No longer the manufacturer of quality…

No longer the manufacturer of quality vacuum flasks we grew up trusting.
I naively thought that buying one of their stainless steel vacuum flasks would be one of those once-in-a-lifetime quality shopping experiences. I remember seeing a story as a child about a man who had avoided being trampled by a stampeding rhinoceros by hurling his thermos at its head. The rhino stopped dead in its tracks and the thermos survived intact. I was hoping I'd be able to pass on my Thermos to my kids with stories of great adventures, but after 4 years of careful handling, and definitely no rhino encounters, the vacuum failed on mine.
I tried to make a warranty claim (5 yr warranty) but this was rejected because although I'd noted the date of purchase and store, I'd misplaced the receipt. Thermos Australia offered some onerous and impractical solutions that would have cost me much more than buying a replacement, so ultimately wouldn't honour the warranty in any meaningful way.
My Thermos was a 1.2L King US Patent D572981 "Made in China". Enough said, right?! 🙄
