KEEP YOUR PERSONAL DATA SAFE and AVOID
Writing this as the potential Guarantor of a Tenant. Initial contact from Tenref was by SMS inviting me to log in using their code and my surname in order to give them my personal and financial details. No mention of who the client was, nor the rental address, no prior introduction by email. Unprofessional and just looked like Phishing.
Subsequently they rang me and I gave them feedback as to why I hadn't supplied details.
After checking with the tenant and agent, I went through their online process which wanted so much personal data from me that I refused to complete the process. For example because of multiple income sources (some self-employment, some zero hours, some pension, etc) the process required me to type in my name, phone and address over and over for each income source. They wanted to know amount of income from every source, date of starting the job, date of ending job, payroll reference, start of pension, end of pension, pension number, National Insurance Number, bank interest, investments details (account numbers / references and amounts), employer details, copy of P60 or P45. They also wanted copies of my last three years' Tax Returns (which contain a lot of additional sensitive personal data) and when I asked whether they have a secure upload facility, the answer was "No, but you can send it by email" (which has no security whatsoever and leaves copies and fragments all over the place wherever the message passes through) or Print (53 pages!) and send by Royal Mail (presumably at your own cost). I checked their Privacy Policy and it was dated 2011 so way out of date with current practice (and ten years before GDPR legislation came into force). No way would I advise anyone to cooperate with this company. KEEP YOUR PERSONAL DATA SAFE and AVOID.
