I was with travelteer for two weeks…

I was with travelteer for two weeks volunteering in Morocco. My experience was extraordinary and insightful, the scenery from the gite was like nothing I had seen before. Working in the fields and a schools allowed for a more wholesome atmosphere allowing me to be immersed into the culture of the Moroccan experience. However, the WiFi situation did cause some frustration as well as the limited bathrooms for the number of volunteers. Even so, I enjoyed my time with travelteer allowing me to gain some new friends and experiences

An Eye-Widening Experience

Volunteering is much more than just about yourself, as the created impact is far bigger than one can imagine. The Travelteer team has been nothing but helpful and supportive in my journey before and during my community development project in Nepal, allowing me to fully dive into and understand the livelihoods of the Nepali communities, and building friendships that last a lifetime.

Amazing time volunteering English Development Sri Lanka

I’ve had an amazing time volunteering in English Development in Sri Lanka. I stayed for 3 weeks which gave a good chance to get to know the students at the various schools/afternoon projects and bond with them. Dilanka, Chathu and Liv were lovely coordinators, helped us plan and were with us at all our projects. We helped teach a range of different ages, from preschool up to secondary schools. The children at the schools are all sweet and excited to see you whenever you visit. It made me especially happy to visit the underprivileged afterschool classes, as these are the children who need the most help learning English. They ran weekly Sinhala lessons which I found really helpful to pick up words and phrases to speak to students who were very young or didn’t know a lot of English.
Outside of volunteering, there are regular socials and optional trips for you to get to know other volunteers better and explore Sri Lanka (e.g. river safari, white water rafting, safari park visit). The local town is lovely and easy to get to, and there is a long break over lunch to go into town, chill and run errands. I’ve had an amazing time and would recommend volunteering with English Development, as I think it’s the most rewarding project to work on.

I had a brilliant 4 weeks out in Sri Lanka volunteering on the English programme. My coordinators Liv and Dilanka were absolutely brilliant in organising the classroom activities and taking us to and from each school. I will miss the children so much! I had a brilliant week on tour with Liv and my group. I came alone, but have made friends for life! Thank you Travelteer, Dilanka and especially Liv!

After completing a brilliant 4 weeks in…

After completing a brilliant 4 weeks in Nepal with Travelteer I can confidently say that this has been one of if not the most enriching experience of my life. A fun, challenging, engaging and incredibly important programme. Extremely well organised and managed by Sean and Ming who are always there with the biggest smiles to answer any questions however big and small. A special mention to Naresh who helped make this experience so memorable, he holds such a friendly and warm personality that rubs off on all and is incredibly informative and helpful to all volunteers. The program is unbelievably beneficial to local communities and schools and is the perfect blend of school work, agriculture and local development work. The weekends allow for free time to explore the beauty of Nepal with your fellow volunteers, in a friendly and warm environment that Sean works so tirelessly to create. Could not recommend this experience enough!

A life changing experience.

A life changing experience.

I did my full placement year with Travelteer from September 25 to September 26. This meant I spent 3 months doing research preparation from home, 6 months in Sri Lanka on the Mental Health programme, collecting data and then I am currently finishing my 3 months back at home, completely my research report.

During my time in Sri Lanka, I took part in various projects that included working with different vulnerable groups, learning about natural medicine, observing in hospitals and more. This meant that over the 6 months that I was there, I was able to get a detailed insight on perspectives and treatments for mental health in this country.

The staff were one of my highlights from my experience. Every single one of the staff in Sri Lanka were incredible people who wouldn’t think twice to help you if you needed it or be an ear if you needed someone to listen to you. They are the kindest and funniest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. One of the staff members who was crucial for my experience was the country manager, Ruchi. He was supportive for any issue people may have experienced, whether that was personal or through peoples worries about the experience. He would always make light of anything, and could make you laugh if you were having the worst day. One of the main things I valued from him is that he listened to any feedback I had about the projects that I was on. He would want to listen to every idea you have because he was always looking to improve and I think that is admirable.
Due to me being there for such a long period of time (which in hindsight doesn’t feel long at all), there was a lot of opportunities to improve the projects I was working on. This means at the end of the weeks when we would have a group debrief about projects and how people were getting on, you would be able to give any feedback you wanted without fear of your ideas being ignored. It was very fulfilling to watch the change that you directly make.

Over the time I was in Sri Lanka, I was able to experience most of the projects offered and every single one of them are amazing. You are always an active member of the team and your work is always appreciated and impactful.

I couldn’t recommend it enough. The people you meet are incredible. The environment, community and country is beautiful and the programmes are insightful.

I’d do it every year if I could.

Nepal

Overall, I had an amazing trip and a genuinely positive experience, even though it turned out to be quite different from what I expected going into it. The activities and overall experience weren’t exactly what I had imagined, but they were enjoyable, memorable, and worthwhile. As a social work student, the experience has definitely changed my perspective on some things in life and gave me a greater appreciation for different people, circumstances, and ways of living.
A special mention goes to Sean, the coordinator, who was always positive, approachable, and genuinely tried his very best to accommodate everyone and ensure people had a good experience. Ming was also friendly, helpful, and supportive throughout, as was Naresh, who was always willing to assist when needed.
On the way back after volunteering, there was a minor issue. I hadn’t realised that I would need to arrange my own taxi from the bus stop to the B&B. When I arrived, several taxi drivers approached me, and I felt that they were trying to overcharge me, which made the situation a little stressful after travelling. However, this was only a small inconvenience and did not take away from the overall experience.
I’m really glad I took part and would like to thank the team for all their hard work in making it such a memorable experience.

What an experience!

My experience volunteering in Nepal was everything I hoped for and so much more. From the moment I arrived until the day I left, the staff and coordinators went above and beyond to ensure that both I and the rest of the group were supported and able to get wherever we needed to be.

The experience itself involved a wide variety of meaningful activities, including teaching, building greenhouses, constructing walls for local schools, and organising games and activities for the children. Every project was well planned, while still allowing us the freedom to bring our own ideas and approaches, which made the work both rewarding and enjoyable.

The coordination team in Nepal Sean, Ming, and Naresh, worked tirelessly to ensure that every volunteer got the most out of the experience. They made me feel incredibly welcome and supported from the moment I arrived. I would especially like to thank Naresh for his dedication in coordinating the school wall construction project and for always taking the time to help organise any activities we as volunteers wanted to undertake.

I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who is considering volunteering but may still be unsure. I truly feel that I made a positive difference, learned valuable lessons, and made friendships that will last a lifetime. It was an unforgettable experience, and one I will always be grateful for.

An Authentic Nepal Experience

I thoroughly enjoyed my volunteering trip to Nepal. My main goal was to connect with local people, and Travelteer made that possible by going beyond the major cities and supporting communities in remote mountain villages.

While the experience is not always entirely stress-free (stomach issues can happen!), it is incredibly rewarding. The programme offers a great balance of construction work and teaching, alongside meaningful interactions with local residents. There is also plenty of free time to enjoy the activities available around the accommodation. And sometimes, a gorkha is exactly what you need for a little extra boost!

A special thank you to Shiva for her warm welcome, and above all to Ming, Naresh, and Sean for their invaluable support, kindness, and dedication throughout the trip.

At times, I felt that the daily schedule could have been communicated a little more clearly, but this is only a minor point and does not take away from what was otherwise a truly enriching and rejuvenating experience.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone who is still considering it ; you won’t regret it.

Amazing experience

Merci!
