Unscrupulous and looking for follow on work

I was insured for Landlord gas boiler cover with PlusHeat and this included an annual service. They appointed Total Boilercare Ltd to conduct a service of the boiler and the appointment went very well. However, the resultant report was that the boiler was beyond economic repair and I received a quote for repairs totalling close to £700. The system was still operational so I was extremely suspicious after reading the report. I subsequently spoke to PlusHeat (the insurers) and expressed my concerns but was advised to install a new boiler. Following this disappointing discussion, I contacted a local Heating engineer to service the boiler and provided them the report from ’Total Boilercare Ltd.' It has been interesting to note that the only fault found with the boiler was a tube that had (in the opinion of the engineer) been pierced with a screwdriver and was allowing liquid to slowly escape. The part that needed replacement is a part that it is very unusual to have to replace as it does not normally fail and if it does not in the way this hose has failed.

In addition a filter which should have been part of the service had clearly not been inspected and cleaned. It has subsequently been done and the servicing completed in the correct manner as to the Manufacturers guidance.

I believe ’Total Boilercare Ltd.’ to be unscrupulous and essentially looking for follow on work post service.
