Great tool, I use it as much as possible
I use tripadvisor when I'm abroad, or even when visiting cities in my country. The opinion of others travellers helps me to decide what to visit or to go to which restaurant.
It has become a tool I couldn't go without anymore.

How to choose a hotel: tripadvisor.
The only way to choose a hotel based on real facts and not advertising is tripadvisor. Of course there are some over- and underrated responses based on emotions by travellers, but following the majority of responses is always correct.
