Delicious food and great storytelling

Chef Rachel did a great job keeping the students engaged (grade 7/8 Core French) and they really enjoyed the recipe (we had two workshops, and some from the earlier workshop asked to come back). She was patient, charismatic, and kind towards the students. We hope to have her visit our school again in the near future! Merci Chef Rachel!

Culinary highlights every time

Rachel made an incredible contribution to our artist residency program. She provided healthy, sumptuous meals for our staff and participants, while also joining our group during lunches and creating a friendly atmosphere through conversation and storytelling. Our participants loved each meal, as well as the insight that Rachel offered into Pan-African cuisine and spice blends.

The Abibiman Project is a labor of…

The Abibiman Project is a labor of love. They have created a culinary experience that is deeply rooted in the historical legacy of the African Continent. The Diasporic connections helped to orient students in the grand history of the peoples, places, cultures which only serves to add to the educational and learning experience of participants. Let yourself become deeply engrossed in the facilitation and the journey of the peoples of the African continent and beyond. Challenge yourself to experience the rich tapestry that is created with each workshop. Our group had the opportunity to experience a series of workshops. I would highly recommend.

Engaging workshop!

Chef Rachel did a great job with the spice activity before cooking and cooking was very fun and engaging for the students. It could improve the workshop to include an overview of what the African Diaspora is including the transatlantic slave trade to an extent to help the students understand the geography of the flavours better.

It was a truly great and immersive experience for our students. The traditional recipe, prepared by the chef with the enthusiastic help of the students, was a definite hit with almost everyone. The hands-on involvement added a special touch, making the session both educational and enjoyable.

Rachel is amazing

Rachel is amazing! Great tricks and philosophy on cooking. Everything was realistic and something I could actually apply as someone with little cooking experience.

Incredible Workshops for Youth

My school has hosted Chef Rachel for a number of workshops with students over the past few years. She runs engaging, hands on experiential workshops that students love. The workshops she has led for our students have focused on the Flavours of the African Diaspora with themes of interconnectedness and cultural food identity. She takes students on a culinary journey that helps them understand global and local connections, develop appreciation for themself and others, and recognize how food shapes our identity and connects us to each other. The workshops are powerful experiences for young people and helps them appreciate their own personal food identity. Chef Rachel is a talented and passionate educator. We have already booked her to return next semester.

Amazing Experience!

Rachel’s cooking workshop was fantastic! She provided a lot of attainable tips about meal prep, seasonal produce selection and how to stock your pantry. I really enjoyed the format of the cooking portion - it was fun to be creative and collaborate with others attendees on different dishes!

The spice mixes are great!

The spice mixes are wonderful. I bought one pack of Massale spice at a market and kept reaching for it to use in many dishes, from meat, potatoes, veggies. I ran out and was relieved to be able to order more online.
