Although I chose a specific location to review, I didn't have to go to a brick-and-mortar site. Everything was done electronically in applying for and obtaining a China tourist visa so it was convenient. However, a physical site is available for documentation drop-off and passport pick-up within a reasonable distance in case it's needed.
