Unethical upselling

My wife and I have been patients at Eram, and over multiple visits, we've observed a consistent and concerning pattern of aggressive upselling for unnecessary and often invasive treatments. We've reached a point where we view these practices as highly unethical and possibly criminal.

While some recommendations were relatively minor, like teeth whitening, the clinic frequently pushed for significant and highly invasive procedures. These included: Root canals, extensive surgery for artificial bone grafts due to presumed advanced periodontitis, orthodontic treatments exceeding 10,000 CHF.

In every instance where Eram recommended a major procedure, we sought second opinions from multiple other dentists in both Zurich and Germany. Without exception, every single one of these independent dental professionals advised against the treatments Eram proposed. Several years later, Eram's advice has proven wrong – none of the "necessary" invasive procedures recommended by Eram were, in fact, needed.

Eram's business strategy appears to be built on an initial appeal: they offer competitively priced basic services like dental cleanings, friendly staff, modern and well-decorated offices, and amenities like free Nespresso coffee. But the positive points are the facade to mask their malpractices. Once they begin to gain your trust, they progressively rollercoast their upselling, moving towards larger and more expensive treatments. They present these costly procedures as being in your best interest, often requiring multiple hefty follow-up tests to "validate" their findings before finally prescribing even more exhorbitant interventions, especially if you already have a dental insurance.

Check other comments, and you will see we are not alone. Many of the good reviews are from people, who only went for a one-off preliminary checkup or cleaning. The darker side awaits.

A painful lesson learned at Eram Dental Health Clinic

Switzerland is renowned for its advancements in medicine, offering some of the highest standards of healthcare globally. However, my experience with Eram Dental Health Clinic in Zurich starkly contrasts this prestigious reputation, turning my quest for dental health into a nightmare of complications and financial strain.
In July 2022, I approached the clinic with the hope of addressing long-standing dental issues. The staff proposed a comprehensive treatment plan, which, while expensive, seemed like a worthwhile investment for lasting oral health. The plan included treating inflammation, gum restoration, tooth extractions, implant placements, and the fitting of ceramic veneers, amounting to an astounding 200,000 francs—approximately 215,000 euros. I was led to believe that this investment would secure my dental health for the next decade or more.
Regrettably, the reality was far from what was promised. Just a year after the treatment, the ceramic veneers began to deteriorate, chipping and crumbling, which led to a persistent, agonizing toothache. Seeking a second opinion from dental professionals in Dubai, I was confronted with a shocking assessment: the implants and veneers installed by the Swiss clinic were poorly executed, leading to the development of periodontitis—an inflammation of the tissues around the teeth that posed a risk of spreading and resulting in severe health conditions such as sepsis, osteomyelitis, and sinusitis.
Faced with no alternative, I underwent urgent corrective treatment, which included the removal of the defective implants and ceramic pads, followed by the installation of new implants and veneers. This not only resulted in substantial physical and emotional distress but also incurred an additional cost of over 95,000 euros.
This ordeal has been a wake-up call regarding the importance of diligent research and seeking multiple professional opinions before undergoing significant medical treatments, especially in a foreign country. The negligence I experienced at Eram Dental Health Clinic not only jeopardized my dental and overall health but also imposed a significant financial burden due to their substandard care.
I share my story on Trustpilot to caution others about placing blind trust in healthcare providers, irrespective of the country's medical reputation. It's crucial to remember that behind the facade of advanced medicine and sophisticated treatment plans, the risk of negligence exists, and the consequences can be dire. My experience is a testament to the devastating impact of such negligence, serving as a reminder to prioritize one's health and well-being above all.
