Hi JS,

Thanks for your review. There are points you mention we are working on.

Firstly, we are a small business with many competitors.
if we do not self promote, who will do it for us?

Our pack and shipping quotes have guide prices for packing on the site before you even request one, we then add on the courier costs. This is fully explained.
Most importantly though, all quotes are TOTALLY OPTIONAL. You can arrange your own shipping and we will facilitate this any way we can free of charge.
We actually recommend you arrange your own collection and are transparent in the fact you can probably find more cost effective solutions for your individual needs.
But buyers use our shipping services to save them any work and hassle. That's the premium you pay if you choose to

Finally we are working towards improving communication with our clients. We have been going through a transition with staff since before Xmas but we have just very recently made changes within the admin structure of the company to try to be better.

Junk sellers!

I tried a couple of auctions, but I had to conclude that they really don't care about selling you the oldest leftover junk equipment they can find. Most of the equipment I bought was damaged or defective beyond repair. Eventually, I had to bring it all to the city dump and lost a lot of money. They also charge extra costs, which they don't mention beforehand. There's a €35 handling fee and the packaging per item costs €35 to €50. They also double the actual shipping costs, just to rip you off a bit more. They keep listing unsold old junk that nobody wants over and over again. Even after a year, you still see the same old junk listed alongside new old junk. Stay away from Techbid; you will lose money, and you'll be left with junk!

Hi,
Not sure who you are so cannot check our dealings with each other, but we refute basically everything you have said.
Firstly ALL CHARGES are mentioned on our payments and collections page. Unfortunately some users choose to not read that page.
But what totally negates that is the fact the shipping quotes are TOTALLY OPTIONAL!!
You could have quite easily made your own arrangements, but for simplicity you've had us do all the work for you. We are not a charity. Work is not done for free.

In terms of the equipment we list, sorry but we've been doing this around 15 years have repeats sellers and buyers from the start till now.. Yes items are second hand. well used in the industry. WE MAKE THAT CLEAR.

The equipment does not and has never belonged to Techbid, we are a platform for vendors to sell their kit, but we make you aware before bidding:

"Although most lots originate from working environments, all lots are sold as seen, mostly untested and without any warranties whatsoever, either express or implied. They are sold with any faults and errors or mis-statement of description, measurement, weight, quantity, quality, numbered or otherwise (including accuracy of guide photographs and whether of substantial nature or not). The hour readings on machinery in the sale cannot be warrantied & should not be relied upon. However, a period of up to 14 days prior to the sale closing is normally provided for prospective bidders to satisfy themselves about the nature and condition of any items of interest. Viewing is at our London offices and is strictly by appointment by emailing viewing@techbid.co.uk with a preferred date & time. It is recommended that buyers do not bid unless they or their agent have physically examined lots to their satisfaction prior to doing so as absolutely no refunds can be given for any reason after the sale. Techbid sales are only considered suitable for trade buyers as there are no rights of consumer protection.

The purchaser shall be assumed to have inspected the lot he buys, or if purchased without previous inspection, it is understood to be at his own risk and it is advised that in these circumstances the bidder should make an allowance in their maximum bid for any remedial work that may subsequently be found necessary."

Any issues you may have had could off been avoided if you used any of the options mentioned in the terms, but you did not.

We'll continue working with genuine broadcast industry professionals, who understand how auctions work, auctioning hi-end Arri/RED/Sony camera kits, Genelec/ Rogers speakers just to name a few top brands, along with other broadcast quality kit as we always have.

Unusually high number of lost packages

I have purchased a lot of stuff from them over the years but more and more of my packages have disappeared and never arrived. Lost thousands of pounds on items that never arrived and those cases have never been resolved in any way. Not sure if the auction is worth bothering with unless you are able to go check the stuff locally and do your own pickup.

Hi Juha,

I have to say we think a 1 star review is immensely harsh! We are what, 46 invoices in with you down the years and you are a highly valued customer.
You are talking about maybe 2 invoice where items may have gone astray in the 6 years we have been working together.
Every other time the service has been spot on.
Even when you have delayed in paying us, we never made things difficult for you. That's not how we operate.

We tell you in every quote to insure your items against loss or damage in transit as we will not be liable for this. Sometimes, overseas larger shipments get split and go missing.
But I myself have always done my best to chase what I can the few times this has happened. But we do have other clients. 100s each auction.

I yesterday shipped you last auction items which should arrive this week.

Perhaps a possible solution is you arrange your own shipping, because you have never doubted the quality or value of the kit you have received. Perhaps you have a receiver here in UK we can deliver to and they can forward over to Finland if you are unhappy with FedEx

Not complying with data protection law

I don't recommend this company, I asked to delete my data, which they claimed they did, but they are still sending SPAM messages to my private phone number. ICO (Information Commissioner's Office in UK) also ruled that "TECHBID Ltd has not complied with its obligations under data protection law".

Reply to the company:
I had an account with them for many years, I used their services more than one time, I'm not sure why they are denying it. Very odd... Now they deserve the 1 star review even more...

New update:
Today I also got a spam SMS message to my phone from them, yet they claim they don't hold any information about me...

Very helpful and informative

I have bought a few things from Techbid Auctions. I recently acquired a canon c300 camera, for quite a reasonable price too! All my experiences with Techbid have been great. They are very helpful and answered any questions I submitted in their Q&A section. I was even able to contact them and book in a slot where I could come in and test the camera before putting a bid on it. Overall very good experience and have recommended to loads of friends.

Cannot be trusted

Won a bid on an expensive device, paid extra for delivery, unfortunately the device was faulty and total waste of money, it was not even packaged well. I contacted them and their excuse was that I should have gone to their office and checked the item before paying for it as they don't check all items. Will never deal with them again.

Thank you for your review, but can we get serious now and please tell the whole story. As we also stated in our emails back to you at the time:

We are an AUCTION, not a shop. Items do not belong to Techbid.

Also this is a 22 year old machine we are talking about. The item was powered up for photographing as standard and showed no error message(s)
Nowhere do we claim to check every item. Like the last auction, most consist of 600 lots+. It just would not be viable.

What we do offer which many other online auctions do not is two weeks during the live auction for any potential bidder to come in, check, “Plug & Play” and fully test and and all items till they are satisfied and happy to bid.
There is also a Q&A option on the site to ask questions on all lots and we will always answer these as honestly and promptly as possible.

In this case, you have not used any of the options available.

Terms are clear:
The purchaser shall be assumed to have inspected the lot he buys, or if purchased without previous inspection, it is understood to be at his own risk and it is advised that in these circumstances the bidder should make an allowance in their maximum bid for any remedial work that may subsequently be found necessary.

You also chose to ignore this advice.

We offered you a reduced rate to inspect and hopefully repair the deck, you ignored us again.
It's now been a month and you've not contacted us again.
Just left a well 'edited' review

Generally I like the site but there are a couple of things which could be better when using a phone-

Choice of 'number of lots' per page.
A much bigger 'move to the next page' button
More in the way of description of each lot
and finally
Group similar lots together
and/or
provide 'search lots' facility

Regular buyer.

A good source of audio and video broadcast equipment at a fair price, with the occasional bargain to be had. Just make sure you read the description and check all the photos so that you know what you're bidding on, and don't forget to factor in the buyers premium and VAT. It's all explained on their website. I end up buying something from them several times a year. The guys are always helpful with queries and respond quickly by e-mail or phone.

Buying from Techbid Auctions

I have always found buying from Techbid auctions extremely straight forward and they have always packed and delivered my items quickly and securely.
There is always a real person to speak to or email if I have any questions.
The only downside is that the cost of delivery is based on weight not value, which is fair enough, but has meant that delivery has occasionally cost more than the item itself. Collecting in person was always an enjoyable experience when I lived more locally.

I've bought a number of items from…

I've bought a number of items from Techbid over the years. Everything that says it is tested, has worked, though a couple of those have needed some kind of attention.
Don't get auction fever. There is a buyer fee and also VAT on top.
They will package and courier items out, but this service is very expensive. I usually work on the assumption that the final cost for something is roughly double what the bid price is, by the time you have paid fees, VAT, packing, delivery, and more VAT.

Excellent specialist auction house with first class service!

I have been dealing with Techbid for many years, both buying and selling specialist audio and video kit.
Had some excellent bargains for items purchased, got great prices for the majority of my sales AND their superb engineers has fixed some high end studio kit for me before sale.
Staff are beyond reproach. Professional and always extremely helpful
Couldn't recommend them more highly.

NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL !!!

I bid on a Sennheiser HMD 25 headset paid £ 143.75, the headset was functional on the ad. I receive the headphones and the microphone did not work ! I contact them and no response ... they don't care !!! do not bid on this site!
and beware of the two very good last reviews published the same day (December 17, 2019), it smells like fake !!!
