I am Deaf and BSL user.
I am Deaf and use British Sign Language. I have been registered here since 2015 and have asked for a BSL interpreter many times. The practice refused every time. I was even told through Relay UK that they “do not provide a BSL interpreter” and that I must bring someone myself. A receptionist also told me “you don’t need an interpreter, it will be quicker,” which is not acceptable.
I cannot communicate in English without support, and these repeated refusals have caused distress, communication breakdown, and serious barriers to my NHS care. This is a clear breach of the Accessible Information Standard and the Equality Act 2010. I have now made a formal complaint.
