Found some perfect sized oak offcuts already planed for a small project, very reasonably priced. I’ve bought a fair bit of timber from Timbersource over the years which has always been excellent quali... See more

The online cuttling list calculator was easy to use for prices but I called the office for advice and I'm so glad I did. Charlie was really helpful and I had my planed oak cut to size delivered 4 days later.

Poor service, no respect at all with clients.
No dates for deliveries, no communication, Nothing happen. It is unsuitable.

I found Timbersource incredibly frustrating to work with.
I ordered 3 shelves and Timbersource provided a full, long piece of wood. They said that this is standard practice for timber, and that I should have clicked the Cut to Size option. I thought that ordering 3 shelves was good enough, as this should have clearly been Cut to Size.
The reality is that the wood is nice, but I also ordered 3 distinct pieces, not one board, so I was delivered a huge piece of lumber which now needs to be cut additionally. I don't have a proper saw in my house, which is why I ordered 3 shelves.
I found them relatively courteous but completely unhelpful over email - and completely un-apologetic about their mistake. Their only compensation was to offer to cut this by courier at my cost, which I don't think is sufficient.
I had also asked about delivery date which they had said was on a date more than a week different from when it was delivered. While this wouldn't have been a problem with 3 shelves, the difference in timing with a huge long piece of lumber made a miserable experience for my apartment complex.
So, I mean, the wood is fine. But they are pretty bad with business.

Two orders, no issues.
I have ordered twice from Timbersource both with totally bespoke profiles of American Oak. In both cases the wood arrived well packed and very nicely finished. Would definitely recommend them.

Seeing the negative review I felt I should describe a different experience with Timbersource. I ordered an ash work surface for my bathroom cabinets. A huge expense on my modest budget but presumably a fairly small order for them. The time and trouble taken to advise me on a suitable choice couldn't be faulted. The timber was beautiful but the two small sections had been incorrectly cut. I notified the company immediately, and carefully matched replacement pieces were sent promptly with apologies, telling me to keep the originals as samples for finishing. OK, they made a mistake - it happens sometimes - but the way it was dealt with what could have been an immensely stressful situation couldn't be faulted.

Having finally acquired one and a half oak composite front doors - that we both liked - I needed a new oak frame to match, to hold a door and a fixed panel . Commercial options were very expensive, so building a frame was favourite.
As is often the way, space in the existing brick opening was tight, so to make it work I needed frame elements planed to five different sizes. Timbersource will plane to any size you want, so I ordered what I needed in American white oak from the website.
The timber arrived about ten days later, in the time quoted at ordering, well packed and protected.
The timber had been cleanly planed to exactly the sizes specified, and had a decent overlength left for cutting - sometimes well over what was ordered, so I had some useful offcuts left over.
The oak was straight grained and knot free, and was easy to work.
It wasn't cheap, but decent hardwood never is, and now the job is finished I'm really pleased with the effect.
If/when I need more hardwood - I know where to come!

In my experience this is not a company that operates professionally.
An order I placed for hardwood paneling resulted in me being short delivered on what I'd paid for (there was a 15% linear deficiency!) Not only that, but the profile missed a chamfer so differed from the one agreed (with sample provided!), the face planing was poor with obvious tear-out, there was serious sniping on 50% of the boards and quite a few cutter burn marks. The issues were eventually addressed in part, but not without delay and hassle. I was never apologized to, and was generally made to feel tolerated rather than valued as a customer. I was also left with a lot of unwanted and time consuming finishing work that I hadn't bargained for.
In a misguided fit of wanting to give them a second chance and support a local company I then ordered a batch of t&g beech flooring. Big mistake! Everyone knows that the tongue profile is asymmetric and should be machined nearer the underside of a floorboard, but not it seems their machinist. The whole batch was machined upside down. Not only that, but the stress relieving grooves were cut so close to the edges as to weaken the boards and leave them liable to potential premature splitting in future. Oh, and another thing - the written quote provided by the company specified premium selected knot and blemish free boards, which wasn't the case in reality.
It boggles the mind that a supposedly professional timber supply company can even exist that doesn't actually understand how to machine wood properly. It's just a joke.
I was definitely NOT laughing though when they presented me with an ADDITIONAL BILL for replacing the blemished boards with knot free ones as they had contracted to supply in the first place.
To add insult to injury, they had initially offered me a partial refund of £150 if I accepted the existing (and vastly inferior) upside down boards rather than asking them to start again and re-machine them correctly as ordered. I only reluctantly accepted based mostly on time constraints my end for the job. This refund has never appeared though, despite me politely asking for it in writing, on several occasions. Instead, they told me they would issue it as a credit note and now appear to have cancelled their bogus additional bill against the value of it. Utterly shameful, disingenuous and just plain deceitful behaviour!! They have since stone walled me and have failed to respond to further correspondence.
So to recap, I'm left with a sub-standard floor that I've paid full price for, been given false promises, been cheated out of money, involved in a huge and time wasting run-around and spent hours of extra labour on remedial finishing.
I really would have liked this to be a positive review for a great company, but unfortunately Timbersource themselves chose to treat me the way they did and now you get to read the warning as a result.
You're free to choose who you give your precious money to, but based on the shoddy way they treated me, and their shockingly poor, ignorant standards of machining, I'd steer well clear. Other companies exist that actually do have properly qualified machinists, do care about customer service and can be trusted to supply what you pay for.
Use them instead.
Have cut hardwood to order for me, Walnut and Oak - both perfectly cut, good quality wood and perfect for hardwood crafts and furniture building
