Cancelled 6 days before wedding event - do not trust. Rude. Aggressive. Unprofessional.
I booked The Catering Company for both my henna and wedding catering. Mo - whose conduct has been cited in multiple negative reviews - rudely and aggressively cancelled on me 6 days before my henna party. A party for 150+ guests. This is my experience. I have evidence and am happy to provide.
Before I start, I want to say I did see Mo's negative reviews on here. I discarded them - to my regret -because my venue said they have not had an issue.
Upon enquiry and pre payment, Mo will tell you everything you want to hear. Agree to requests he has no idea are yet feasible. Not 'I cannot confirm this yet' - just empty promises and overcommitment.
For context, I am a yemeni Muslim woman. My events are ladies only. I made it clear that no men should be on the premises, and that it is a big non negotiable and dealbreaker for booking. Mo appeared to have understood this, saying men will remain outside and only come in to take pots up.
Closer to the time of my henna, no men became 2 men and that became 5, and I was increasingly anxious that it would impact my event. A normal professional Muslim caterer would have stipulated that until seeing the venue, he cannot confirm that he will not have male staff - this would give me a chance to reconsider.
Just less than a week before, Mo calls and runs through the event itinerary for my henna. He tells me that his team will be packing up to go after food, including taking table cloths mid event, at 8pm. The event starts 5pm, finishes at 11pm.
I tell him that this is odd, something that he should have communicated prior to booking because it will be a bit strange if my tables are left bare. He calls me a bridezilla, and tells me I only booked him for food. Which is odd because I have never seen table covers removed from an event by the caterer 3 hours before it finishes. 1 hour, yes I understand. 3 hours, mid - peak event? Insane.
When I booked him I had table cloths, but he reassured me I won't need them and that he would provide them, so I sold them. Because they were bulky. If I knew I would have no table cloths after 8pm, I would have provided them for myself.
He suggests he's not going to wait around til 11pm for my event to finish because he already paid staff to drop stuff off the day before. Mo repeatedly weaponised the fact that it is a ladies only event, blaming me for the fact he has to do an extra trip with men the day before. If this was an issue, he should have considered that within the quote or not accepted the booking full stop.
Throughout this call, he blamed me for the work he agreed to do saying he 'isnt getting any money for it', repeatedly weaponising the price we agreed on and suggesting I now owe him compromise because he is having to do xyz extra trips.
I made it clear that this was not what we agreed upon, and is not usual practice. I said he should work with contracts and stick to promises he made, because it is not my fault he is doing 'extra' work he should have considered when initially quoting me.
He proceeded to swear and shout down the phone at me (he already repeatedly interrupted and insulted me prior), saying I have made 'demands' (read: requests he honoured at the time of booking). Without attempting to reconcile, calm down, and negotiate, he repeatedly swore down at the phone, got aggressive and cancelled. I tried to calm him down, repeatedly said I am willing to make it work, offering to take the table cloths back to him the next day. He refused to engage. He cancelled, not politely, not without attempting to communicate professionally - he cancelled, swearing and shouting over me. Truly appalling behaviour.
All because I mentioned he should be operating with contracts for such important events - to protect him, and me.
Do not trust him or this company with your wedding. He will appear kind and generous before booking, but closer to your wedding, he will screw you over with no care in the world. Just evil.
He then lied about me 'winding' everyone up - my decorator and venue. I spoke to them both and they were both baffled, having never spoken about me to him before. What a strange, childish, vindictive man.
Believe the reviews. Do not book him. I have reported him to my wedding venue.
If you must work with Mo, stipulate a contract, but the best and most sensible thing is to not book The Catering Company at all.
As earlier reviews put - I wish I could give 0 stars.
