Utterly disappointing 😞
So I purchased a train gift card for my grandaughter who is struggling to pay for her train fares to college. I purchased on the Tuesday am for use that day...one week later we are still unable to use it. We cannot use ot now before 20 September. However they also do not allow you to use a Railcard discount but it does allow you to buy single ones..so a journey that is meant to cost 9.10 is now 22.00. In my view this is an absolute rip off I am so disappointed. CUSTOMER SERVICES were absolute rubbish with no empathy whatsoever. I do not and would not recommend this service oh no refunds either. If you are desperate enough to use this service I suggest you read the small print.

This voucher is useless. DON'T BUY.
This voucher is useless. I have had it since last Christmas and have taken many train journeys since then. Each time I have looked at the Traingift website to see if I can use it. It doesn't matter what day, what time or where I am travelling to and from, the price on their website is double the price direct from Trainline - meaning it is worthless. I don't suppose I will ever manage to use it. I feel very cheated.

Useless if there's a Railcard involved
I was given a Traingift voucher for a trip for my 70th birthday. £100, really nice. Except that it turns out I can't use it with my senior railcard. After a frustrating morning trying to book I eventually contact their customer help - which was quick - thank you. But it turns out you can't book round trips with a voucher and a railcard. The customer service person said "Currently, and due to a technical restriction of our booking supplier, we are unable to book a round-trip itinerary with the use of a Rail card.
We understand that this may affect your travel plans and we remain committed to assisting you. As a solution, your journey can be split into two one-way trips, allowing the application of your Rail card. Alternatively, you can complete a round-trip journey without using your card." Both of which are restrictive and cost more. Apparently this applies to all railcards - so possibly useless for students and service people as well. So before you gift one of these, check the possible use. I'd have preferred cash to be honest.

Can’t book return with railcard, bit more expensive than booking direct, when I could actually book it.
You can’t book a return journey with a Rail Card through this platform, as I found out after a lot of bother trying to book whilst repeated error messages flashed up which didn’t explain the issue.
The first few emails I received from customer support didn’t illuminate this issue, which is a bit of a flaw in the booking system as many people would want returns with railcards.
The folks emailing me back kept asking if I would buy single tickets instead, the prices of which would be more expensive even with the discount.
After I put up this review the lad who replied to this finally told me what the issue was, added £15 to my voucher and so I bought a single from London - Glasgow for two people which covered the cost of the journey exactly.
It was annoying and a fad but we got there - please sort out this issue and have customer support better trained. When I finally booked the single tickets instead it was very straightforward.
