Exceptional choice of yarn and customer service.

Well, what can I say about Tribe Yarns. Whilst they do have a physical store, most of their sales are online. It can be tricky buying yarn online; however, Tribe Yarns has your back, as they only stock good quality yarns that the owner Milli would knit with.  Obviously, it can often still feel hit and miss as to the softness of the yarn, no need to worry, Tribe Yarns has your back.
Every Monday they do an hour's live packing on Instagram, showing you the yarns and explaining the fibre content, weight and softness of the orders they are packing and you get to ask questions which are either answered on the chat or when you ask in the post afterwards. They regularly   go through new pattern books with recommendations for the yarns you can use that they stock, often live and this is then added to their website. Milli can often be found showing us a new project she's working on, often in colours or yarns one would not think of using and always adding her own little details.  You can also book a personalised virtual shopping experience, where the team will help you choose the colours and yarns .  For a mainly online retailer, I have to say the team (mainly Milli) go above and beyond,  you are constantly inspired. I have been lucky enough to participate in one of their KALS which provide, so much support , inspiration and value. The zooms are all recorded so you can go back to them and the tuition if pretty much free as the cost of the KAL is for the yarn and pattern. I cannot recommend this yarn store enough, as long as you want quality yarns. The choice of yarns and customer service is exceptional.

Bullying behaviour

Basically I ordered next day delivery at a cost of £11.50 and it didn’t arrive until a few days later. I expected a full refund of postage and after contacting Milli whoever she is I was told I wouldn’t be getting any refund. I was sent an email calling me a VERY derogatory word and also said I was a liar!!
On her website she says her company will not and do not tolerate bullying of any kind.Practise what you preach. Am certainly taking things further.

Highly recommended

I ordered LICHEN AND LACE RUSTIC HEATHER SPORT in Evergreen colour. My parcel was dispatched few minutes after I ordered. The wool is absolutely gorgeous! The colour very true to the photo! I will definitely be buying more in future and highly recommend this company. Hoping to visit the shop at some time too. Thank you, Tribe Yarns.x

Great experience

( My order is #69344. )
I ordered on March 26, 2023. The order was packed the next (business) day and shipped immediately (via Royal Mail) to Greece.
It was in my hands within 15 days (it's a reasonable time, if you include the weekends).
The package was perfect. Very well packed, safely and ecologically conscious.
I ordered 4 threads and 1 pair of chiaogoo circular needles. Great yarns, luxurious. I was not able to buy them either in Greece or from any other EU store.
Clearly, I will again prefer this store in my next purchase. We support small businesses ❤

Don’t try to telephone them we have…

Don’t try to telephone them we have called 6 times today… got though once to be told to call again in an hour someone would help us. Called an hour later to be told they were busy with a customer call in ten minutes then they don’t answer the phone. It’s now 8 calls today with two answered. To be fair they answered an email but we didn’t understand the reply so we’re seeking clarification. Frustratingly poor way to deal with people.

Here's the reply I sent to you. On top of this, it seems you were calling (on a Saturday, during shop open hours!) to get clarification on a knitting pattern that isn't even one of ours. The conversation would have been lengthy and we couldn't have helped you with that during open hours.

I am SHOCKED that you decided to leave this negative review despite my replying to your email to help you with your pattern. FRUSTRATINGLY POOR way to conduct yourselves and to go out of your way to damage my small business.

You think you are more important than actual customers standing in front of us? Imagine if you were one of them, and we left you stranded because the phone rang. Ridiculous.

"Hi Alan & Cristina

Thank you for your email. I’m so sorry you weren’t able to get though by phone today.

The shop is always very busy on a Saturday and my staff are under strict instructions to not answer the phone if they have customers they are serving in the shop.

I, personally, find it incredibly rude when someone answers their phone when I am talking to them, so I put this standard in place at the shop.

The only time they should answer is to let the ringer know that the shop is busy and ask them to call back, and that’s only if the phone is ringing so much that it is distracting service in store.

So, I’m afraid I take full responsibility for this.

Again, I’m so sorry to disappoint you.

Hi to Cristina!

Milli"

Brilliant yarn store.

What an amazing yarn store. Although not my 'local, as I am in Australia; I have purchased heaps of the most gorgeous yarn from Tribe Yarns.

My questions regarding my yarn choices have always been answered promptly, with the ability to have a virtual yarn selection appointment to help me out; with it always dispatched promptly.

Milli has a keen appreciation for colour and design; and her expertise in yarn, patterns, fashion and the art of knitting, has in my opinion really made such a huge difference in the lives of thousands, through her guidance, advice, and by being the catalyst for developing our creative process.

Milli is a shining light and is such a breath of fresh air with her boundless creativity and wicked sense of humour. Milli's generosity of Spirit extends to creating a wonderful knitting community through classes, KAL's, events; and I am so very grateful to have the opportunity to catch up with the gals on fortnightly Virtual knit nights (early mornings for me!).

I highly recommend either online purchasing, or dropping by for a noodle around the most wonderful yarn store.

Customer service

I spent £68 on two skeins of contrasting colours of a premium hand-dyed wool to knit a reversible beanie hat. The proprietor assisted me in my choice of colours. The only instructions about the wool were on the care labels of the wool.
I completed the hat, washed it in cold water to smooth the stitching (the care label allowed hand wash in anything up to warm water). One colour bled into the water, stained the lighter colour and spoiled the hat.
I contacted the proprietor, explained the problem and asked for a refund. She refused, saying it was one of their best products which very rarely bled. She also said it was ‘always advisable with hand-dyed wool, to swatch and block the yarn for bleeding or in some cases pre wash it’. I asked why she hadn’t told me this when I bought it and she said it would take too long to go through all that advice with every sale but that they would give the info readily if asked. That presupposes that the customer has the knowledge to ask, which I did not. They, after all, are the experts. It didn’t occur to me that colour-fastness in a premium product, with no care instructions to the contrary, was anything other than a given.
She said I wouldn’t expect a sales assistant to advise on dye bleeding from washing a new pair of jeans. I disagreed, saying if a retailer and the care instructions label of a premium product (as my wool was) made no mention of colours running, then a customer following the care instructions would be justified in seeking redress if that happened.
In the end she did not offer any compensation for the loss of time and money I spent on the wool, instead saying there was nothing at all at fault with the yarn.
In my view there was something wrong with the service I received. The shop should, at least, have taken the trouble to give the information on checking colour-fastness, even in the form of a leaflet with the sale, which would take no effort on their part and avoid the disappointment and wasted money and time of future customers like myself.

I explained to this customer that very occasionally super-saturated colours of hand dyed yarns bleed. There is nothing we can do about that. This is the nature of dyes.
I put a lot of effort into explaining this to this woman who has chosen to write this unfair review.
She clearly doesn’t care that her requested action and her review will help ensure there are no small yarn shops left in the world for customers like herself.

We can’t provide leaflets for everything. That would be a massive waste of paper. If we had a leaflet on why colours might bleed, or why there might be a knot in a skein, or why some yarns pill, or how to wind a skein, or why interchangeable needles might come apart, or all the other reasons that people like you demand refunds, we would be a print shop not a yarn shop.

The care label says how to wash, and yet even hand-dyed clothes sometimes bleed colour and that specific info isn’t on their labels, and they don’t push out leaflets at the Levi’s jeans shop on this, nor do they warn you how not to get knickers stuck in zippers.

Well done, Jenny.

My favourite yarn store

I found Tribe Yarns a few years ago through a friend, but over COVID-19 I learnt to knit and with that developed a yarn obsession! In the last year I cannot count the number of orders I have placed, every time the service has been quick, the yarn beautifully packed with no plastic in sight. But the best bit about Tribe Yarns is the people, Milli is always around to help with colour / fibre choices (and she is always spot on, even when you are not sure). Throughout the year Milli has been running a virtual knit night once a fortnight, I clear my diary to be there and it's a wonderful community, I get encouragement and inspiration from the knitters there and look forward to it every time. If you can get to Richmond and need yarn then try Tribe Yarns.
