GROSS NEGLIGENCE

I just received my auto insurance renewal forms, only to find out I have been driving around without collision insurance for over two months and had no clue.

I did have an at-fault accident in November 2022 (I backed into a pole - so no injuries or other cars) and kept my old car until July 2025. I added my new (used 2023) car to my insurance on their online portal and was never advised that the collision wasn't on it.

THIS IS GROSS NEGLIGENCE TD. Disgusting behaviour and not the first time I have heard about the anarchy that is TD Insurance

I had to give at least 1 star

I had to give at least 1 star - they are more like -5. They do not hire Canadians to answer phones - you cannot understand any of them. They do not understand English. The company charges you through the nose and rise rates for no reason. No claims in almost 25 yrs and they raise house insurance 500. It's pathetic

TD Car insurance is giving address to customer without confirming their address. Just to help customer to save money they are issuing letter with wrong address. This is down even after they are aware about it.

TD Home Insurance deserves 0 stars

TD Home Insurance deserves 0 stars. Calls involve long wait times, and when you file a claim, they argue instead of helping. They consistently avoid responsibility and provide endless excuses. The customer service is unprofessional, and the coverage is overpriced for what you get. I strongly do not recommend TD Home Insurance.

Home flooded

Home flooded, first inspector showed up in a tank top and flip flops refusing to do an inspection, a junior engineer lying on a report that both he and the P.Engineer inspected my home in person("the undersigned attended") and then concluded paint that was on metal, plastic and wood surfaces is wood fungus is seems like fraudulent investigating to get a report to deny my claim. In the meantime, sent no remediation services or allowed me to claim the installation of a new sump pump despite saying my policy covered it under extended water damage when I first talked to the adjuster. Their stated time commitments for returning emails or phone calls of 24-48hr sounds nice, but it's really 2-3 weeks. Wait time to file a complaint is a recorded message saying it will be at least 90 minutes. No option for email, online form or even callback feature. Make sure you make your own recordings of anyone who comes to your home for "inspection", you'll need it.

I don’t recommend this insurance to anyone. They increase the rates even if you don’t have any flags and always respect the speed limit. They also don’t contact you if there’s an issue with your payment, they just increase the charges. Very disappointing service.

Won't honor multi line discount, instead raised monthly costs...

Customer service either lies through their teeth or lacks sufficient training to do basic tasks. The only reason I went with these crooks was for a multi line discount through my work. A year later I found out it's not being respected and they have been charging me the full price. They also forced the age of my roof that was jusy replaced back to 1990 and thought I wouldnt notice. I spent hours on the phone with customer service who confirmed they updated my roof age and applied the discount. Fast forward two weeks, instead of applying the discount, my insurance went up by $100/month with no coverage changes and I just got a letter in mail saying my roof age is set back to 1990 and I will lose coverage. Stay away from TD, they do not respect you.

Update: to add insult to injury, when i inquired about the increases, we discovered my employer discount wasn't being honored either. Cited due to applying through the provided QR online...

Update 2025-08-29
It gets worse, not only will they not honor the rates, they put all owness for getting the proper rates on the customer. I would expect nothing less at this point.

I just wanted to get insurance on our…

I just wanted to get insurance on our townhouse for our possessions (appliances, electronics, clothing, knick knacks). Our TH is already covered under strata insurance. TD Insurance quoted me $440 PER MONTH! What the heck? Over 4 years that would be $20,000 plus! I don't own that much in goods! This should be illegal what they are charging! Anyway, I went with another insurance broker for 1/5 this cost! And one who has way better reviews on here. Do your research!

I highly advice to all not to get TD…

I highly advice to all not to get TD Home Insurance. They’re so money greedy. The rates are way too high, and they increase to 10% yearly. But recently, they informed me that they will be increasing to 20% and added that it was allowed by law. My premium went from 130 a month to 190. I terminated my contract and went to different insurance. Despite that, they will want me to pay $70 dollars for insufficient funds when it was already terminated. Customer service is not good, they’re not helpful. When I try to explain about those charges, they are so not accommodating. They will really drain you. Included when I tried to negotiate my contract, they are not helpful and insists on the increased rate and threatens to not provide some coverage. So save yourself from trouble and don’t go for TD insurance. Go to your local insurance brokerage and they will offer insurance that fits your budget.

TD Cancellation Fee and Price Hikes

TD charged me over $600 for auto insurance cancellation!
I received and mail today stating that there are changes to my auto policy and that there was an increase in my premium (increase of 15%!) I decided to look at other options and cancel my policy. I have already paid $479 for this month of payment. On the phone a representative told that I would have to pay an additional $198 on top of what I already paid to cancel my policy. This is pure robbery. Never use TD insurance again!

Worst company and insurance treatment…

Worst company and insurance treatment possibly criminal - in my life. It’s exactly how other people claim. They will randomly deny claims then request the same forms you already sent 100 times just to waste time and anger people. They do not provide anything. Think you get a rental vehicle if you pay for coverage? Think again! I got nothing ever. They basically stole my car and broke into it and dropped it back off without fixing anything and didn’t replace it and denied every policy coverage I legally paid for. They take over a month they still haven’t approved a simple claim the entire thing is the most shady worst ever. In 22 years. Honestly I don’t care what they offer you or how low a rate if your vehicle is vandalized of no fault to yourself they’ll just leave it unusable. They even said “you can just sit there”. Most disgusting people I’ve ever encountered in my life.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. Charging me almost 200 a month when some of the most trusted and big names would only charge 90. Try Allstate before them. They won't even give me my decline to renewal have to wait for the mail when they have a website do not trust them I learned my lesson

I Suggest a Different Insurer

We have had multiple products with TD Bank, many of over twenty years total. This includes: mortgage, HLOC, savings, investments, car insurance, , home insurance and many more. Recently, we made our first claim ever. First, it took over 100 days, and we paid $2,000 in interest waiting. Finally, we were given only 40% of the costs, even though we paid monthly (for twenty consecutive years) for 100 percent coverage. We are out thousands and thousands of dollars. We were not explained, only that one of their supervisors tallied up what they thought they could do the job for. It said, however, in the insurance documents themselves, that you can hire your own licensed professional. We did, and that's what they charged, and TD didn't want to pay that amount. We feel that is not right. We also feel they are counting on customers who cannot afford a lawyer to fight this, or cannot afford the time to fight this. This seems like a regular occurrence, as after multiple inquiries, we were given no information as to why they are not paying the full amount. We are following up on the matter legally, but very disappointing considering this is our first and only claim in twenty-plus years. So if you have TD, you may only be getting 40% of what you are entitled to when claiming. We suggest a different insurance company, most certain.

I've been with TD insurance for almost 15 years and had never missed a payment for home or auto insurance. They raised my home insurance from $285 to $444. They refused to give me a better rate and were not helpful. They are uninterested in helping their clients and didn't seem to care when I told them I found better rates with Bel Air. Therefore I canceled with them and very glad I did.

Mixed review…

I just want to put a review out there for different/mixed experiences. First of all, I have had a not at fault many years ago, and two glass (windshield) claims. During all of my dealings with TD most of the representatives have always tried to help and understand, and claims were not an issue. The not at fault was a bit of a pain only because the adjudicator had a heavy case load and never answered the phone. Sometimes it took up to three days to get a response, but sometimes quicker. Yet saying that, I was paid above fair for my car and I believe everything was settled in under four weeks. Another con is the present home insurance. I did not want to go with a different company but my renewal premium for home was raised 50% this month through no fault of my own, and they said they could not price match…so I am now signed on with Intact for my renewal in September and let the TD representative know today. She responded with empathy and grace. I could not have asked for a better person to handle the call. Afterwards I was looking at reviews for Intact and note they also have horrible reviews. I am sincerely hoping that a lot of people with no issues aren’t posting their good experiences, as three of my family members have my new insurance…I did not want to leave TD and only did so because of the massive price increase. I suspect the same will happen with other companies soon.
