SELLERS BEWARE!
Recently I had unethical experience at second-hand designer clothing shop The Exchange London, 72 Gloucester Road SW7, and warn sellers to avoid.
Having left a coat for sale, I was informed verbally I would receive 50% of the price obtained as stated on The Exchange website. Shortly after, I received an email stating the RRP was £720 and my commission £300, asking me to "confirm all is ok?" While £300 was nearer 40%, I assumed they may wish to offer a £60 discount, and therefore accepted.
Driving past a few days later, I noticed my coat was the main display in shop window. A friend went in the following day to enquire about the coat, to be told by the manager Nina that it was priced at £1,500.
On hearing this, I returned to the shop to ask Nina why it was being sold for £1.5K, double the price confirmed in writing? Nina blustered her way through the conversation, saying she had to offer a 50% discount as trading was difficult and all shops had sales, and the £750 RRP was a 50% discount on the selling price! No mention was made to my friend that she could buy the coat at a 50% discount, and there were no Sale signs in the shop, yet alone ones offering 50% off.
Dismayed that the staff were prepared to cheat a seller who had no means of confirming the sale price which had to be based on trust, I withdrew the coat before The Exchange pocketed £1,200, and gave me the agreed commission of £300.
