Trip of a lifetime!
Trip of a lifetime!
Cannot recommend The Kenya Experience enough. An absolutely epic experience and truly magical to be immersed into the Kenyan way of life. Everyone at TKE and The High Altitude Training Centre were amazing - the trip was incredibly well organised and everyone was super friendly. I got to do and see things I never would have imagined and loved every minute!
It is a trip that will stick with me forever and I hope to return to Iten soon. Whenever I am feeling tired on a run I think to myself - if I could run up Fluorspar Hill, I can do anything!!

Kenya Experience - the most amazing experience!
I went to Iten with Kenya Experience in December 2017 and had the most amazing time of my life! I can't begin to describe what it was like to be in a place steeped in such rich running history. Kenya Experience were brilliant - everything was very well organised: from the pick up from the airport to the training sessions to the cultural exchanges. Kenya Experience staff were very friendly, receptive to individual needs and couldn't do enough for you in order to ensure that you had a great time. I am already planning my next visit with Kenya Experience!

An incredible trip like no other
The Kenyan Experience was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on – truly a trip of a lifetime. I couldn’t imagine a better running holiday.
The training camp itself has fantastic facilities and all the team from the Kenya Experience were helpful, friendly, informative and took great pride in making sure you had the best possible time there.
The trip has a great balance between training, learning about Kenyan running, having cultural excursions and relaxing. And it was all completely flexible on how much you wanted to participate in.
The holiday provided so many great memories that I will never forgot, as well as helping shift my mindset by seeing a refreshingly simple approach to life in Iten. There is a real magic there that is hard to put into words. If you are a runner at any level, or even someone who just wants to learn more about running and the lifestyle in Kenya, I couldn’t recommend the Kenya Experience more.

A truly memorable & impactful experience
If you are interested in running, then any level below professional/elite will benefit from this amazing experience. The whole atmosphere of being at the High Altitude Camp, surrounded by world-class athletes, plus the global running Mecca of Iten on your doorstep is a truly unique and unforgettable experience. The guys at Kenya Experience are amazingly supportive and informative, right from the pre-booking stage through to the camp experience. The coaches are great and the pacemakers brilliant. I have been running for 20 years, in all continents, but the KE is the greatest thing I have done. I wish I'd found it 15 years ago! Just do it, you wont regret it and it will probably change your perspective (for the better) on many things, not just running.

TKE is a unique thing
TKE is a unique thing.
I have read about it on social media and was very excited about it. I booked the two week camp and everything was managed very professional. Email communication before the camp was very easy and I was provided with all the important information about Kenya, the camp and everything else I needed to know.
What I really liked was that we had a training schedule but everyone could participate in the training sessions or do his/her own training. Also a good thing are the gym facilities and the possibility to book massages from professional therapists. It was an amazing experience to discover all the places in and around Iten while running and to feel that running spirit which dominates everything there. It is even more special and I can recommend reading the book "Running with the Kenyans" before attending the camp since one can find all the things described in that book there. The other group activities which were also part of the camp, like visiting local athletes, going on a safari, visiting St.Patrick's high school are a great thing and let's one keep a good balance during all the training sessions. The camp was very international with athletes from all over the world which made the two weeks very interesting and diverse.
All of the stuff in the camp there is very experienced, professional, kind and super helpful. They did everything they could to make everyone feel comfortable. They gave us advice, answered questions and explained us everything about the life, culture, training, nutrition of the Kenyan world class athletes!
I can definitely recommend TheKenyaExperience and I would love to go back! The peaceful and calm environment is good to clear ones mind, focus on running while having fun and disconnect from the often very busy world elsewhere.

An unforgettable experience...
The Kenya Experience camp gave me the opportunity to combine my love for running with a long standing desire to visit this part of the world. It's well named, because by the end of the two week camp I felt I'd had a richly immersive experience of the local milieu, including its beautiful landscape overlooking the Rift Valley and its gentle, welcoming people. This was as valuable as the many learnings to be had as a runner.
The entire thing was superbly managed, from the clear, informative and friendly responses by Gavin to my initial queries, to the sometimes complex logistics of the camp itself, catering to a diverse group of runners with varied abilities and goals and from all over the world. The team at Iten, including Willie and Enock, ensured that everything went smoothly and saw to all our needs without the least fuss. They also helped create an ambience of friendship and mutual support, so that within a very short time the group bonded extremely well with one another and with the KE team. They spoke to us about the cooperation and mutual support with which Kenyans come together in Iten to train, in the hope of achieving success and thereby bettering their lives, and I felt this spirit all through the events of the camp.
For a runner it is truly inspiring, and humbling, to be exposed to this culture. The sessions in which we met local athletes, some of them well known as Olympic and World Championship medallists (Abel Kirui, Sylvia Kibet - whose brother Collins was one of our coaches) were unforgettable, as were the opportunities to watch local and international runners sweating it out at the Tambach track or during the iconic Thursday fartlek sessions (with Wilson Kipsang leading one of them), or running easy on the roads and trails around Iten. At first no run really feels easy there, because of the altitude and the terrain, but in three or four days you feel the body acclimatizing and you find yourself running with a strength you didn't know you had.
The programme was designed for flexibility, keeping in mind the needs of different runners, and you were free to take part in as many of the sessions as you wished, or to combine some of them with your own training plan. But once there you didn't feel like skipping any of the sessions, because they were on picturesque trails, included plenty of variety and were challenging but doable. You also wanted to learn as much as you could in the short time you were there - two weeks passed really fast! The runs, form drills and core sessions were supplemented by interesting seminars on various aspects of running, mostly conducted by the head coach Hugo, as well as individual sessions for the participants with the coaches. These too were extremely useful.
As an amateur runner this was perhaps the closest I would get to experiencing the life of a professional athlete - with the day consisting of training, eating and plenty of rest! Having that kind of leisure in the beautiful surroundings of the comfortable High Altitude Training Centre (and Iten generally) was a privilege. It also allowed me the space to experience a little more of local life, including visits to schools, a church and homes of some of the pacing team, who fast became our friends. It felt a little odd at first to have such accomplished local runners (including marathoners whose PB was an hour or more quicker than mine!) running with and encouraging us all the way. They were not just doing a job - one felt their concern that we should get the most out of this experience.
This was time and money very well spent. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Running Trip of a Lifetime
An Incredible 2 weeks of running training with an awesome diverse group of runners around the globe! The coaches Hugo and Collins were knowledgeable, fun and so interesting to listen to and Willy was a very caring, friendly and organised Camp Manager who made sure everyone was getting the most out of this mind blowing trip... The running trails were scenic, adventurous and challenging which helped build our strength, endurance and mental toughness... the education seminars were very engaging, the international athletes we met and talked to were so polite, helpful and sensational! The trip far exceeded my expectations and I look forward to returning to Iten one day for sure... Very well organised by Gavin and The Kenya Experience 😊👏👍
