Disappointing Experience (Saturday
Disappointing Experience (Saturday, March 21st)
My friend and I walked for over an hour specifically to visit this shop after hearing great things about the coffee. We checked the opening times online (and on the door); despite the walk taking longer than expected due to a health condition, we arrived 10 minutes before the official closing time.
Unfortunately, the experience was a massive disappointment:
-Turned Away at the Door: The front door was wide open, and a staff member was sweeping the floor inside. As soon as she saw us approaching, she intercepted us before we could even step inside to tell us they were closed and to "come back tomorrow."
-Inconsistency: What made it more frustrating was seeing two people still sitting at a table inside, yet we were denied even a quick takeaway.
-Lack of Flexibility: We don't live in the area and hiked specifically to get here. We would have been more than happy with a quick takeaway coffee or even just a cold soft drink for our long walk back over the hills, but there was zero effort to accommodate us.
-Unwelcoming Vibe: Being told to "come back tomorrow" when you’ve clearly hiked a long way felt dismissive and unkind.
A Suggestion for Management:
If your staff begins the closing ritual (cleaning and turning away customers) significantly earlier than your advertised times, please update your hours on Google Maps and your front door. It is incredibly disheartening for visitors to travel a long distance only to be turned away while the lights are still on and others are inside.
The Silver Lining:
Thankfully, a lovely pub nearby called The Commercial saved the day! The staff and locals there were incredibly welcoming and happily served us drinks for our return journey.
Because we value a welcoming atmosphere as much as the coffee itself, we won’t be making the trip back to this shop again.
