Do not use

My mum paid £33 for a recycling bag (her mistake) and when we tried to get a code to send it they claimed no account. As far as I can see this is just a scam to make money with the pretence of environmentalism; any benefit to the planet is a) grossly overpriced and b) irrelevant to their aims.

When you open their website there's also endless pop-ups and attempts to send you notifications - it is purely a greed-driven money-making sham.

PS Your local supermarket will recycle blister packs.

Useless Customer Service

The first time I used this service, there was an issue with the shipping label, but a correct one was sent shortly after, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the second time around, we received another incorrect shipping label. This time, I’ve had to send the same information multiple times, repeating myself and even attaching the full previous email trail. Despite this, I’ve been ignored for days at a time, only to be asked the same questions again. It’s now been 10 days with no response after sending the information AGAIN. Our coffee pods (over 12kg and growing daily) have started to smell quite foul. Absolutely ridiculous trying to deal with this level of customer service! It's been a month of back and forth... no resolution in sight! We threw the pods out, its a health risk!

Greenwashers

This company touts that it is great for recycling and has free major brand recycling programs, for which you have to sign up and be put on a waiting list. I have been on a waiting list for Colgate product recycling for years. Currently on their Brita list and don’t expect to be able to recycle the filters for free. Speaking of, you can buy their extremely expensive recycling boxes. And though the advertise recycling drop off centers for them, good luck finding one in your location…

Thought I'd do my part recycling some…

Thought I'd do my part recycling some terracycle crisp packets, checked the website and they do a home 'box' (cardboard) that you can use and then either get collected or drop off. It's £108 FOR THE SMALLEST box, which is about half the size of a normal bin bag.

WHAT?!

Who in their right mind would pay £108 for a small box, let alone pay at all. If I had a ton of rubbish I'd pay a small token with drop off, but I'd be essentially giving Terracycle a huge profit to "recycle" items that they themselves made - they're effectively printing their own cash.

Absolute rip off

Absolutely useless

Absolutely useless, I’ve been collecting for months as nowhere for miles to recycle.
Frustrating website just keeps leading me to where I don’t want to go, I want to get rid of it- not attract others to dump theirs with me!
I hate the stuff!
I’m determined not to just throw it in the landfill bin,
I recycle all tubs, milk bottles etc at kerbside, I collect soft plastics and take them to a local supermarket every month or so. TerraCycle is filling my bunker and driving me crazy. Why are companies using it? It’s worse than useless 😡

Vapor Ware

I was dubious that they could even recycle what is essentially plastic coated foil wrappers. They 'partner' with the manufacturer of the wrappers. The problem started when I realized the package they sent to recycle was woefully inadequate for the volume of waste our family generates.

I tried to contact them to ask about it but got silence. While waiting on the phone for someone to pick up, I started digging and found that multiple reporters, including one from Bloomberg, put trackers in their waste and saw that despite getting shipped to Terracycle, it ended up in the landfill.

While the world is falling apart from climate change, to have companies like this trying to make money off the lack of environmentally friendly packaging by greenwashing it but still putting the waste in the dump is just a symptom of how sick we've become as a species.

Thanks Terracycle for reducing my faith in humanity.

This is rubbish; literally

This is rubbish! Literally. Saved loads of Terracycle stuff for recycling. You have to get the recycling information for each product off the website, individually take them to different collection sites…it would be days to get this done, for one or two Pringles tubes, etc…not happening. I want to recycle but this to me is misselling!! Just have one drop off point for all suppliers, then ask the suppliers to pay for a contribution to all rather than just their own!!!! Crazy!!

Good concept but....

As others have said, Terracycle is a good concept, but trying to find where one should recycle on that website is a complete joke. I finally ended up on the right part of the website, but since it sent me round in circles for 20-30mins, I'd never remember how I ended up finding it, and I have no intention of wasting time on that website again.

Further, what do you do if there isn't a recycling location close to home? Spend your (already busy) day commuting there? Find a box to send it in the post? Hardly seems worth it for a Ferrero Rocher box and an empty crisp packet.

We should be able to just put these things in the green recycling bin with the rest.

Great idea but sort out your website

Great idea but sort out your website. Sent me round in circles trying to find a recycling point near me and trying to figure out what category I needed for the products I wanted to recycle. Gave up in the end so completely pointless. Very disappointing

Some sort of joke?

A couple of the products that I buy regularly state that they can be recycled through Terracycle. As my wife and I are enthusiastic recyclers, I thought that the time had come to look further into sending material through Terracycle. Well, I have to say that it's probably one of the worst websites I've ever seen. We already have five recycling bins that are collected by our local authority. Am I supposed to have separate collection bags(?) for Warburtons, Pringles and any other companies that decide to use this ridiculous system? I've spent some time looking at this website and, frankly, I'm no wiser than I was before i started. What has actually happened is that my wife has now decided never to buy Pringles again. I'm sure that the same is going to be true for other products that use the Terracycle system in the future.

Between looking at the Terracycle website and typing this review I've just wasted 30 minutes that I'm never going to get back!
