion they shouldn't be allowed to operate given the lack of controls and the ease with which my account was hacked.
If you don't want to put your money at risk, I strongly suggest you look for another broker
Cannot Confirm if My Account is Deleted
I was forced to sign up for the site if I wanted certain information. After finding what I was looking for I wanted to delete my account. I sought help and was informed to login. I couldn't. It said they didn't have my account information.
Replying to the email asking me to login I let them know I couldn't and just wanted confirmation that my account and personal information was deleted. I've only gotten messages telling me they can't give me that information out over email...
What a waste of time
Customer service is between…
Customer service is between non-existent and straight out of a joke. Submitted an application and was informed after 2 months (without a hint of regret or apology) that the necessary documentation in the meanwhile changed and need to be resubmitted. Even Kafka could not make this up.
Not trustworthy
I was with this company for many years without problem. Now they suddenly and summarily closed my account - without warning and without reason. I called to ask why, and of course the person who answered did not know, and said it showed it was for "business reasons". Would you trust a company that treated your finances this way?
